An excellent villa maintained to a high standard in a delightful seaside town

  • 5 of 5

We have just completed a one week stay in Madalena's beautiful villa. A party of ten including four grandchildren we found ourselves to be brilliantly accommodated in a villa that bore all the marks of Madalena's interior design skills. It was simply a wonderful place to be.

On the practical side there were ample bedrooms, all with ensuite, an excellent lounge, kitchen and dining room. A small pool in the garden got some use despite the cool weather.

The town of Cascais makes a great holiday base.

We would recommend this destination without reserve. Madalena is a warm and responsive host

All amenities and service were excellent. Thank you for all your kindness and hospitality. I really hope to be back someday.

Best Of Cascais

Here in Cascais, the lights shine through the night. They are not ghosts. They are guides. Old lighthouses that once guided the boats of old fishermen to not be lost on the sea. Today these Lighthouses and Strongholds are also a passing point. With or without lights, the legends still shining through day and night, they call you to this small village.

The place where the first sign of electricity in Portugal appeared. The place of lost loves. The place where the sea kisses the land and the sand looks like gold. The place where even magic can be possible. And if you listen to the stories behind buildings, rocks and walls you will find put the truth behind the legend.

To tell stories, Paula Rego was the one. She painted the fairy tale stories in a way no one did before. Mixing the beauty and the dark side of the villains, her paintings are now available at the A Casa das Hitórias de Paula Rego – Paula Rego’s House of Stories.

But not everything is about fairy tales. Many important people from Portuguese History passed by Cascais. Actually, the Cidadela de Cascais was a favourite place for some Kings and the famous Castro Guimarães Counts left their palace to become the Museum of Castro Guimarães Counts.

Music and the sea still be a part of Cascais. Both Museums, Portuguese Music Museum and The Museum of the Sea are the meeting point for the most important part of our culture. Without music and the sea the Festival of the Sea would never be possible.

And because culture is happening all year long, not only for festival, the Cultural Center of Cascais is one of the best places to enjoy it after you have remembered the best moments of the Village at the Memory Space.

Just keep the journey. There is always a time for a little bit of reflexion. Feel the silence of the Saint Sebatian Chapel from 17thcentury with an huge collection of art and rooms for concerts and seminars.

Is the sun already calling you? So lets go to one of the Golden Beaches, passing by the legendary Boca do Inferno and visiting the first Tide Gauge in Portugal. After swimming other sports are available. Prepare yourself for Golfing, Kart or even Surfing. Do you feel wild again?

The perfect end of the night comes with a drink. We have heard Hemingway is waiting… is it possible? Come to the Marine and you will find out by yourself.
