1820 farm house that has been kept very original. The wide board floors and all original hardware and hinges is a joy to see. The owner has tastefully furnished the inside with beautiful antiques. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time when things were soooo much less hectic. Grab a cool drink and head out to that gorgeous pool. Bring a good book and prepare to lose yourself in thoughts for awhile. If you do feel like a good walk there is around 100 acres here to explore. Take a walk back to the big pond or across the street to the creek. This old farm house has been in the same family it's whole life and the property itself goes back even further in the same family. Step inside and think back to grandmas house as a kid. The kitchen is ready for the big family meal. The open spaces allow for many comfortable spots to sit and talk, read or sneak a quick snooze! The three season porch on one end is so sweet. All of the bedrooms are very spacious and the beds oh so comfortable. I'll think you'll find that a stay at this old farm house will rejuvenate your soul. We're available all four seasons and located close to plenty of things to do. Mohonk Park is very near as is Minnewaska State Park. Between the two you could never run out of places to explore. There are endless carriage trails to walk or ride and vistas to explore with views to drool for. This old farm house will be a welcome site at the end of a busy day. We're very near the Shawangunk Ridge and all the world class rock climbing it offers. We're also in the heart of some simply gorgeous farm land and wine is huge here. Spend some time exploring the many wine trails nearby. The village of New Paltz is nearby and has several big grocery stores. The tiny village of Gardiner is very near and quite quaint. Any desire to parachute? Place close by that you can do so. I assure you that it'll be hard to leave this area and return to the daily routine. Good thing is that you can always come back!
This farm house and property has been in the same family since day one. The surrounding 100 acres or so date back in the family to the 1700's. With any luck it'll always stay just like it is here.
Lauren Rooney purchased this farmhouse in 1820
We've taken care of it forever it seems and always will. Our home next door is even older. We've maintained it all very well over the years. It's an honor to do so.
Incredible escape from the crazy hectic lives we lead. I have even another special treat for you. We run a very nice day spa right across the street. Prepare to be very pampered when you stop over there. Google the place one time. Jenkinstown Day Spa.
My group of 6 had a great time staying in the farmhouse. Everything was as described and Dean was super helpful and accommodating throughout the stay. The effort to make us feel welcome was wonderful. We appreciated the history of the property and the house was comfortable. The location was perfect for exploring New Paltz downtown and local attractions as well as doing some hiking in Mohonk. The group definitely took advantage of the pool and the grill, which were much appreciated. A very enjoyable weekend stay.
My family of three decided we needed a getaway from the city. We stayed at this lovely 200 year old home for five weeks. We knew it was an old place, but the bathrooms were renovated and the showers powerful. We had a wonderful barbecue and a beautiful pool with gorgeous grounds. It was a piece of heaven. We were all sad to leave. We were absolutely floored by the hospitality and the attention given to our needs. It was one of the best summers we ever had.
We really loved our stay this weekend at this home. It is like stepping back into time a little and staying at your Grandparent's home in the country. We learned a lot about the history of New Paltz, Mohonk, the Dubois and Jenkins families. The furnishings are old-fashioned but in keeping with the historical 1820 home and theme. The home is very roomy with a lovely sun room, separate tv-room, nice-sized central dining room. Everything was super clean and comfy. We all felt right at home as soon as we walked in. The beds were all great. The owners couldn't have been nicer. We didn't use the pool (too cold as it was only first week of May) but we would go back in a heartbeat for some hiking in Mohonk and followed by a swim in the pool. 10 minutes from downtown New Paltz, 10 minutes from trails to Mohonk Mountain. The spa across the road is a special treat and was very welcomed after some long miles in the woods.
We stayed at the property when our son graduated from West Point. It was a 45 minute trip to the Academy, but not difficult to negotiate and we so looked forward to this tranquil setting as a welcome change from the hectic schedule of Grad Week. This IS an 1820 farmhouse, so go there with that expectation.
The owners lived right next door but they were not intrusive; rather, we found them to be extremely accommodating to our needs and enjoyed talking to them about the history of the house and surrounding area. They were also helpful with information about restaurants and local grocery shopping.
It was too cool during our stay to enjoy the pool, but it looked very inviting and was a nice area to sit and enjoy the sun. The bedrooms comfortably slept 7 people and an air mattress was provided for another person.
All-in-all, a very enjoyable stay!
Overall, we had a pleasant stay in this vintage home in the Hudson Valley in Gardiner, outside of New Paltz. The location was convenient to several places of interest, including the FDR Library, Museum, and home (30 minutes), Minnewaska State Park Preserve (15 minutes -- beautiful lake and hiking trails!), Rhinebeck (45 minutes) and Hudson (50 minutes -- art and antiques), and the Walk over the Hudson (15 minutes -- highly recommended walk over the river via a Rails-to-Trails bridge). Restaurants and groceries are 10-15 minutes away.
Pros: Good location; quiet residential neighborhood with lots of trees; owners live next door and are quite responsive to any needs; bedrooms and bathrooms are well-appointed and comfortable; generously-sized swimming pool with slide, towels, and poolside furniture (we enjoyed swimming and eating outside) are a bonus; house contains some interesting antiques. Owners and rental agent were very helpful in advising about sights nearby and places to eat and shop. New Paltz is a lively, college town.
Cons: The house was clean, but had a faint musty smell upon arrival, as house had been closed up prior to our arrival (we were told that we were the first renters). The smell decreased greatly (but did not entirely disappear in every room) after the first day of our 3-night stay as air conditioning kicked in. Owners were responsive in trying to address this problem. Because this is an older home, furniture is somewhat dated. Pond was not accessible because a path had not yet been mowed.
There are few places in NYS as pretty as Gardiner, NY. The famous Shawangunk ridge runs through here and folks come from all over the world to climb it's sheer face. We have world class parks here like Minnewaska and the old favorite called Mohonk. Between the two there are so many thousands of protected acres full of trails to hike, bike or cross country ski. The views from the peaks are to drool for. You're in the heart of the wine country here and the wine trails will amaze you. Every where you look will be farm land and protected land. This property dates back to the 1700's and is still in the same family!!
