The 1 Bedroom /1 Bath Cottage provides the privacy needed for a peaceful vacation. The Cottage at Palmirage is the perfect place to take things easy and unwind.
Palmirage has two inviting, relaxing vacation homes that will make you feel welcome. Uniquely designed accommodations nestled in lush gardens and just off a 2 1/2 mile long nearly deserted beach. Our other property has it's own driveway and privacy. The 2 Bedroom/1 Bath Boathouse is on the second floor above the Garage/Boathouse. Sweeping views of the Exuma Sound and fresh breezes make this a great vacation spot to share with friends.
Both units include all amenities. Towels and Linens, Beach Gear, Grill, Screened Porch, Sun Deck, Gourmet Cooking tools for the Full Kitchen (complete with ice-maker!), Shared use of Kayaks and Bicycles. Maps and Guides to local spots.
Curl up in the Hammock with a cold drink and a book. Take your fishing pole out to the bight and catch your dinner, then bring it back to the fish cleaning station and BBQ an evening of fresh seafood. Or ask us to get some fresh fish for you and have it prepared while you just relax. Kayak out to the nearby Cays for a morning of snorkeling. Or just pull up a beach chair and enjoy the water.
Long Island is one of the most unique islands in the Bahamas. For many people, it is considered the hidden Bahamas. On the northern tip there are dramatic sea cliffs overlooking the dark blue water where Columbus anchored the Santa Maria when he discovered the island in 1492. The beaches are incredible. Talcum-powder fine white sand and crushed pink and brown shell cover some of the most stunning beaches in the Bahamas. The water is clear, warm, and turquoise blue. From hillside perches, where cool trade winds blow, you can look down to stretches of spectacular coast and water so pristine you can see multiple shades of blue in the depths of the ocean. Yet this island has much more to offer than its natural beauty; it is safe, easily accessible by air, close to the United States, and home to friendly English-speaking locals.
If you have any special requests please let us know. If you need some groceries, beer, liquor or soda we'd be happy to pick that up for you so it will be ready upon arrival...nothing like a nice cold drink after a day of travelling.
Same thing with arrangements for Rental Cars, Fishing guides, restaurants..whatever !!! We are here to take the mystery out of Long Island so you can have a stress-free stay and pack in as much fun as possible while you are here.
Veggie Garden is going strong! Help yourself to whatever is ripe today!! Zucchini, Tomatoes, Peppers, Lettuce, Radishes and Cucumbers are plentiful!! Kale, Broccoli Rab, Carrots, Tomatillos and Eggplant soon to come!
Don't miss the opportunity to explore Long Island, which is the most attractive of all the Bahamas out islands, with quaint settlements dotted between gentle rolling hills. Here nature is still unspoiled. Historical sites remind us of the interesting past and where people are amongst the friendliest in the Bahamas. This is the perfect spot for a Bahamas vacation of a lifetime!

Dan & Sara fell in love with Long Island 10 years ago when they were travelling the Bahamas on their sailboat.
They started building their house in 2003 and built the entire place themselves. In 2008 they built The Cottage, so they could share the island with you, and in 2015 decided to add a Boathouse/Garage to the property...And now they have the 2 Bedroom apartment with wonder views of the water.
They spend the winters in the Bahamas and the summers in the States traveling along with their adopted Bahamian Potcake Dog- Bambi.
Sara Werra purchased this cottage in 2006

My husband and I stayed at the Cottage the first week of November. Everything we could have possibly needed for a week on Long Island was either available at the Cottage, or by asking our hosts. The Island may not be for travelers who expect loads of amenities, as there are no fast food chains, or multinational corporations (Walmart, etc) here. But if you want a vacation where you can get away from almost everything (there is wifi, and satellite tv) - this is the place. The Cottage really is as cute as the pictures. The full size kitchen meant that we could cook breakfast and when we wanted to, dinner. Sara, the owner of the place took us to the nearby grocery stores, and liquor stores, so we knew where they were. Then we had a rental car to go exploring. We used the Wera's Kayaks in the beautiful little bay (about a 5 minute walk down a level road), we used their snorkle gear which was in good shape to go snorkling and to Dean's Blue Hole. There was a cooler - so we were able to pack a lunch and snacks to take with us each day. There was a washer and dryer in the cottage - which was nice, but we only used the dryer to dry our swim stuff and towels. The sheets were nicer than many hotels I have been to, and the place was spotless. Very helpful were the maps and guides to the island that Sara provided us. There was information on the history of the island, including the abandoned plantations. With all the information about the Island and what to see, we were able to plan our days easily. And while this is a review of the Cottage, I would share that the roads on Long Island are not very good. Especially when you get off the Queens Highway and try to go to the beaches. Just fyi. Make sure you have a good vehicle with good tires.
I can't tell you more than the other reviewers as to why this is so great. I can tell you that I have been coming to the Bahamas in February for seven years, and this is the first time I've rebooked, even though all the previous places were fantastic.
This one level cottage - built by owners and hosts Sara and Dan - features a basic floor plan with decent sized rooms nestled within the island vegetation. It is well equipped with all the needs you'll require to enjoy the quiet location and near-by island beach just a pleasant 500 yard walk from your door. The front porch - like all other open areas - is well screened and the evening cool and light breezes were super. The ceiling fans in the main rooms provided all the comfort we needed. We loved all of it!
Palmirage Cottage is convenient to Long Island's central artery - the Queen's Highway - and a rental car is essential to maximizing your travels. Best of all, Sara and Dan know the lodging business well and were always helpful with local knowledge and assisting with special needs. Subjects like veggie gardening, building, and boating drew enthusiastic responses. Much to enjoy here!
I had all i needed for my stay, would recommend it to anyone visiting the island.
Anyone looking to rent a place on Long Island in the Bahamas would be lucky to find this winner! Not only is it a perfect place to relax, put up your feet with a mere 5 minute walk to the beach, but it comes with owners who are attentive to your needs, but ensuring you your privacy. Let's talk about that beach. Almost all the time we were there ( a month) we were the only people on the beach. Shades of blue anchored by up to your ankles sand. The perfect beach is your very "own" beach. The cottage has everything you'd need and it is clean and well maintained. Kayaks? got it, barbecue? got it, screened porch? got it, hammock? got it....you get it?
The owners, Sara and Dan are very involved in the community and will steer you in the right direction for whatever floats your boat. Happy hour at Club Washington on Wed. night, Rake and Scrape at The Green Leaf on Friday night or just where to find the best beaches on the Atlantic side.
You won't go wrong here. "All is good"
The cottage was even better than described. It was very comfortable, well outfitted and in a nice spot. The things we really appreciated - the kitchen was well equipped with nice pots and pans to cook on, a nice gas stove, and a pantry with some essential items so we didnt have to supply everything from scratch. The internet worked great and that was nice so we could stay in touch and watch netflix. Sara and Dan are very nice and accommodating, ready with suggestions and other help. They planted our own little spice garden right outside the door and gave us veggies from their garden. Our daughter stayed a few days and the pull out sofa was fine for her. The location was mid island and not far from the main store, walking distance from a lovely beach. They offered us the use of their sea kayak. The island is very relaxing, nice people and great beaches. Highly recommend.
Sara's cottage is incredibly beautiful and spacious. The cottage is equipped with practically everything that a visitor would need in Long Island, including drinking water, bath needs, kayaks, snorkeling gear and a comfortable bed. The cottage is nestled in a quiet area, with close proximity to the beach. Sara was also extremely friendly and helpful with plenty of advice to give about the island. We truly had an amazing experience. Highly, highly recommended and will definitely stay with Sara whenever I'm in Long Island again.
