'Spending time traveling inspired us to help other travelers find a lodging alternative and tours of Chile. We started ChilePlace to provide a welcoming place with all the comforts of home and personalized tours at a reasonable cost.' Gloria Renard and Hector Castro
Gloria Renard purchased this farmhouse in 2004
We decided to live here in the countryside more than 20 years ago, for its unique atmosphere, calm and beauty and its perfect location. We are just 20 minutes driving from Casablanca Wineries and 25 minutes from Valparaiso. Santiago airport is about 1 hour from La Retuca.
We just receive more than 2 persons when they are friends or family, to guarantee our personalized cares. My husband Hector and I will be your guide and drivers and we'll love to cook for you around a bottle of wine.
We also will be glad to figure out with you the best tour options, according to your main interests. We both speak Spanish , English, French and Hector speaks fluently Italian as well.
What an experience. We have loved every moment of our time spent with Gloria and Hector.
They welcome you into their home with open arms and hearts.
Our little sanctuary is comfortable and homey.
Wonderful tour guides, amazing cooks,
You come as strangers and leave as family.
I will be sad to leave behind my new Chilean friends.
Much love and gratitude
So glad we found Hector and Gloria's B&B. Even before we arrived, Gloria was warm and welcoming, and we loved the property's orchards, charming bedroom, and peaceful location. They met us with pisco sours, gave directions for an evening walk, and served a delicious dinner (with perfect wines and great conversation) when we returned. Had the best night's sleep ever. As other reviewers say, too, Gloria and Hector are more than perfect hosts--they're like old friends with an incredible wealth of knowledge and extraordinary generosity of spirit. Just a couple of examples (could give many more): they advised us (correctly) not to drive our car into Valparaiso for a busy holiday weekend--instead, they generously and cheerfully drove us to our next hotel themselves! And after learning that we were having trouble finding a Thanksgiving turkey in Santiago, Gloria called around, found a rotisería near our apartment that would roast one for us, and sent us the details. And this was AFTER we'd left! So glad we had the privilege of meeting them and staying in their beautiful house, and hope to return.
I should have written a review long ago about how amazing our visit was with Gloria and Hector! My boyfriend and I went in February and had such a wonderful time. The pictures do not justice to how beautiful and welcoming their home is. So cozy and so relaxing and we could not have asked for better hosts! They were so accommodating and helpful with everything. We were taken to phenomenal vineyards, had a beautiful time in Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. If you are wine drinkers and love Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir this is the place to be! They know the perfect spots to take you! Thank you for all the wonderful memories and hopefully we can make another trip sooner than later!
This property is a hidden gem. We stayed for four relaxing, peaceful days in the countryside. Gloria and Hector were a delight. We were greeted with a welcome sign on the gate, a pitcher of pisco sours and appetizers. They prepared excellent meals, especially Hector's paella. Located near the Casablanca valley and wineries, we were able to have some great wine tours. Gloria acted as our tour guide on visits to Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, and Hector dropped us off at the cruise terminal to begin our cruise. Would definitely stay here again.
Gloria and Hector are the quintessential hosts. From the moment we booked, they were attentive, professional, and thorough. Once we arrived, they treated us like long-lost friends. They offered us a chance to see Chile in a way that would not have been possible, showing us the beauty of not just the countryside, but the people. Their home is clean and cozy, surrounded by beautiful fruit and nut trees (which will make an appearance on the breakfast table!). Hector and Gloria are each fabulous cooks, providing us with some of the best food we had during the entire two weeks in Chile, especially Gloria's pastel de choclo and Hector's homemade bread. They are incredibly kind and caring: even after we left, Hector and Gloria stayed in touch to be sure we made it to our next destination safely and sent recommendations for things to do. They are truly very special people, and we miss them already!
This is far more than a B&B. What Gloria and Hector are offering you is a chance to see Chile in a way you'd never get seeing it on your own, or using a guide service. Gloria and Hector started by booking tours, but found that too much time was spent driving guests to and from their accommodations. They decided to start taking guests into their home, providing both breakfast and dinner. This completely changes the experience you will have while touring. You are not just a customer, you are a friend. Gloria will make sure before you get there that she knows what you want from your stay, even Skyping if you wish. Food preferences, places you want to see, things you want to do. If you're not sure what you want to see and do they will help you figure it out.
During your stay with them, you will EXPERIENCE Chile. The day starts with a simple breakfast - fresh fruit, yogurt, toasted homemade bread, slices of ham and cheese, tea, coffee - or whatever else you and Gloria have arranged. Then they will take you to see and do whatever you and they have planned. Gloria will be your escort, guide, knower of all things Chilean. She'll be your guardian angel, making sure you stay out of trouble. Not only will she be your translator if needed, but she has fun doing it, even negotiating with merchants and vendors to get you the best deals - and she knows where to go! Hector will drive you, expertly negotiating the crowded city streets and highways alike. Because of both of their personal, intimate knowledge of Chile, every moment you are with them you are seeing things no ordinary guide service could show you. They have knowledge and connections that can get you into places other guides can't. The day ends back at home, with Hector making wonderful dinners, showing off his wide range of cooking talents, from French and Italian to Chilean and Peruvian. While leisurely enjoying dinner and conversation, you continue to know Chile through the experiences and stories of your hosts. Then it's off to bed, to start all over the next day.
Our advice: Trust them. Let them show Chile to you. It was our first international trip, and neither of us speak Spanish, yet we were comfortable wherever we went, from Valparaiso to Santiago, from a hidden German brewery in Olmue to the green market in Quilpue, from a huaso boot shop in Quillota, to the top of Cerro San Christobal, from Isla Negra to La Sebastiana. Let Tito (Hector) drive, let Piti (Gloria) guide, and just enjoy yourself!
