Massachusetts-based family with a love for Maine!
Mike purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Mike chose Spruce Head
We love the amazing ocean views that surround you, the peaceful and private cove beach, the laid back atmosphere of the area, the excellent kayaking, the small shops and restaurants and the dozens of mid-coast Maine attractions and small sea-side towns all within a short drive and without the huge summer crowds.
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. With a private sandy-rocky beach, excellent kayaking, walks around the island and sweeping views of the ocean from the deck or inside the living room you could spend days just poking about the cove and island. If you are feeling like exploring, in minutes you can be in several small villages like Damariscotta, Rockland, Camden, Tenants Harbor and all they have to offer which include wineries, summer festivals, unique Maine shops, fresh seafood and vegetables, beaches, hiking, ferries to near by islands, and so much, much more! Excellent restaurants like Primo (the chef was awarded James Beard '2013 Best Chef in the Northeast' award!), Café Miranda, Waterman Beach Lobster and Rockcity Café offer a wide variety of tastes and price ranges.

Great Oceanside Maine Retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. You can't get any closer to the ocean and or a more peaceful time than this. It's a great base from which to explore the other towns up and down the coast, take the ferry to Monhegan Island or just sit on the deck watching the boats and wildlife. We never had any issues with anything. If you can't leave the world behind, the tv and internet keep you in touch. Everything in the listing is exactly as you will find it. It was a pleasure working with the owner. Thank you and see you again.
Wonderful beach house--relaxing, so close you can hear the waves as you go to sleep. Divine!
This was the ultimate seaside retreat you dream of. The ocean, the sounds of the waves, the salt air, the sunrises, the friendly people in town-- all wonderful.
Perfect for what we wanted
I wanted a perfect water view and this little cottage/cabin delivered 100%. I've stayed in many VRBO condos, cottages, houses etc and I think this was my very favorite for just the beauty and relaxation quotient, and that's up against some stiff competition!
Cable and wifi were good once we realized the password in our welcome book was wrong and Adam, the caretaker--great guy--found the right one on a sticker on the router. He also brought us tp and paper towels which would have been plenty if we were only going to be there for a night or two, but not for a week.
If you want luxury and well stocked kitchen utensils etc, you'll be disappointed, but if you want a charming, relaxing time in a family's getaway cabin on the bay, you'll be delighted.
Also, this is the first time in my VRBO experience that sheets and towels were an add on.
So, 4 stars instead of 5.
Oh! And many thanks to Mike who talked us through a dark rainy night's battle with the lock box. He was very kind and patient.
Clean & Comfortable
The property was as we pictured it - large enough for a family of 4 & on the water with a beautiful view. Our children loved being able to put their kyacks in right on this lovely cove. This was our first time booking with VRBO and this experience was so smooth we would definitely consider it again!
Just what we were after
Great getaway on calm and peaceful cove. Perfect spot to explore the mid-coast and all it has to offer. Water lapping on the shore can't be beat. Cottage is vintage Maine with just enough amenities for maximum comfort. Views spectacular. Cooking is easy. Nearby restaurants also all lovely. Bedrooms a bit tight, but just right for family of four/w kids. Locals very friendly to those "from away." We've been vacationing in Maine for 10 years and will definitely return to this spot. Owner very nice and easy to work with. Missing it already!
Beautiful and Restful
The location was absolutely wonderful and peaceful. Remote enough to feel secluded but an easy drive to cute towns and shops. The cottage had the bare necessities and was comfortable. The views were beautiful and we were even lucky enough to catch the sunrise on our first morning there. If you are looking for a quiet, remote and restful vacation then this cottage and location are perfect! One star off for having to pay extra for sheets and towels.
The cottage is located just 10 minutes from all of the shops, stores and grocery you might need as well as many restaurants, galleries, wineries, state beach, lighthouse walk and the many Rockland Festivals that happen all summer. 2 miles away is the Waterman Beach Lobster Shack. In 20 minutes, you can be in Camden with all it has to offer including hiking in the Camden Hills of Mount Batty, sailing cruises, etc.. Also in 20 minutes, you can be in Tenants Harbor/Port Clyde with boat trips to Monhegan Island, Puffin cruises and many other kid friendly boat trips.
