Relax and enjoy this great 2 bedroom, 1 bath waterfront home in historic Cedar Key, Florida. The house has a large shaded yard with private boat dock. The Bonaire House has the original hardwood floors and native unpainted knotty pine walls that add warmth to this unique original Florida home. The Master bedroom has a Queen bed and the second bedroom has 2 twin beds. Some of the original owners dishes, decoration and art work are still displayed, adding much charm to this 'Florida Cracker House'
Watch the abundant wildlife and beautiful sunrises from the back porch or from the dock's deck. There are beautiful cranes that perch on the dock almost daily. Enjoy a cup of coffee or have your breakfast on the back porch which has a great swing and outdoor seating and overlooks the Gulf's eastern bayou. On low tide see the Pink Spoon Bill's snooping around for minnows that were left behind.
Park your boat, catch crabs and catch redfish off your private dock. Or throw a cast net if you have one! Grill your catch of the day and have a picnic or maybe an just have an old fashion weiner roast in the large shaded back yard. Maybe have a game of Horseshoes! In the fall, enjoy an outdoor fire or oyster roast. The new deck addition at end of dock is equipped with a convenient fish cleaning station. Access to the deep water channel #2 is approximately 250 feet away. No need to get in your car...boat rentals and fishing supplies are available across the street at the Cedar Key Marina.
The high school's tennis courts are open to the public, you don't even need a reservation! A basketball court is located at the beach downtown, just go join in a pick up game!

I was born and raised in Cedar Key, I met Dave there in 1977. We got married in the Cedar Key Episcopal Church in 1989. We reside in Austin Texas, and own and run a automotive repair shop and a body shop. We have two children that are almost adults that love to come to Cedar Key and bring their friends. Their friends usually plan to only stay one week but end up staying 3 or 4 weeks because they are having such a great time!
Rosemary Cooke purchased this house in 1995
We chose to buy a house in Cedar Key because we love the gulf coast, with all of its wildlife, great fishing, good seafood, and all the wonderful places to go that are nearby. The people there are so friendly. We have a lot of friends and family there. It is so different from our hectic lives in Austin. Once we get to Cedar Key, we turn off the computers, phones and any other high tech gadget we have, and start relaxing and trying to really reconnect with one another. The wonderful thing about being in Cedar Key is the time we really spend together there, the kids walk down to the City Park at the beach at night and play basketball, then come home and play board games for hours...you can hear their laughter next door. We sit out on the back porch and just swing and talk...sometime we build a fire in the fire pit and have a wiener roast. We even catch crabs off the boat dock! Over the years as I have traveled I have met so many people that have been to Cedar Key and fell in love with the area and way of life. Everyone that vacationed in Cedar Key as children told me that their fondest memories of growing up or vacationing were from when they traveled to Cedar Key. We LOVE it too!!! And can't wait to retire in Cedar Key.
It is a short walk to downtown Cedar Key's restaurants, shopping and fishing pier. We are directly across from the Cedar Key Marina where you can get all of your boating and fishing supplies. Enjoy the boat dock behind the house, it has a deck area that is great for watching the eastern sunrises. Bikes, kayaks, golf cart rentals, boat tours are all within walking distant. The fishing is terrific and so is the bird watching!! You can fish right behind our house and catch redfish. It is so beautiful out around the other islands. We go almost every year and tour the Old Lighthouse on Seahorse Key. The pelicans are nesting then and when you go up in the light house you can see hundreds of momma pelicans feeding their babies. We see manatees every year out around North Key, they are fascinating whether its your first time or 10th time to see them. When we are coming in from fishing there are always dozens of porpoises that are feeding we stop and are amazed how close they will come up to the boat. You can almost touch them! You won't find a better place than Cedar Key for spectacular sunsets or sunrises!! Be sure to bring your camera! Also bring your water shoes...during the full moon when there is the Spring tide, the tide goes REALLY low, which make is perfect for walking out on the Sand Spit and collecting sand dollars. (Try not to step on them!) There are so many day trips to take near Cedar Key: Manatee and Fanning Springs, Suwanee River, Ichetucknee Springs, you will be amazed how truly beautiful...so much nature....so inexpensive!
Such a sweet and peaceful home. The owner and her sister were very nice and easy to work with. The back porch was the highlight of the trip, beautiful, serene. The first night a huge crane came up to the porch to greet us. We loved the stay. Thank you, Rosemary and Jan.
My wife and I just spent five days at Bonaire House in Cedar Keys. The house was everything we had hoped for, well equipped, very comfortable beds, easy TV and Internet access. Most of all, it was so relaxing to sit on the back porch, facing the bayou, and watch the tide come in and out, with the many birds constantly flying around. Cedar Key is a quaint town, not much to do in it, but we weren´t there to party anyway. As a place to relax, wonderful! My wife was surprised at how well equipped the kitchen was, especially with Saladmaster cookware. Since she loves to cook, we ate our meals right at the house, not eating out once. We will gladly go back should the opportunity presents itself.
The minute we walked into Bonaire House, we knew that we had chosen the perfect place for our vacation. We wanted peace and quiet- a true getaway from life and this is it. The beautiful back porch/deck with its porch swing was welcoming each morning for our coffee and newspaper. The dock was a great place to sun bathe, to watch the sunrise and to look at the stars each night. The house itself is extremely comfortable, very clean and has everything you'll need. My husband and I have said many times - " We're going back there as soon as we can!" Cedar Key is perfectly unspoiled!
The owner is super-easy to work with. Highly recommend Island Girls Pizza, Tony's Seafood and the fudge that is sold at the campground on the way into Cedar Key-we bought six flavors and every one was good.
This house is so cute and very well stocked with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The back porch with swing, table & chairs and the private dock were our favorite places. We took our bikes and rode all over the quaint town of Cedar Key. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Don't fail to eat the clam chowder at Tony's . . .the best I've ever had! Cool shops in the small downtown area. You can easily walk to anything you want to do. I highly recommend this property for a relaxed, laid back time with your family or friends.
Wow. This is it. I have been to Cedar Key before- we all know it is a quiet little getaway....but this house is the perfect spot, it is as if we lived there! It was fabulous, just like being at home. Everything you need is there. We brought the boat and canoe and was able to use dock behind the house. The wildlife around was beautiful. The birds come right up to you. I really recommend this place and I know for a fact we will be coming back as this is where we will always stay-- if its available. Great communication with owner as well.
PS -- close to go visit the the local Springs and parks too!

The Bonaire House was everything we expected...plus more. My boyfriend and I only spent 2 nights there during our week long vacation, but we wish the entire week had been in this Cedar Key house. We were in awe the minute we walked in. The kitchen and bathroom were both fully stocked with every item we could possibly need. The weather was a little chilly during our stay, but we found many options around the house and in Cedar Key to keep us happy. We recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away to a relaxing island with fewer tourists than the Florida Keys, but just as quaint and less expensive. We will definitely be back for a longer stay the next time. :)
