My friends and I rented this house for a summer weekend getaway in Tahoe. We chose it based on its ability to accommodate everyone (at least it had lots of beds), and the presence of a hot tub and a bbq. I called before arrival to specifically ask if the hot tub was working and had been cleaned (was told yes) and to ask about the type of grill and if we needed to bring any charcoal or propane (was told it was a charcoal grill, had to buy our own coals). I decided to wait on that until arrival, since in one of the pictures I noticed later that there is clearly a propane grill there.
When we arrived, there was most definitely a propane grill with enough gas (appreciated, but not what I was told), and the hot tub was not working. The check-in packet listed a code for the hot tub, so my friends and I searched everywhere outside and inside the house for some mysterious keypad to enter the code to get the hot tub to start working. In the process, we discovered so many cobwebs inside and out that it was clear no one had cleared them for quite a long time!
In any case, we gave up trying to get the hot tub to work for the night and called the property management company in the morning. Was told that the code is usually for a lock that's on the hot tub, but there was no lock on this one as I was able to open it fine. They did send someone out to look at the hot tub who was able to reset and restart it only after using a crowbar to pry off panels that were hiding the controls! Definitely not something we would have done on our own, and I was especially irritated that I had called specifically to ask about the working condition the previous day. All conversations with the management team were unpleasant, as they made us feel like we were inconveniencing them for calling.
Overall, the house was good for its large capacity for a good price, but it was dated, dirty, and we had unpleasant interactions with the management team.
Oh, and we did have an encounter with two bears the second night where one of them wandered in the front gate and scared my friend who was sitting out there! They stuck around for a couple of hours before moseying on down the street. Recommend keeping the gates closed if you do decide to stay here!
We had a terrible experience with this property and even worst with the property management /owner team in Tahoe from Coldwell bankers. Their team was not helpful, non-courteous and insulting when it came to dealing with a problem. To the extent it fell on deaf ears that this property literally put my family at a health risk. It ruined our family reunion while I had people joining me from across the globe.
Here is a list of things which went wrong:
Health Risk/ Hazard:
The property posed a health risk with blood stains in different areas of the property including blinds, comforters and carpet.
There are nails sticking out of the patio on 2nd floor and some on the deck.
The water temperature fluctuated so much in the shower that it nearly burnt me and many of the family members.
Un-Hygienic living conditions:
There were webs in so many places in the property, including hallways but most disturbingly on the chandelier above the dinning table. Table tops were not cleaned and carpet was really dirty
Windows are dirty.
Discomfort/ InConvenience :
Beds are in bad shape and squeaky. I literally came back with a backache and had to take a day off to recover from it.
Lights were not functioning, making it dangerous to enter the house. At least 8 of the bulbs were not functioning.
Windows are dirty and did not open. We had trouble getting any ventilation in some rooms on the 2nd fllor.
Hot tub non functional
Cook top was functioning partially.
Bathroom doors would not lock
The moment we entered the property we saw the issues. We repeatedly called the office which was still open but got no response from property management during working hours. I drove to the office to ask them and he just said he tried but can get no response from his maintenance crew or cleaning crew. Very conveniently he refused to give us anyway to contact him and refused to escalate to his manager.
Stay away from this property or more importantly from Coldwell Bankers managed properties. They are rude!!
