Maine native. Grew up on a lake in Maine and wanted to recreate my childhood for my children.
David purchased this cottage in 2007
We put a lot of thought into the location of our vacation home and this is a secret gem. I grew up in Maine and never knew these lakes/ponds existed. Close to EVERYTHING. Beach, Boston, Outlets, Airports, Restaurants, Antiquing, Amusement Parks.... we were looking for a property on a private lake (no campgrounds, no public boat launch). Water quality was a major priority (everyone comments on how crystal clear it is) and we had to be on the East shoreline for the fantastic Maine Sunsets (you have direct sunshine for more of the day). Being situated in the middle of the lake provides views of the entire lake so you can always keep an eye on your kids. A smaller lake means the water never gets too choppy and is typically warmer than a large lake.
The views are spectacular. There's nothing like waking up, sitting on the deck with a coffee and listening to the wind and the loons... well, taking a nap in the hammock (listening to the wind and loons) is pretty special too.
In the middle of our ten-day vacation, my nineteen-year-old daughter stepped into the kitchen and announced: I think that I just had the most perfect day." Her remark pretty much sums up our family experience at this wonderful lakefront property. We so enjoyed our stay on this property: the lake water was warm and clean, the two kayaks great for tours around the lake (and although I didn't try the paddle board, everyone else in my family did and thought it was terrific fun), the hammock was comfortable for resting and reading, and the view...the most lovely view of the sun reflecting off the pier. Life doesn't get better than this. My husband was truly sad to leave; his only consolation was my promise that we would return next year. Needless to say, I can't recommend this place enough. Even booking was easy! David was a super responsive host. He texted me to ensure that we arrived safe, and again during the trip to make sure everything was coming along. He also won the hearts of my kids when they discovered graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolates for s'mores for the fire pit. Thanks, David!
Oooooh I would rather keep this cottage a secret! We had a great time on Swan Pond. The water was clear and warm. The floating dock, kayaks, paddle board, and hammock were fabulous. The kids had fun playing basketball and toasting s'mores at the fire pit. My family of 5 fit perfectly in the cottage. We explored the lake and had fun visiting familiar places nearby. It was nice and quiet during the week while we were there as well. Hannaford grocery store is just 8 miles away. Kennebunkport is just 17 miles away. We ate at Pine Point which is always a favorite. I had to pick up my husband at the airport late one night and it is very convenient to drive to PWM. I have nothing negative to say about our stay! Friends who stopped by (some of them on kayaks!) thought the cottage was just adorable. I hope to stay there next summer.
The property and cottage are picture perfect. No detail is missed! Homey, modern and every amenity you could possibly need. The lake is incredible, clean and great for swimming! Can't wait to go back ;-)
We had such a lovely time in this beautiful, very clean and well maintained home! The pond is absolutely gorgeous with its clear water and quiet atmosphere. The owners were very attentive to our needs and helped us plan our activities. I would highly recommend renting this home!
We absolutely loved this house and location! My husband and I, along with our five-year-old daughter and my mother, stayed for a week, and found that the house met all of our needs. Our daughter loved being in the lake, the house was perfectly appointed, and the lake was gorgeous. It's a nice, quiet spot with plenty to do including lake activities, fire pit, hammock - we rarely felt the need to leave! When we did however, we were close to Portland and the beaches and places to explore. We hope to come back soon!
This was our second stay at the Donatelli cottage on Swan Pond. Last year my wife had a one week stay and enjoyed it so much that this summer we made it a two week stay. As a bonus we were able to have our daughter and two grand daughters, ages eight and eleven, with us for a few days. It was great.
This place has everything you could want for a perfect vacation. The kids loved the kayaks, dock and float to jump off into the water, and the basketball court. and when they were worn out they could relax in the nice rope hammock. The same went for us adults. There is a beautiful bike trail less than ten miles away so my wife and I were able to take several nice rides on our bicycles. In fact everything including restaurants, the ocean, shopping, and even a golf course is within a fifteen mile radius of the cottage.
We have rented many lakeside cottages but this cottage on Swan Pond is by far the one that had the most on site facilities for a complete vacation whether you tend to be active or just want to relax. I would recommend it to anyone and my wife and I hope to return next year.
