Why Steve & Gina chose Portage Lakes
This Lake is The Only Non-Man Made Lake in The Portage Lakes. Its As Natural As it Gets. There Are 5 Lakes to Portage But...Long Lake is Natures Way Of Saying Good Morning ! Portage Lakes lies at one of the highest points of the state and on a major watershed divide in Ohio. Some water from the lakes reaches Lake Erie and some flows to the Ohio River. The area became an important trading post for settlers and Indians. It was a recognized landmark during the War of 1812, serving as a rendezvous point of American troops. The old Indian portage path was part of the ancient boundary between the Six Nations and the Western Indians The Portage Lakes have many species swimming in their waters. Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Black and White Crappie, Muskellunge, Eastern Chain Pickerel, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Pumpkinseed, Rainbow Trout, Warmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Channel Catfish, Bullhead, Sucker, and Carp are all found here. Muskellunge are generally found in North Reservoir, while the Pickerel are located in Long Lake. Saugeye are stocked in all lakes.

A real gem!
We spent two nights and two days at Steve and Gina's Lake House and we couldn't have been more happy with the stay.
The house: It's clean, net and has plenty of space and all the kitchen stuff needed, just bring your own food and beverages. We grilled on their grill, built a fire in their huge lakeside backyard and enjoyed the private outdoor deck.
The location: Great! I mean, what a spot!!! It's nestled on this secluded hidden drive that is so close to Akron and Cuyahoga, Canton and Cleveland. It's on a GREAT LAKE! Can't say enough good things.
Hosts: Gina and Steve were excellent hosts. We hung out by the fire our first night, great time.
Enjoyable, we would stay again.
We had some rain on most days of our stay, so didn’t use the lakefront much. Steve was very accomodating with a change to our reservation plans, i.e. extra family members stayed a couple of days.
Many activities in the area within 30- 60 minutes driving time to keep adults and our granddaughter entertained on those rainy days.
This is an older home, but very clean and well tended.
Very clean and comfortable with a beautiful view
We enjoyed our stay. The location was close to Cuyahoga Valley National Park which was our primary destination. The upper deck is spacious and provides evening shade and a beautiful view of the lake. We appreciated the air conditioning as it was in the 90s.
A perfectly peaceful and private retreat. Well appointed and we would certainly stay again!
Slice of Heaven Getaway
Let me start off by saying, We come to the Portage Lakes area 2 - 3 times a year to visit family. We would stay at one of two places every year and this time we thought why not try something different. The other places we stayed at are what you would call the main lakes. Lot's of people, Boats, traffic, it's a party type atmosphere. When you go out in the yard with your family or your pets you'll find yourself waving and saying hi constantly throughout the day and night to the boaters, which is fine but it wears on you a bit after a day or two. Swimming and fishing can also be a challenge sometimes due to traffic. So privacy started to be a concern for us. So when we found this home, we called and Steve understood and said that's why he ended up on this lake. (Privacy) Gina was there to meet us as we arrived that afternoon and I have to tell you the first thing we noticed was how peaceful and quiet it was in the middle of the afternoon. The second thing we notice after Gina walk us through, was how clean the house was and I'm a big fan of a clean house so I cannot Rave enough about that. When she took us out on the deck, the view just takes your breath away, this is a nice size lake. We caught all kinds of fish during our stay, we built camp fires, cooked out almost everyday. The dishwasher saved me so much time and the big screen TV in the living room had Amazon Prime on it so there was plenty to choose from. The beds were really comfortable and a five minute drive, you can be at a 72 Hole Golf Course, Restaurants, a Fresh Market & even the Highway, how convenient. Our family was really taken by all the nature there is to offer. We got lucky finding this Jewel and feel so blessed and now that we know we will be back again and again. I cannot recommend this Slice of Heaven enough. Thank you Steve and Gina for sharing with us something so special.
