In need of updates and repairs
I'm not a fan of giving these low star reviews as I'm cognizant of this being a person's income stream, however, our entire experience was bittersweet during our stay. On the one hand, the location is outstanding with it being within driving distance of a TON of activities and walking distance of the beach. On the other, the anxiety and stress brought about by the state of the house kept me from enjoying myself to the fullest.
The cleaning crew did an excellent job with the bathrooms and all the linens were crisp (albeit worn) and clean. But there were cobwebs and dust bunnies all over the ceilings in the main living area. The light fixture on the living area needs to be repaired as it's hanging unevenly. And yes the cushions in the living room need to be replaced as those are very uncomfortable.
Over in the kitchen, the broken drawers don't really impact the usability and it is well stocked with pans, microwave, coffee maker, etc. The only bad thing we encountered in the kitchen was the rotten wood on the frame outside made for quite a bit of water intrusion during rain events.
None of the TV's in the bedrooms worked, but the bedrooms were serviceable as well as were the two bathrooms (each bathroom is shared by 2 bedrooms). You can see water damage below the beach facing windows, again the rotted wood on the outside of the windows must be letting water through.
The outdoor condition was the biggest detractor. The facade is in BIG need of a facelift and so is the wood that makes up the steps, decks, and support pillars. Some of the lateral supports that go from the main support beams to the floor of the main level were detached. And the house did have a noticeable sway. More than any other OBX house I've ever been in. That was the killer for me, the first 36 hours I struggled with motion sickness.
The crow's nest is still out of commission, so being able to fully enjoy the property just wasn't possible. The hot tub was good and we were able to enjoy it.
If you're a relatively low maintenance group of folks, you still can have a blast and at times we certainly did. But the worrying about the swaying house, leaky window, and overall outside conditions with the very worn boards and structure just got in the way to fully relax.
One more note for families. While the beach is within walking distance, it is still a decent treck with a steep climb over the dunes. So it's not easy if you're carrying a lot of items or have small children.
It is ashame that the owner of this home Doesn't want to put any time or money into it.The house is at a great location but it is falling apart. In the reviews from 2016 it said there were things that were broken that are still not fixed. It is pretty clean and does the job but if they don't make some serious repairs on this home I don't know if it will be standing 3 years from now.I cant believe that VRBO would even list this house !
We are encouraged to know that the house is clean and does the job as the traveler states. With respect to structure, it is an ongoing maintenance project given the salt air climate.. Each year during the off season we attempt to address it, but in the meantime we are happy when guests do enjoy the beach, hot tub and surrounding amenities.
The property was smaller than it looks in pictures but it’s still a great size. None of the TVs in the bedrooms worked, not to mention they were very old. Overall experience was great!
Needs definite TLC
I was a little hesitant to reserve this property for our long weekend but in ready the responses to the previous reviews I believed that the issues were resolved, unfortunately they have not been repaired. This house has a GREAT location but the drawers in the kitchen are still hanging off (review from last year), the couch cushions are non-existent (sitting on the wood frame), we did have some bugs during our stay, the wood stairs and deck are in need of some definite repair (treating, nails coming up, etc.) the wood trim outside is rotten and the outside area below had a lot of trash around (we picked up a lot of it). Like I said, the location is great but I would not rent this house again until the repairs have been made.
Thank you for the input...shortly after your stay the stairs to the deck were repaired and pest treatment is constantly taking place because of the environment...hopefully you did enjoy the comfortable bedding, the hot tub and the proximity to the beach..
In need of much repair
The house is in much need of repair. Upon arriving we found plaster from the ceiling that had fallen and was on the floor and counter top. We texted pictures to the owners with no response. The overlook porch was unusable, several drawers in the kitchen were in need of repair with notes stating not to use. The first night it rained and the kitchen window leaked. We learned the next day that there is a whole on the outside above the window that was most likely the cause. The two bedrooms facing the beach have water damage to the walls and both window frames are not safe. We were very disappointed as the pictures that sold us on the place did not resemble what shape the house was in - the pictures must have been taken many years ago. The house has a nice layout but has been very neglected and needs some major repairs.
Thanks..We never saw any pictures; please forward them so we can address any issues. We did indicate with a phone message ahead of your visit that work was being done on the rooftop deck and to let us know if that would present a problem. We never heard anything until now..We always respond to feedback that we receive.
