About Dan Rieber

I started coming to this area of Maine when I was 6 years old. My father was a professor so he had summers off and every July 1st, we packed up the car and headed Downeast to Prospect Harbor. Being a city kid from NYC, the summers soon became a welcome respite for a young boy's growing imagination and sense of adventure. I have many happy memories of combing the beach, walking through the woods, going to bean suppers, antique shops and flea markets, Farmer's markets and just enjoying the cool summer ocean breeze. When I married my wife, she fell in love, not only with me but this area of the world. We have together shared many happy memories and our daughter has grown up also loving Maine. We know you will fall in love as well!!

Dan Rieber purchased this cabin in 1969

Why Dan Rieber chose Downeast and Acadia

There is no better place to leave the cares of everyday life behind you, than here. Come reconnect, regroup, re-energize and rejuvenate yourself and your loved ones!

What makes this cabin unique

This area is secluded, remote, private, quiet, constant rhythum of the waves is present, cool temperatures with mosquitos willing to befriend you! Nature offers glimpses of fox, deer, chipmunks, porcupines, seagulls and that occasional siting of the 'Elusive Moose!'

A great location

  • 3 of 5

This cabin is in a great location, right on the rocky shore and as advertised is rustic. It accomodtaes two people and the owner couldn't have been more friendly. The living room was cosy, the kitchen facilities basic but with a good sized fridge. We enjoyed the deck and view, explored the rocky shore and had perfect weather. The bedroom was sparse, not much space and no mirror so we dumped some of our luggage in the box room next door. The bathroom was the downside, it was very stained and rusty and generally in need of renovation. Having said that we had a great week cos this is just such a beautiful spot. We'd give it 3.5 stars and 4 if the bathroom was sorted.

a truly calm place

  • 5 of 5

After having sent off to college our youngest kid, we spent a week in Dan's house, and it was just perfect! Most impressive: the stillness -> you'll hear only the ocean (and the lobster boats in the morning) and some birds (crows, perhaps even a raven?), that's it! This is the perfect place for finally reading the book you always wanted to read, or to just muse about things while watching the hummingbird hoovering perhaps four or five feet from you when you sit on the deck in the morning, talk with your partner, cook a simple dinner in the evening etc, though you can also drive to nearby Corea Harbor to get a lobster roll for lunch, or watch the crashing waves or take a hike at the Schoodic peninsula section of Acadia National Park. We'll most certainly be back (and, importantly, stay off-line again throughout our stay) - what a great place to just be!

(All that said though, we think that it would also be a wonderful place for families with young kids.)

Perfect House for 2

  • 5 of 5

This place was wonderful. My fiance brought me here on a surprise engagement weekend and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect place. Although there are other houses relatively nearby, you would never know it. Also the views are absolutely incredible - we could have spent all day just sitting on the porch listening to the ocean. We also appreciated the owners and their flexibility with our short stay and somewhat last min rental. What a treat for the two of us who have been cooped up in a city for years!

Perfect Maine summer cabin in such a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Fell asleep at night to the sound of gentle waves breaking on the shoreline, woke with the seagulls and lobster boats just offshore. Beautiful, quiet setting close to great seaside towns. The house was just what I hoped it would be, nothing fancy, just your typical Maine summer cabin. Great big windows looking out on the water and sea life. Woods on either side makes it feel like it's the only house there. Loved sitting on the shore in the morning with my coffee, and lighting up the fireplace at night. We're planning to return next year. Lots of fun to take the Bar Harbor ferry - 5 min. drive to the ferry and 20 mins to Bar Harbor!

…Where the forest meets the sea

Enjoy a lobster freshly caught from a neighborhood fisherman in the town of Prospect Harbor, collect beach glass along the shore or just sit out on the deck and enjoy the sound of the waves. You may even catch a glimpse of the resident moose, fondly known as the 'elusive moose'. A great Summer get away for small families or a quiet retreat for two! Rustic cabin in the woods is 75 ft from the ocean. Acadia National Park, Schoodic Point area is only 5 miles away.
