Keywords: quiet, peaceful, near ammenities
Just returned from a 2 week stay and we loved it. The 2BR unit has 2 queen beds and all the amenities you could ask for. The owner was extremely responsive to our questions, since this was our first trip to Maine and there were many brochures of the area in the condo. We would definitely rent again. A trip to Acadia should be in your"bucket list".
Recommendations: Fishermans Inn for dinner, Chases for breakfast and Gerrittsons for that midday ice cream. Do not miss Chapter Two in Corea for some unique items.
My husband and I recently concluded our stay here and highly recommend this property. This is a perfect spot for those looking for peace and quiet, raw coastal beauty, and a slower pace. We love the area and have visited many times before, but we had never actually stayed in Winter Harbor. We will certainly be back!
The listing (pictures, amenities and all), was right on! The condo was clean and attractive, and had all the necessities (including iron/ironing board and hair dryer). My husband had forgotten to pack our Maine Gazeteer, and we were delighted to find one in the condo.
We love the Fisherman's Inn, where we have celebrated a number of wedding anniversaries, including this one. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the condo! The lobster pie, scallops, and strawberry rhubarb crisp are delicious! Chase's is a short ride down the street and is also very good. We found very good blueberry muffins at the Schoodic Visitor Center, and enjoyed snacks (salmon and cheddar spreads, smoked salmon and mussels) from the Grindstone Neck Smokehouse, which is just up the road from Fisherman's Inn and owned by the same family.
For things to do you can't beat the Schoodic Peninsula! We have our favorite spot in the rocks to watch the surf; it is a place that calls us back! We loved the condo's proximity to town and took walks up the Main street; we also sat on the benches overlooking the harbor and watched the tide come in. There are a number of galleries, antique shops, and other shops to knock around. We absolutely love the 5 & 10; it is the perfect spot to spend time on a rainy day!
There is a 9 hole golf course nearby, Grindstone Neck. It was quite sloppy due to the recent rains and rocky ledge, but there is a charm about it with its wild blueberry bushes and picturesque holes by the water. I just wish it were better maintained.
A final word about the owner: he was extremely helpful in answering our questions. When I asked, he could not recall if there was an iron and ironing board in the condo (there was), but told me if they were not there, to let him know and he would get them for me.
All in all, a wonderful and memorable time away!
I normally don't write reviews, partly because I'm too busy and/or forget all together. However, on this one I had to write to let any of you who are looking for a great condo, in a perfect location, for an amazing price in on this place. We knew we wanted to stay on the coast of Maine. My only criteria was I needed to see the ocean (all the time) and wanted to be near everything. This property has it all. We walked to town, to restaurants, and to the harbor numerous times (it's literally a 3 min walk). It was also only approx 3 miles to the most amazing bike riding/walking in the Schoodic Peninsula and some of the best views on the coast--and it was almost always empty--not like the touristy Bar Harbor--but if that's what you like, you can take a ferry over there, walk around with the thousand other tourists, then come home to peace, quiet and beauty.. Also, right next door is one of the best bakeries around--incredible blue berry muffins, pastries & pies. We understand that the owner went to France and attended the Cordon Bleu school--it shows!
Trust me, I've spend countless hours trying to find the best place I could for the budget I had. We chose here and to be honest couldn't have been any more impressed. I promise you, if you're still considering whether or not to lock this place in DO IT before someone else does.
We will definitely be back--hopefully for longer than a week next time.
