Swanton Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths. Sleeps 4. Dog friendly! Parking: 2 car maximum.

Deep Creek Lake is listed in 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE! (US and Canada)

Looking for a getaway in Maryland?

The Birds’ Nest is a tastefully decorated, romantically secluded lake-view vacation home at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. It’s an enchanting choice for a special occasion: honeymoon, wedding anniversary, girls’ weekend, or just a quiet escape.

Summer rentals run from Sunday to Sunday.

You bring your lovebird; The Birds' Nest will provide the atmosphere!

Nestled among tall oaks and lush rhododendrons, this tastefully decorated, 2-bedroom home is conveniently located at 296 State Park Road for year-round accessibility. It is 0.6 miles from Deep Creek Lake State Park and approximately 6 miles from The Wisp Ski Area. The charming little town of Oakland is about 5 miles away.

The lakefront, across the road from the property, offers one of the best views of the lake — the sunsets and star-watching are magical! You may swim or launch your kayak from here, though there is no dock facility.

The downstairs of The Birds' Nest has a well-equipped kitchen, one bathroom, a living room with a propane fireplace insert, a study area with WiFi access for your laptop computer, and a bedroom (double bed). Upstairs is a large bedroom (queen-size bed and a futon) with a sitting area overlooking the woods, a walk-in closet, a half-bath with washer and dryer, and a surprise nightlight! A flat-screen television with satellite connection, a DVD player (with video library), and a CD player are located in the living room downstairs.

High-quality bed linens and towels are supplied at no extra charge; bring your own toothbrush!

Relax in the sunken hot tub in a very private resort-like setting after a day of outdoor activities.

Enjoy the landscaping and seasonal waterfall on the property.

The deck offers a view of the lake and has a picnic table with a gas grill. There is a fire-ring outside The Birds’ Nest for toasting marshmallows and telling tall tales!

We welcome your house-trained family dog, too. Fee required per animal. There is a new dog park beside the HART For Animals facility in McHenry which is free for use.

Wild animals love this location and visit regularly. We do ask, however, that you do not feed the bears!

Our goal is to fulfill the need for a superior rental vacation home that is not a “McMansion”! The house is 900 square feet of well-planned space with high-quality furnishings. It sleeps four people comfortably, with separation between the bedrooms for privacy.

Keywords: cabin, cottage, lake front, lake view, cozy, romantic, secluded, getaway, escape, relax, intimate, pet-friendly, washer and dryer, hot tub, deck, fireplace, fire ring, fully equipped, WiFi, Christmas and seasonal decorations, value, discount.

Clean as a whistle, cozy and comfortable. It was a great get-away-from-it-all place. I recommend it.

Owner's Response: So glad your family enjoyed The Birds' Nest, Jeannie. The new floor covering will be installed next week. The bright red sofa is here and waiting to be put in place. The chairs will be arriving soon! I think you will be delighted by the updates on your next visit!

it was perfect.

  • 5 of 5

the bird's nest was the perfect place for us to have our girl's weekend. We loved the hot tub, the location, the fireplace, everything. It is perched high enough on the hillside that it had a lovely view. Polly, the owner, was so sweet and attentive and even shared with us the history of the property.

We went hiking and attended the wine festival, but most of the time we were just enjoying each other's company in this lovely, cozy home.

We will be back next year!

Owner's Response: It is always a delight to share the story of The Birds' Nest with guests. This fall will see some changes to this special little cottage. New floor covering and some replacement furniture are on order. I am delighted that these four friends found everything they needed for their girls' reunion. It will be great to welcome them back next year!

Owner's Response: So glad The Birds' Nest offered the things you wanted. Pleased, too, that your husband played on two of the local golf courses. We hope to see both of you and your pet, Charlie, here again at some future date!

PERFECT Vacation Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough wonderful things about The Birds' Nest! I am still missing it! We were looking to "get away from it all" and we did. We had the most relaxing time swimming, hiking and kayaking. My favorite activity was sitting on the deck with my book and a cup of coffee and listening to nature. The Birds' Nest comes equipped with everything you could possibly need on a vacation -- just bring yourself! Very clean and cozy with all the modern amenities. While there you have the illusion of being out in the middle of nowhere when in reality everything (restaurants/markets/shops) are 5-10 minutes away. There are many activities within a short drive which was very nice! We brought our black lab who absolutely LOVED it! The state park is a short walk from the cottage with many hiking trails -- which we did every day. Or walk down the driveway to the lake and swim and kayak and come back and relax in the hot tub! Polly is a true gem and will answer any questions you may have! We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Delighted that The Birds' Nest filled all your needs for the perfect vacation, Karen. So glad you took advantage of everything that is offered. A vehicle is needed to get here but it can have a vacation while its owners are enjoying themselves doing the things you listed right from this spot! We hope you will return for another dose of fun and relaxation!

Lovely Place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Birds' Nest. Wish we could have stayed longer. Everything was right at your fingertips. No need to bring anything with you except food, clothing and any personel items that you might want. The owner was a very nice lady and we had the opportunity to sit and talk with her for a few hours while we were there. The Birds' Nest is pet friendly and the owner invited our dog inside her home as well. He is a rescue dog and felt right at home in her house. She lives close by so anytime we had a question she was available. Definitely more personable than a hotel. So glad we stayed there. We enjoyed the hot tub, cooking on the grill and just relaxing indoors. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and hope to return sometime in the future.

Owner's Response: I truly enjoy guests stopping in my home to say hello. So many of them have shown an interest in the story of The Birds’ Nest and have been amazed by the photos taken before its reincarnation! We are certainly pet friendly and our rescued animals (Maggie – dog – and three cats) welcome pets next door at The Birds’ Nest. Thank you for choosing to stay here Dawn, Dan and Buddy. We will look forward to your next visit.

Bird's Nest

  • 4 of 5

Nice place to spend some time. Weather didn't really cooperate, but we found lots to do. Lots of info provided by the owner, a very nice and helpful lady who makes sure you have what you need without crowding you. Hot tub is great, just don't overdo it like I did one night. If you are into Starbucks type coffee, Trader's is the only place for you closer than Morgantown. Overall a great place to relax. Would definitely go back there. Believe all the good reviews of this place, they are all true. Thanks for a good time Polly. We will keep you in mind when booking our vacations.

Owner's Response: I am delighted The Birds' Nest provided a comfortable and convenient location for your vacation, Jen and Jim. Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA, is just 55 miles away. The setting brings back many emotional memories of that fateful day. I am glad you visited it. Enjoy the remainder of the summer.
