Rum Cay Unspoiled Jewel Of The Bahamas (great for private Pilot's)

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen, Great View, Very Private

This is a great 2 bedroom home on one of the most beautiful and secluded islands in the Bahamas. The native population of Rum Cay is about 75 with a dozen or so vacations houses so if you're looking for casinos and night clubs you may want to look for something in Nassau. If you're looking for a peaceful secluded place to really get away from it all this is the place for you.

For a long time Rum Cay was off the beaten path and only visited by the lucky few (mostly brush pilots and sailors). Today thanks to a new airport that can accommodate large aircraft and access to reasonably priced charter flights, this unspoiled jewel of the Bahamas is accessible to all.

Thanks to GPS navigation and the new large paved runway Rum Cay is the perfect getaway for private pilots (even new pilots flying the Bahamas is easy these days). Ask about AOPA discount.

This 2 bedroom homes has 2 twin beds in each bedroom that can be pushed together to make double beds when needed. This home is perfect for 2 couples, or a family.

What makes this cottage unique

Pristine, beaches, living reefs, great bone fishing, and most of all privacy.

At this time Rum Cay has just a small population and is truly the unspoiled jewel of the Bahamas. At night (thanks to very little light pollution) the stars shine like not place we have ever seen, it is like riding on a space ship. Rum Cay has all the modern amenities (commercial power, phone system. Internet, and runway that accommodates commercial traffic) that bring development, come and visit this island in all its natural beauty before the tourist get here.

Private Pilots' Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The Bahamas are renown to be among private pilots’ favorite, island-hoping destinations. And if your goal is to fly away from the more touristic spots don’t look any further than Greg Lambert’s home on Rum Cay! We made a last minute trip in mid-August to The Bahamas from South Florida with a 172 looking for some peace and quiet in the out islands. We were very lucky to find Mr. Lambert’s home in Rum Cay. Not only did Mr. Lambert’s answered our query within the hour but he also offered us an AOPA discount. Mr. Lambert’s home is a dream cottage fully furnished that leads to a pristine private beach. The scenery is spectacular during the day with the clear and turquoise waters and fine white sand, while at nighttime stars litter the sky. We spent two nights on this paradise island wishing for a longer stay. Rum Cay was badly hit by Hurricane Joaquin in 2015 yet the island is rebuilding strong and hasn’t lost any of its charm. Fella, the home caretaker came to pick us up at the airport and helped us settle in Mr. Lambert’s home. Fella was a lovely and friendly character—just like all of the people we met on the island—and took us on a tour punctuated with fun and interesting facts about the island. While there, make sure to visit the Sand Bar for a fresh drink and home made conch fritters. We certainly can’t wait to make our way back to Mr. Lambert’s in Rum Cay!

Rum Cay Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent just over a week at the Conch House on Rum Cay. Pat and Earl Lambert, our hosts on Rum Cay, picked us up at the airport and made every effort to get us settled in to our cottage. They made us feel like family, and were the best hosts you could hope for, giving us tips on snorkeling spots and adventures, helping us get a golf cart to go wandering, loaning us bikes for cruising around, even sharing a drink in the evening, fresh fish and a loaf of fresh baked bread (thanks, Pat!) The house was cool and always breezy, the temperature was just right, and the water was always flowing and hot when you wanted a good shower. There was plenty of fresh water to drink and all the appliances and gear you could want for cooking. Rum Cay is a special place, with some amazing snorkeling spots and great shelling and exploring possibilities. We went exploring with Pat and Earl (thanks, Earl!) to remote parts of the island, and got out on our own with the golf cart and bikes. Bring some books and plenty of food, enjoy island life - and leave your formal wear at home!

Secluded Bahamas spot, private beach!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 spent 2 weeks here over the holidays and it doesn't get any better that this for a private beach stay! The house is in excellent condition, with all the amenities you need for a stay on a remote Bahamian island (full kitchen and laundry, hot and cold water, floor plan that lets the breeze right through the house). The owner lives right next door, and is always around to take care of anything you need. The fishing is fantastic, and the water was perfect. We spent more than half of our days on the beach, and it was a rare day to run into someone out there! We're already planning on coming back next year
