About Carolyn

We have been visiting this beautiful area of the country for many years mainly our riding motorcycles at DEALS GAP (THE DRAGON) and the beautiful challenging mountain roads nearby.

Carolyn purchased this lodge in 2009

Why Carolyn chose Tennessee

We enjoy the natural beauty of this area and feel so relaxed when we arive. Having stayed locally in private cabins we decided this was the place for us to return year after year with our family & friends escaping the heat & humidity of Florida. We love the dramatic changes each season brings to the Mountain scenery and all the area has to offer for all types. We have thoroughly enjoyed the last two winters snow skiing at OBER Gatlinburg (perfect for beginners and intermediates). We hope you're able to make SUNSET LODGE a regular retreat from the fast paced world we find ourselves nowadays.

What makes this lodge unique

If theres just two of you you'll enjoy being on one level and the spa bath in the master bathroom is ideal for massaging away aches & pains. If there's more the privacy of having a further 2 king master bedrooms with private ensuite bathrooms and living room/loft on the upper level works well. All have space to stretch out and relax.. The 4th family bathroom off the main level living area is handy too as is the Desk Nook for those who wish to bring thier lap tops, write their journals or just stay organized. We have furnished the lodge for comfort and convenience. Keeping the natural feel of the Mountains with its 'all wood ' construction (no drywall here), Ledgestone fireplace, Travertine stone/ wood floors and modern bamboo blinds it feels wonderful.

Sky Harbor : a sought after mountain location/resort with paved roads (steep) Its so peaceful here yet only a short drive to everything Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg have to offer.

Beautiful Place, Scary Drive

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is beautiful and has top notch appliances, bedding, and decor. You probably won't find any place that is nicer than this cabin. The jetted tub inside and hot tub outside should please just about anyone. The property managers do a really nice job. The towels are folded into swans, etc to greet you just like on a cruise ship. It is not totally secluded as there are 3 cabins within eyesight, which was fine with us. We are not into being hermits. The roads are paved but unless you frequent the mountains often, you might find it a good idea to find this cabin in the daylight. Further, if you are not a mountain person, understand this cabin is on top of the mountain. You should have good brakes and good tires and you definitely should not have a trailer attached. There are multiple ways to get to this cabin. It is much less stressful to go through Gatlinburg, go past Food City on Parkway and turn left at the light. That is a the road with many, many arts and crafts stores and few good restaurants. We considered this a "back route". Do not go toward Pigeon Forge and take the route off that main road. It will scare non mountain people half to death. Your GPS might say it is a bit shorter or something but that is meaningless because you will drive so slow on the twisted, steep roads. Even on the good road, you will need to keep your vehicle in 2nd and 3rd gear. On the front road, you will not be able to see the road in front of you at times. You will have "infinity hood". Although it's listed as Sevierville, it is not in Sevierville. The address totally confused local folks. Trust me. Take the back route. It will save you time and white knuckles, not to mention there are cool shops along the way. This cabin is a great cabin for staying in. I don't think it is one for hiking around. The brush is dense and the terrain is steep. If you want to hike, drive through Gatlinburg toward Cherokee, NC. There are beautiful trails all along the way. For whitewater rafting, we used Nantahala Outdoor Center and rafted the Pigeon Forge. You won't run out of things to do. The owner is very nice and communicates often and takes very good care of this property.

Loved everything!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a cabin pre-holiday getaway. The Sunset Lodge was amazing! The cabin was secluded enough to enjoy the mountains and feel remote yet a quick drive to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. There are taxi services available in the area which allowed us to enjoy the nightlife. Many others mentioned a "scary" drive to the property. If you want a mountain cabin, you have to drive up a mountain.

The Christmas decorations were a nice touch. The beds are amazing! The decorations are adorable. There were also CDs to listen to and boards games for the nights you want to stay in and relax by the fire.

We have booked several properties through VRBO and Carloyn provided us with the best experience thus far. She was available anytime by text and quickly responded.

Thanks again for a fantastic vacation!

Great place, great host

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the sunset lodge for three nights. I could not say anything else than awesome. Three bedrooms with temperpedic mattress. Everything was well set before we arrived. The outside needed a little moping. But the inside was very clean and pleasant. The owner was super nice and was very prompt in answering our questions. I would definitely recommend this place and will go again when I get a chance. Only problem is reaching there up the hill. If you are going for the first time its better to go in the daytime. In the night it is a bit difficult to find the place. GPS took me to some other place. Its would be better if a bigger name plate is kept so that people can easily see it. I am very happy and we came back with really good memories. Thanks for having us.

Nice cabin

  • 4 of 5

We thought the cabin was really nice. We saw a bear out back. That was pretty cool to the kids and the adults. We only give it 4 stars because the road going up to the cabin was scary to say the least. When we went up the first time, it was raining and our 4 wheel drive truck wheels did lots of spinning. We did find that taking powdermill road was the best way up.

Vacay with the fam

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was as beautiful as the pictures show. It's spacious and well decorated.

It's a great location situated between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge just minutes to National Park or other local attractions.

The owner was prompt and polite in correspondence. Overall a great experience!

Family trip

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week at this wonderful cabin, grandparents, brother in law and sister-in-law, and one child and two dogs. It had everything we needed, beautiful to sit outside, wonderfully decorated, comfortable beds. It is a drive up a mountain but so peaceful. Quick drive to restaurants and grocery close to the national Park. I would definitely stay here again.
