Julie purchased this house in 2002
Our rental property features a large lawn on the beach. This is a very rare find, especially so close to Ithaca. Enjoy lawn games and a large fire pit. From the dock, you have a great view of Cornell University and Ithaca College. There is plenty of parking to accommodate a number of cars without issue.
We had a lovely time. 3 families all managed to squeeze in just fine! Canoeing was fun - and managed to hike in several of the parks. As former Cornellians we really appreciated getting to know the West Side of the lake!
Julie was very responsive and accommodating, as I was able to check in a few hours earlier than planned. The house was spacious and everything was very clean. Two canoes with a handful of life jackets were made available, and the backyard space was great for gathering around the fire pit at night.
There are three bedrooms upstairs (two with queens, one with four single beds--the bunk bed room) and downstairs a spare room with a twin pullout couch and the main room with two long couches and plenty of floor space. There is also a full bathroom on each of the two floors, as well as a washer and dryer and a dishwasher.
Only complaints would be the lawn chairs are a bit sun worn and cracking, the TV remote wouldn't change channels, only turn on and off the TV, and the wifi was slow.
All in all, exactly what we were looking for in a lake house close (by car) to town and the university. Highly recommended.
We came to the Finger Lakes area to enjoy the lake and some hiking. This house provided a beautiful view of the lake with a great dock and canoes to use as well as close proximity to Ithaca and the many hikes to enjoy. The owners even provided some wonderful coffee for us that was roasted locally. As others have said, the driveway is difficult to find and could be better marked. I think we missed it almost every time, even in the daylight. Be prepared for steps both to the house from parking and to the lake, which can provide some of the healthy exercise for your stay! I would only suggest that things be marked a bit better for convenience. We had to use the air conditioner and didn't know it worked on a wall switch and the disposal switch was difficult to find since it was underneath the sink. Other than that we were able to find everything needed and enjoyed a well-stocked kitchen.
Members of my party agreed that we experienced a 3-star rental. I see that a lot of reviewers were very happy with the property; we were moderately satisfied. We found the owner to be lacking in the communication and hospitality departments. A couple of her responses to reviews on this site are defensive, so I fully expect some sort of rebuttal. With regrets, we will not return to this property. For specific feedback on my stay, you can find me on social media as Fran Cladek.
A group of 10 of us went to celebrate my birthday and the lakehouse suited our needs. The minor issues were (1) the AC does not really work - it apparently only goes into one of the bedrooms but we couldn't really figure it out. Luckily they had an industrial fan for the common area, (2) there is a tenant in the basement unit that we weren't aware of, and (3) there were spiderwebs in some parts of the house (although generally it was clean).
The dock, grass lawn, and fire pit were awesome! However, the driveway could be marked better since it is a very quick turn on a busy road, only one bedroom was air-conditioned, but plenty of fans were supplied. We had dogs, and would have liked the side door to lead to a useable pet area that we would be willing to clean ourselves. Lots of stairs! Stairs from car to house, and lots more from house to dock.
Great lake view!!! There are a lot of steps, but that was stated in the description. There was no firewood in the fire pit and when you put utensils in the dishwasher, they fell through because the bottoms were damaged. It would have been nice to have ice and water from the refrigerator and hot water from the dispenser at the sink. It looks like the owners are working on improving the house. I'm sure it will improve over time.
Located on Cayuga Lake in the heart of finger lakes wine country, close to Ithaca. Easy access to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.
