Skipper's Retreat is tucked at the edge of the village which keeps life peaceful and secluded even though the heart of Sutton’s Bay (beaches, marina, restaurants, shops and movie theater) are only a three-minute walk away. Launch your boat at the municipal marina or enjoy the kids park and pristine public beaches. The trail head for the famous TART bike trail is only a two-minute ride and destinations like Leland, Lake Leelanau, Northport, Glen Arbor, Empire and Traverse City are all just minutes by car.
Autumn is one of the most spectacular times to experience 'The County' and with two wood burning fireplaces you will stay cozy inside as the fall leaves put on their show outside.
In the Winter...Skipper's Retreat is the perfect property for skiers with several groomed trails within skiing distance and plenty of ski resorts within 45 minutes for downhill enthusiasts!
Wine tours are another year round favorite and Skipper's Retreat is perched right in the middle of Leelanau wine country!
This cottage home was built in 2002 with family and fun in mind. There is plenty of outdoor living to enjoy thanks to an expansive covered porch that may be used rain or shine. The south porch offers outdoor dining with a teak table and chairs. It is located just off the indoor dining room so it is perfect for the kids table! French doors in the lower level open up to a large grotto with outdoor furniture for sunbathing, relaxing or entertaining. A large stainless Weber gas grill cooks enough food for family and friends and the patio table with umbrella serves as another perfect outdoor dining spot.
The gourmet galley kitchen comes with granite counter tops, Sub-Zero refrigerator, 6-burner Wolf range, Asko dishwasher and Inca-Pro venting system for all you chefs out there. A microwave oven, toaster and blender are also offered for your convenience.
The kitchen opens up to the living area with a cottage style stone fireplace and a dining area surrounded by glass. There is also a large island with four stools for additional seating.
The master bedroom is located off of the kitchen and opens to a covered deck that looks over the grotto and expansive yard. The master bathroom and walk-in closet are located behind the bedroom and are kept private from other guests. The master garden tub is surrounded by windows and sheer shades for privacy.
Two bedrooms in the upper level share a large bathroom with the vanity sink kept separate from the toilet and tub for privacy. The lower level has a second living area and fireplace that is open to a small office area. The house is fully equipped with a secured wireless internet. Pass codes will be provided upon check-in. The signal is excellent throughout the entire house but a household computer is not provided so don't forget your laptop!
The fourth bedroom has an attached full bath with a glass/stone shower. This is considered the garden level and there is plenty of natural light with a generous amount of windows.
Dogs may be considered; an additional $75.00 pet fee is required.
There is plenty of room to park your boat and trailer on the large driveway and a garage to store your bikes. If you enjoy basketball or tennis, the public courts are only a block away. We also have several golf courses close by in the county.
My family has created many wonderful memories here at Skipper's Retreat...we know you will too! Additional photos available upon request.

I was raised here in beautiful Leelanau County and I love this area as much as you will! Now that my children have flown the nest I want others to enjoy it as much as we have!
Nancy Loveland purchased this house in 2002
This lovely home was built by one of Northern Michigan's premier builders just for my family. FL Padella knows how to create a special cozy feel in the custom homes they build. You will be transported immediately as you drive up and round the corner on Jefferson St. The architect David Hanawalt kept the ambiance of the Village in his simple design, creating clean open spaces that invite the outdoors in! I have had several guests parade out of the cottage excitedly exclaiming...'This is the vacation home we want to build!' Sophie's Cottage is extremely well maintained thanks to Easling Construction's Home Maintenance team. Easling's impeccable reputation is well earned and you can rest assured a representative will be there immediately if any service is needed on the home or property.
Waking up to the sunrise with a cup of coffee on the Adirondack chairs is always a special treat. You will enjoy the birds and wildlife every morning! I walk to my favorite restaurant Martha's on main street or to the delightful Bay Theater which is only a 4 minute walk !
Skippers retreat exceeded our expectations ! It felt like "my home " Can't say enough wonderful things about this place. We definitely will be coming back !!!
Our family stayed at Nancy's home for our daughters wedding at Black Star Farms. The home is beautiful and spacious. The location was perfect and we would love to come again. Thank you Nancy for sharing your home with us.
Skipper's Retreat exceeded our expectations in every way possible. The house was extremely clean, owner was quick to respond to any questions, and there was plenty of space to handle eight of us. Some of the highlights of the house were the heated bathroom floors, gas / wood fire place (house was stocked with wood), the giant island in the kitchen, and a fully stocked kitchen. We would highly recommend this house for any season.
Wow - this is really a beautiful home and a great place to visit! I almost hesitate to write a great review so I can keep this place a secret. I booked two nights over New Years for my wife's 40th birthday. She absolutely loved it and kept saying it was like her own Hallmark movie moment. The master suite is very nice and the heated floors in the bathroom are very nice in the winter. I think our favorite part of the whole house was two wood burning fireplaces with gas ignition. We didn't get a chance to use them at all since it's winter but there are very nice porches that would be perfect for morning coffee or evening relaxing. The kitchen is top notch too. Nancy (the owner) is very responsive and pays attention to all the small details that make your stay memorable. We would definitely visit again!
After enjoying some family time for a week at Skipper's Retreat over this past 4th of July, we stayed at this lovely home again with two other couples to enjoy Toast the Season from 11/6-11/9. Nancy's home is immaculate, comfortable and beautifully decorated! We love the porches off the main level and patio with fire pit and space heater off the lower level. Being walking distance into downtown Sutton's Bay is great, too. Don't hesitate to book this home for your next family vacation or weekend getaway :)
This wonderful home is a gem in northern Michigan. So comfortable, airy and fresh ! Appointed beautifully in all rooms. High end and yet so comfortable ! A true treasure not to be passed up !
