About the property

The Z's Retreat is your 'home away from home' near Yosemite in Historic Mariposa

The Z's Retreat is our chance to share our wonderful historic town of Mariposa and our majestic 'backyard' which is Yosemite National Park. We were fortunate enough to find a house in town and began our project. We are very excited about sharing our quaint historic town with travelers! And of course our beautiful 'backyard'! Our home is fully furnished with a Queen bed in each bedroom. The bathroom features a tub/shower combo and a pedestal sink. The living room has comfy couches and a electric fireplace to give it that cozy feeling. The kitchen is complete with a stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, toaster, pots/pans, dishes/utensils, some spices and paper products. We provide a stack washer/dryer. There is a covered carport and ample parking. The backyard is fenced and we are animal friendly...as long as your animal is friendly! The best part is a huge back deck to BBQ & picnic on in the evenings or enjoy your morning coffee on! The neighborhood is very quiet, so this is not the place for loud! It is the perfect place to come 'home' to after a day in Yosemite. But, please take the time to enjoy our town! The Visitors Center is is located at 5158 Hwy. 140. You can go to the website for info on local events as well as planning a trip to Yosemite.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from within walking distance of the house. The courthouse is just a few blocks away as is the Museum, Post Office, and the Yarts bus stop to take you to Yosemite. Pioneer Market is also close by and you can find almost anything there!

About Cindy and John Zurilgen

We grew up in the central valley in the small farming community of Chowchilla, Ca. We were married in Aug. of 1982 and started our family in 1987. We now have 3 wonderful adult children. We decided to relocate to the mountains in 1999. We found Mariposa by chance and fell in love with the area and decided to raise our kids here. Two of our kids are off on their own adventures after graduating college and we have added two other wonderful people to our family. Our third child is attending college and is in her 2nd year. We are very excited to provide a place for families to visit our wonderful historic little town as well as the vast beauty that is Yosemite National Park. Our photo is a rare shot on Christmas Day at Glacier Point when there was no snow! Dec.25, 2011. Our son Alec with Rebekah, Our daughter Ashlynn, Our daughter Aubriana with her husband James, and us, Cindy & John.

Why Cindy and John Zurilgen chose Yosemite Area

To own a house in town was a rare opportunity to make our dreams of having a vacation rental come true. This house is located in the heart of Historic Mariposa with all its history and culture. A quiet neighborhood is a perfect retreat after being in Yosemite all day. Walk around town or just relax and enjoy the large deck in the back...your choice. Or spend a day exploring right here in Mariposa!

What makes this house unique

Close to Yosemite! Quiet, secluded, nice views over rooftops, older charm, which makes it feel comfy. Makes you go back in time just a little. Very close to many historic places. Check with our visitors center for all the local happenings. Lots of summer music at the Art Park, yearly events such as Butterfly Days, Mariposa County Fair, Carter Ranch Music Festival, Summer Fest (Suds and Sausage), Tomato Fest, Farm tour and Christmas home tour....too many to mention!

Guestbook comments from the owner

John & Cindy:

Just wanted to say Thank You for allowing me and my family to stay in your rental during our special time. Its such a beautiful place, so peaceful and serene. Morning coffee on the deck was wonderful. The view of the mountains from the deck is amazing. The kids loved playing games and sitting out at the table under the stars just talking and enjoying the peacefulness of the evening time. Its such a nice place and so full of character. We had such a great time. Actually, didn't want to leave. You are so kind and generous. I'm sure that all the families to follow will say the same thing. How could they not? Once again, thank you for sharing with us and all that you have done. This time will always hold a very special place in our hearts as well as you.

Love,

All of the Doyle Family

Cozy & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This property is perfect if you want a comfortable place to relax and rest after spending a day in Yosemite. Cindy and John's home is fully equipped with everything you need. They go the extra mile with movies, coffee, an extensive game closet and plenty of linens and towels. I would highly recommend their property to anyone that wants an unfussy, comfortable and cozy place to unwind after a long day of hiking. It took us about 45 mins to an hour to get into Yosemite Valley from their home.

Perfect cottage for our family of 4

  • 5 of 5

We decided to stay in Mariposa and make day trips to Yosemite. Z's Retreat was perfect for our needs. The cottage was very clean, cozy, and had everything that we needed. Since we don't have pets, we don't usually book a place that allows them because we are afraid that there might be residual pet hair or odors. I am super picky and can see and smell just about anything, and I could not tell a pet had ever been on the property. Cindy was a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend Z's Retreat to all! Thanks to Cindy and John for sharing their property with us.

Comfortable & cozy, convenient location close to Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my visit. My puppy had a great time too. The Z retreat is very dog friendly. The house was clean and homey. It is decorated nicely, not too fancy & overdone. I enjoyed sleeping in the bird room. Very quiet, slept great!

The drive to Yosemite was beautiful & I thought it was not that far to drive.

A quaint house that has all the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Z retreat...it was such a great location where we could zip into Yosemite or walk to dinner in town, yet still peaceful and serene. It was perfect for our family of 5 plus our 2 dogs. The owners were very welcoming with nice little touches for our arrival and were quick to respond as needed throughout our stay. Our family enjoyed the games that were available as well as the beautiful views from the deck. The home was clean and comfortable and had everything we could possibly need to make the most out of our vacation. We definitely will return and highly recommend this rental property.

Z's Retreat- A Cozy and beautiful home away from home in quaint Mariposa

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Z's Retreat!! If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Cindy and John were so attentive and the house had everything that we needed for our little family, including our two doggies. It is a cozy, inviting and beautifully-decorated home with a beautiful deck in the quaint town of Mariposa. We enjoyed our time in the town of Mariposa, especially the historic courthouse, the cute shops and the many good restaurants. We had an amazing time visiting majestic Yosemite in the snow for two days. If you are looking for a perfect home away from home with access to Yosemite, Z's Retreat is the place for you!
