|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Designed by award-winning tropical architect Carlos Betancourt, Casa Panorama is located on a hill-top in Pilón, a secluded, rural neighborhood 10 minutes from Sun Bay, one of Vieques’ most beautiful beaches, and 10 minutes from the village of Esperanza. It has a BBQ, satellite TV, DVD player, beach chairs, beach umbrella, washing machine, and ceiling fans. Have your coffee in the morning, and your cocktail at sunset, on the veranda looking over an astounding view.
My mother, Esther, is on the left and I, Emily, am on the right. My mother is originally from Vieques, but we live on the "Big Island" of Puerto Rico. My mother built the house and it was finished in 2000. It is used by our family occasionally and is available for rent when not in personal use. We love the house, as does everyone who enters.
Our stay at Casa Panorama was wonderful! It holds up to its name-breathtaking sunrises over the Atlantic whilst sipping a hot cup of coffee on the veranda. The surroundings are peaceful and the neighbours quiet. Our hostess, Emily, was gracious and accomodating. She saw to it that all our questions were answered and went out of her way to help us get to Vieques. Of all the places I looked at on Homes Away, Casa Panorama was the only one in this price range which had no "hidden costs" - (extra charges for more than two people), and when it states "sleeps 6", then it means 3 nice double beds with mattresses (and not blow up mattresses!) I can truly recommend this property for a quiet Caribbean getaway.
Aptly named Casa Panorama does indeed have a breath-taking view of the Caribbean Sea but you will soon come to appreciate the other advantages of it's central and elevated location. It was always a pleasure to deal with Emily who was an attentive and caring host and we really appreciated sweet Maria picking us up at the airport, driving us to our car rental and then escorting us to Casa Panorama. It made us feel immediately relaxed and welcome to beautiful Vieques. Upon our arrival, we opened every shutter in the house and never shut them for the rest of the week....the breeze was amazing. We enjoyed breakfast on the lanai every morning, usually packed a picnic lunch and spent the rest of the day snorkeling at a variety of the beautiful beaches. Our favorite snorkeling was with Little Boat when Jorge took us to two off shore reefs on his Hobie, and snorkeling the west side of Cayo La Chiva at La Chiva beach. Read The Vieques Insider Beach Guide on Emily's coffee table to learn everything you need to know about the incredible Vieques beaches. When we had had enough sun and salt water, we would come "home" to a nice hot shower and relaxing cocktail on the lanai before heading out to dinner. The hot water on demand system never runs out. We were amazed at the selection of good restaurants available on such a small island. Every night we ate at a different place, some just down the road like Noche and Tin Box and on other nights we drove about 10 minutes into Esperanza and walked the Malecon until we decided on our spot for the night. One day we had a great lunch at Café Mamasonga in Isabel II and got some great shots of the largest and most colorful Iguana we have ever seen live, as he wandered along some branches and lumbered onto the railing surrounding the bar and just had a little visit. On our first night, we enjoyed a magical glass bottom kayak tour of the Bioluminescent Bay with Taino. Check the lunar calendar before booking your tour. Every night we fell to sleep easily in the comfy beds surrounded by the quiet night and gentle breeze. The next time we come to Vieques, we hope to stay at Casa Panorama for two weeks instead of just one. Thank you again Emily and Esther for sharing your lovely home with us. We usually rent another property on Vieques but it was not available the last week of January 2016 so we looked for an alternate and landed at Casa Panorama. We were very pleased with our choice. We like the immediate neighborhood (where routes 201 and 995 intersect) more than where we usually stay in the Dos Chivos area (closer to Isabel II). Casa Panorama is on a large lot and it is much quieter than other sections of the island. The house is located away from the road. There is a good view. There are neighboring houses but none appeared to be occupied while we were there so it was quiet for sure. The porch at the front of the house is a great place to sit and chat. We enjoyed reading there and evening cocktails. The kitchen was immaculately clean, as was the rest of the house. All the glasses, dishes, kitchenware were spotless. The house has lots of thoughtful touches making renters feel welcomed. The living room is comfortably furnished. We watch TV most evenings and appreciated the cable. I think it is DirectTV. The DVD player was not plugged in. The cord was wrapped tight and tucked away. I did plug it in but could not get it to work. Everything else in the house functioned well. There is no WiFi and there is no dishwasher in the kitchen and no dryer in the laundry room although there is a clothes line at the side of the house and anything you wash will dry fast in the sunshine and the constant breezes that also help keep flying insects away. I don't think there is a/c in the house and we didn't even look for it as the breeze keeps the house cool day and night. The house has plenty of towels, including beach towels and beach chairs too. There is no pool but, if you can live with that, Casa Panorama is a great rental option. You will be at SunBay and Esperanza in just a few minutes (by car) and the drive to Isabel II is a little longer but actually nice along 201 and then 200. Dealing with Emily was always pleasant and I suggest that you get her cell number and text her (as opposed to email) for quick responses. D&D
Casa Panorama worked out quite well for us (two couples). We found the house to be well stocked with all necessities. We did have to pick up charcoal starter for the grill (grill is small but was ok). One of the best parts about the house is the front porch - we spent most of our time there! House was clean and comfortable. We were at first disappointed that the location/neighborhood was not published but it worked out great anyway. It is quiet and peaceful - but that is why we come to Vieques.
Some definite pluses were the washing machine, cooling breezes coming up the hillside, coolers/umbrellas/extra towels, outside hose, hammock, the view.
January 2015. We came in and felt like home. Casa Panorama has a huge porch with a breathtaking ocean view. We enjoyed so much to start the day with the best Puerto Rico coffee (Yaucono) and this panorama. We had a wonderful sleep in the comfortable queen bed and appreciated very much to have this well equipped kitchen. In the garden we had horses, lizards and many birds. We even saw a hummingbird! With the Car or Scooter we could reach Esperanza and Sun Beach within 10 minutes. We love Vieques! Go to Bio Bay with Taino. You will never forget this night.
We hope Casa Panorama will stay a secrete place, so it will be available next time when we would like to visit :-). We wish to come back! All the best for Emily and her family.
Quite simply... there is not enough space to write all of the wonderful things about this home.
The location has to be one of the most perfect on the island - close to the beaches, the W spa, great restaurants (Tin Box, Noche, Noche, and El Quenepo to name a few). Plus it is so close to Esperanza, which is where a lot of the action is during the day and at night.
The house itself feels like a home... one of those homes that you dream of with glorious, orangey-pink sunrises every morning that make your eyes water that something so beautiful exists. It has virtually every amenity that you need. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom has excellent water pressure. The kitchen is perfectly equipped. The hammock sways in the gentle breezes. With the windows and doors on the huge porch open - the house benefits from an instant cross breeze. It's cool in the daytime even in the Vieques heat. The same breezes push away the mosquitos, which most other houses have problems with.
There are plenty of beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel equipment.... everything you need for a beach vacation.
Last, but not least... the owners of the house are fantastic, kind and warm. They see to it that everything was taken care of for us, including a pick up at the airport. They were always quick to respond via phone or text if we needed anything at all.
Bottom line, this is a wonderful place to stay on Vieques. Having stayed at the Hix Island Hotel last year, I rate Casa Panorama above and beyond that. My husband and I will stay here again when we visit Vieques next.
Close your eyes and dream about it then open your eyes and your here.
For many years my wife and I have been coming to our second home...Vieques.
We have stayed at many very nice Casitas. I videotape many weddings with my wife as the photographer all over the island and can say we have found the house on our little island second home.
Emily...you are the finest of hosts....even with your new grandchild happening during our stay you found the time to make sure EVERYTHING was perfect or better for us.
As we plan our next trip to Vieques to yet again document another Destination Wedding....be expecting a call from us for accommodations.
The view will be stuck in your head forever.
Thank you for more than we imagined.
Bruce, Michele and little Johnny
Vieques Island feels like going back in time. There are no traffic lights, no highways, no fast food restaurants, no high-rises. It does have gorgeous beaches, friendly people, and a laid-back, tranquil environment.
