About Michele Palatas

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I moved to Alaska in 1998 to work in Deadhorse-Prudhoe Bay, in the Arctic on the Beaufort Sea. I quickly became enchanted with this beautiful place we call Alaska! If you love the outdoors, this is the place!

Michele Palatas purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Michele Palatas chose Anchorage

I purchased this duplex in 2002 along with two more, and made four of the units, fully furnished guesthouses. You may rent both the Cottage (912285) and the Cabin if you require more room. Since then I have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world to our city nestled between Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

The convenience of being near to downtown and midtown, the Seward Highway heading south and the Glenn Highway heading north, make this a perfect location to get out and experience Anchorage and nearby attractions. The two cottages in the back, The Cabin and The Cottage (912285) are only one of two in all of Anchorage. Built in 1951 to accommodate personnel at the first airstrip, Merrill Field, they have been completely renovated in the past couple years, and the Cabin and Cottage are now quite cute and comfortable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much Michele. This has been one of my most relaxing yet busy trips I have taken in a long time. I love your place. It is so cozy and warm. It has been delightful.

Good place to stay at reasonable price

  • 5 of 5

We were pleased to stay at the cabin for 8 nights. The cabin was homey, good value, very clean, free parking and met our needs well. Had everything we needed and a large grocery store within 5 minutes drive. The Alaska Coastal Trail was a 10 minute drive and great for walking. Downtown Anchorage was 2 miles. Since there would be two of us sleeping in the bedroom, the owner made certain that we knew the bed was a "double" before we booked. While we would have preferred a queen size, it was fine. The owner was responsive - answering our questions, quickly having a problem remedied, providing tourist recommendations, etc. We would stay here again and recommend it to others. It was not fancy - no great scenic vistas - rather, a modest duplex in a working class neighborhood. I am giving it a "5" because each night it felt like coming "home" and it was a good value for the cost.

Wonderful base for visiting Anchorage

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at this duplex. The 'cabin' is comfortable, well maintained and decorated and has most anything you might need. My hubby loved the fluffy towels. Michele is friendly, available and helpful. We spent almost a week here visiting our son; this location was very convenient for seeing him, a quick trip downtown, or easy freeway access for exploring the area. We will happily stay here again.

Very comfortable stay, quiet and close to town

  • 5 of 5

Having lived in Fairbanks for more than 10 years, I travel occasionally throughout state including Anchorage and have come to prefer VRBO rentals over hotels whenever possible. This was a perfect location for quickly getting to campus for training classes while also being within close driving distance to several restaurants and shopping when needed. Yet I could also just relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the location or take a leisurely walk if desired. The duplex was perfectly arranged with everything I needed during the stay in Anchorage and would comfortably allow 1-2 more people. I will definitely stay again! Highly recommended.

Lovely cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

This is my second stay at the cabin. It is always a great place to stay at when I visit Anchorage. Michele is quick to respond to any inquiries I have and is easy to communicate with. The cabin itself is clean and cozy and comes equipped with many of the little things you don't think you need till you need it (toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, Tupperware, foil, etc.) We even took advantage of bbqing in the snow! This is first place I look to stay at when I visit Alaska and plan to make many more trips in the future. Thank you again Michele!

Comfortable and practical.

  • 5 of 5

I just stayed 5 nights at this cozy cabin and everything was just as advertised. I'm familiar with the area and the location is within a working class neighborhood with an elementary school one block away. The property is fenced and looks well maintained. Prior to the stay, communication was quick and detailed, all questions answered. I was met by Michele during my first day in the cabin and she was welcoming and informative. I was in town with my dog and she had dog bowls and a treat for my dog ready in the cabin. :) The size of the space was perfect for myself and my pooch. If needed, another person would have fit comfortably. I felt at ease in the home and in the neighborhood, the house rules were clear and the home was equipped with everything I could need during my stay. I would recommend this cabin to family/friends. Thank you Michele!
