I moved to Lake Placid in 2005 to take a job as the physical education teacher at Lake Placid Elementary School. I love living in the adirondacks, and it brings great joy to share this communtiy with visitors. I am an avid cyclist, skier, and paddler. It is likely that you will not see me during your stay. Currently I am spending the year across Lake Champlain in VT finishing a degree in School Administration. A dear friend named Sara is taking care of the apartment while I am away.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007
I chose to rennovate the 1st floor of my home in 2010 in order to provide visitors of this community with an affordable convernient place for them to stay.
The apartment at 278 Old Military offers visitors a quiet setting, and the convenience of being only a short bike or car ride from all that lake placid has to offer.
My girlfriend and I had an excellent stay. We wanted to get away for a weekend in Lake Placid and this turned out to be a great solution to our accommodation needs. The unit is in nice shape and cozy, with an outstanding wood fireplace. The owner is flexible with pets and was gracious enough to let us bring along the dog. If you are a gourmet, you may find the kitchen lacking, but it's great for making basic meals. Our only complaint, as noted in another review, was the bedroom mattress. It is not a comfortable one. We ended up using the hide-a-bed unit, built into the living room sectional, on our second night. That was actually comfortable, and it's nearby the fireplace which was handy, having two very cold nights! Location is Adirondack-scenic with spectacular outdoor views a stone's throw away. Five minute drive into the heart of Lake Placid and close to everything you'd want to see in the High Peaks region. Overall we had an excellent stay and I would recommend this place to anybody looking for convenient, affordable lodging in Lake Placid.
The location of this place is perfect. The price is good. Unfortunately, this was not very clean. The people that live upstairs walk loudly. Simple details that made our stay from super to correct.
This apartment was awesome ! It was clean , cozy, had a fire place and pit , the sheets were soft and the location was excellent.
Let me start by saying this was our first visit to Lake Placid. It is such a beautiful and calm place! We really loved it! The location of this apartment was perfect for us and it was very clean. It was close to downtown and nature trails. We did not walk to downtown, but the drive was quick and there were many municipal lots to park as well as on-street parking. It was also very quiet and relaxing.
It was extremely important that we find a place to stay that would accommodate our dog. I reached out to the owner and he agreed that we could bring her. That was a huge plus and much appreciated.
The yard and fire pit were large. Plenty of space for our dog to enjoy and we really loved building a fire and making s'mores. But, there weren't any chairs for us to use out there so we took the bench from the kitchen table.
It did stink that the fridge was mini and there was no dishwasher, but we knew this before booking based off other reviews and made it work. I do wish there had been a grill, but we inquired about this before our stay and were told there was not one, so we were aware.
We didn't use the wood stove, but we did turn the heat on and it worked well.
The bathroom was large and updated and clean. There were towels and other basic items you may need.
The only downfall of this apartment was the bed. It was so uncomfortable! We actually ended up packing up a night early just so we could get home and sleep in our own bed.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay. The apartment was in a great location and very clean, but I don't think I would stay here again because the bed was so uncomfortable.
Ideally situated near Mirror Lake (5 minutes drive) in a relaxing, peaceful location. The accommodation has just about everything you might need. The heating worked very well, and when weather was hot (most of the time), the place was cool enough without the need for air conditioning. The only minus point is that sun doesn't seem to get to the windows, making the place a bit dark. Overall, really good value place for just about anyone to stay.
This is a great, clean, welcoming place to stay. It's close to town and many things to do. We loved the fire out in the back. This apartment made a wonderful home away from home.
