About Linda Klar
I grew up in San Antonio and I even have faint memories of Hemisfair 1968 when the Hemisfair Tower was built. My grandparents, who owned the house that is now our vacation house, made sure that me and my sisters were exposed to culture so they offered us opportunities to see the San Antonio Little Theater and performances of the opera. Since my husband, Joe, is a classical music enthusiast, he fit right into the family and my grandparents loved him. With my husband's help and support, we are able to offer this precious home to others to enjoy it's architecture, history and charm. We live in Austin but are in San Antonio every weekend to visit with my mother, sisters and nieces and nephews.
Linda Klar purchased this Cottage in 1910
Why Linda Klar chose Uptown
My great-grandparents built this craftsman house circa 1910. Later they moved out to the hill country where our other vacation rental homes are located. But they held on to this downtown house. In 1968, my grandparents, reclaimed my grandmother's childhood home. My sisters and I have so many wonderful memories of Christmas Eve parties, backyard barbeques, spending the night with our grandparents, family meals in the big dining room. My husband and I took ownership of this sweet old house and we feel so incredibly blessed to have the love of three generations watching over us when we're there.
What makes this Cottage unique
I've always been fascinated by personal histories of cities, houses and families. Since this home was built by my great-grandparents and was the home of my grandmother and her brothers, I frequently think about how they played as children in the yard and how my great-grandmother probably watched them from the kitchen window. I think about the family sitting on the front porch to enjoy cooling breezes and greeting neighbors walking by. I've researched the Craftsman school of design to understand the architecture and beautiful wood trim details, the built-in china cabinet, the divided light windows. I love that almost all the glass in the home is either wavy or beveled.

Great house for cooks / foodies
This home exceeded our expectations in size and the great location and the kitchen being set up to be a cooking kitchen. We made every meal while we were there, this is a very good house for a person who likes to cook when they travel. The beds were very comfortable. The room upstairs does get a little bit warm.
Hi Troy. Thanks so much for making use of our kitchen. We took special care to provide a variety of pots, pans, utensils and knives.
Upstairs, the mini-split air conditioner is a fairly new feature of our home. We have now prepared a fact sheet for the upstairs suite of rooms to better explain how the remote control for the mini-split adjusts the settings to get optimal coolness.
Such a great location! A great place for our family while in San Antonio.
It was so special to stay at a historic home in such a beautiful neighborhood.
I really enjoyed visiting with my grandchildren but I was always scared to open cupboards in the house! There were huge cockroaches! The host was very responsive and had a fumigator come to assist for the remainder of our time. But the fumigator sprayed everywhere saying we were safe with the spray! But very uncomfortable. The whole experience was very uncomfortable for me. The house was close to everything we needed- including Starbucks. But I would have appreciated spraying before we got there and also having more lighting
Ah! No one likes to find uninvited guests in their home so I totally understand how Murray felt. We are very careful about chemicals in our home since many people have safety concerns about the spray and chemical interactions. Usually we have no issues. But those recent rains did stir up some critters. I offered my sincere apologies to Murray and took care of it ASAP! No more critters!
I'm glad Murray enjoyed our perfect location that was so close to everything he needed including - Starbucks, Central Market, Chela's Tacos, Broadway Daily Bread, Bird Bakery, La Madeline, Local Coffee, Cappycino's and so much more.
Beautiful home. Lots of charm. Great location.
Very much enjoyed my stay. The home was clean and the owners were very responsive. Highly recommended.
Very Nice Historic home
Came to San Antonio for my nieces graduation and me, my mom and my aunt had a great time. Love this old home.. neighborhood was quiet, and we enjoyed the books everywhere. (we are all readers!) Sitting on the porch with coffee in the mornings was relaxing before it got too hot. It was a great location, sort of in the middle of my brothers place and downtown. We would definitely stay again. The only things was my bed wasn't the most comfortable.. but the other 2 said theirs was good!
Perfect for us
This is our second stay at the residence, and it was great. The location is so convenient. It’s quiet, very safe and you really feel a part of the neighborhood. We enjoyed events downtown easily, quick access, as well as the local Alamo Hts area, for family and business reasons.
Stay here! You’ll be happy with your choice, over a hotel !!
Our downtown cottage is in the historic Alamo Heights neighborhood. When my husband and I stay there, we walk to Starbucks, Central Market grocery store or Cappy's restaurant. There are so many beautiful historic houses in the neighborhood that we also just enjoy walking to take in the architecture and landscaping. Our house was built by my great-grandparents circa 1910 and this neighborhood dates back even before that so it was one of the first to be built just outside of downtown. We are within five miles of almost anything you'd want to see in San Antonio: the Alamo and Riverwalk, convention center, zoo, botanical gardens, etc. We are also within five miles of the Witte Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art and McNay Art Museum. If you're in SA for educational purposes, we are also just minutes from Trinity University, UTSA downtown, Our Lady of the Lake and the University of the Incarnate Word. For shopping fun, check out the Quarry Market and North Star Mall. It's also quick and easy to get to La Cantera shopping center.
