Beautiful Home W/Hot Tub, View and Private Redwood Grove!

Bedrooms 5
Space 2,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

Large house w/hot tub in redwoods. Sleeps 10. Peaceful setting close to town.

This beautiful home is located in one of Arcata's best locations on a hilltop at the edge of town with a sunset bay view. It's close to town, yet removed enough for quiet and privacy. The great room is spacious and comfortable with a wall of windows overlooking the majestic redwoods. One of the most intriguing features is the unique hot tub solarium with surround views of the redwoods. This is a wonderful space for relaxing family vacations and reunions.

Sleeping arrangements include two queen beds, two full beds, and three twin beds. There are two couches and plenty of floor space for pads. Three bedrooms are on the street level with one large family room downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped w/oven, stove, microwave, full refrigerator and freezer, and pots and pans.

Arcata is central to all that the north coast has to offer: Redwood National and State Parks, Fern Canyon, Trinidad beaches, the Lost Coast, and several pristine rivers and mountain ranges. Ask us about local tours and inland river rafting/kayaking.

You may review short videos of Arcata Redwood Vacation Rental on you tube or vimeo and more pictures on our Facebook page, Arcata Redwood Hideaway. Come soak in the hot tub solarium as you gaze out into your own private grove of giant redwoods and you will be glad you made the choice of this magical place.

About Mitzi Reed and Sam Camp

We are an adventurous couple who love to travel and explore~ Sam, a photographer, Mitzi, a masseuse/herbal wellness consultant and river guide. Please inquire if you're interested in a massage and/or river rafting trip. We spend most of our summers on the Trinity River, and enjoy being in tropical places in the winters.

Mitzi Reed and Sam Camp purchased this house in 2006

Why Mitzi Reed and Sam Camp chose North Coast California

This house feels like a private redwood retreat, overlooking a redwood grove on two sides and the Arcata Bay in the west. It is in a quiet neighborhood, private, yet close to town. The backyard is a redwood grove, and the front yard gets enough sun for the garden. It really feels like a treehouse retreat in the redwood canopy, yet it is close to everything you'd want to see and do on the beautiful north coast.

What makes this house unique

Relaxation is probably it's best benefit. We love coming here to cool off on the coast in the summer. The great room is spacious, with picture windows facing the redwoods. Best of all is the relaxing hot tub, where you can open all the windows in the solarium to feel like you're outside with the big trees. The room feels like a treehouse. A great place to relax after exploring the local national and state redwood and beach parks. Five to ten minute drive to shops and restaurants, but without the noise of downtown.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We absolutely loved the house. Perfect in every way! It was incredible

and we all were in awe of the view and all that there was to offer. We

enjoyed our family reunion so much and I am grateful to you and Mitzi

for the opportunity to have it in such a lovely place."

Beautiful Home W/Hot Tub, View and Private Redwood Grove!
average rating of 4.142857 based on 16 reviews

Our stay was very comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This house is more beautiful than the pictures. The bedrooms are simple, the furniture comfortable, the kitchen has very nice space and amenities, and the setting is perfect. Love the hot tub room and the living room space. It was easy to find, tucked in a nice neighborhood, and the driveway was easy to park in. There are helpful signs around the house, and clear instructions so one need not fuss. The Community Forest was very close by for great hiking. This is a well loved family home.

Mixed feelings

  • 3 of 5

Aloha - First the good. The setting of the home was superb. The pictures of the trees surrounding the property are accurate. The hot tub was all you could ask for. The owners were responsive and positive. The important stuff... to me.

The negative - For some people this would not be a good choice. My daughter-in-law is a bit picky and she was uncomfortable in the home. A lot of the furnishings, especially in the family room look like they've been picked up at a garage sale. Then some of the details we've come to expect when using VRBO homes were lacking. Little things like no paper towel, no extra lining for the garbage cans, having to go into the garage to use the washer/dryer, then having to leave a garage door open to vent them. Like I say these are fairly minor details, although a bit surprising.

Overall, I would stay there again, my daughter-in-law would not. Ergo, 3 stars.

It was just right for our family.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. We are a local family that had some relatives come for Thanksgiving. It was so nice to have a big house for all of us to gather in. The open layout of the upstairs and kitchen was great for hanging out with the family. Some folks liked the hot tub. Overall the place was great and we would rent it again the next time the family visits.

The house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and is a little hard to find, but most folks have phone with map app.

It was clean and had some nice photo art. Furniture and beds were fine, not top-of line, but totally fine for a rental house.

It seemed the back and forth email took a little time, so it was good we booked a while in advance. It all worked out, and like I said, we would rent it again.

Birthday celebration

  • 1 of 5

I don't know why the other reviews were so raving about this property. I knew we were in trouble when we drove into the driveway and it looked like the house was in foreclosure. The pictures are very deceiving. House was not very clean, microwave above oven was broken, oven did not close, ice maker didn't work, windows had cobwebs, no closet doors in any of the bedrooms, the heater vent in the "dining" room was broken and my cousin almost fell from her chair when the leg of the chair went into the vent, TV didn't work, radio didn't work, had to open garage door to use the dryer because dryer was not vented. My brother was with us and he is a California contractor. He noticed MANY code violations at this house. This house should not be a rental. If it is continued to be a rental, the owner should bring it up to code and make a LOT of improvements. Go look elsewhere.

Owner's Response: We appreciate all comments and suggestions to help make our rental a better place to stay. Some of the complaints were true, and have been corrected and spelled out in the following list. It states clearly in our rental agreement that we have Netflix and Apple TV, not full cable. The yard has been spruced up and is now more welcoming. Changed to a new professional cleaning service, the house is spotless! New countertop microwave replaced the old built-in microwave. Closing mechanism has been installed on the oven door. Replaced heater vents. Corrected dryer ventilation. Additionally, there are new improvements and will be upgrades from time to time to help improve the overall experience. The satisfaction of our guests is of utmost importance to us. To the people who wrote the review, please accept our apologies.

Fun wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of friends in Arcata for a wedding (not of one of the people staying in the house, but a mutual friend). The place was perfect for accommodating a large group. It is beautiful, with a fully equipped kitchen and a hot tub. Very nice location surrounded by redwoods. I highly recommend it.

60th birthday celebrations

  • 1 of 5

When we first drove up we were taken back by the unkept yard (high weeds) When stepping inside it was not at all like the photos. It was not very clean, floors dirty, microwave broken, oven was filthy, cobwebs in windows, many without screens, some beds seemed to have dirty sheets. etc. Oh and no TV that had reception. Well we had to make the best of it; you cannot find another place in a moments notice. We did call and make them come back and clean while we took a ride. The neighborhood/court all took care of their yards, but not this place. Not worth what we had to pay!

This house is perfect for visitors who want to see the REDWOODS! It is IN the redwoods, and it has a view! Right at the south edge of town, the world famous bird watching destination, the Arcata Marsh, offers short, easy hiking trails. It is a five minute drive from the house and can be seen from our bay view window. Our coastline offers pristine beaches, where agates can be found and sea life can be seen. Redwood National Park, Fern Canyon, The Lost Coast, Trinidad and the Trinity River, are just a few of several nearby places to visit. Arcata is central to it all, and it has much to offer in the way of small town entertainment and cafes and restaurants. Arcata has a great COOP and a lively all-organic Saturday Farmer's Market. The old theater is revived, now the Arcata Theater Lounge, offering a variety of entertainment for young and old alike. Enjoy some sushi, organic, vegetarian meals, gourmet homemade ice cream or New York Bagels in Arcata.
