Looking for a getaway in Maryland?

The Birds’ Nest is a tastefully decorated, romantically secluded lake-view vacation home at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. It’s an enchanting choice for a special occasion: honeymoon, wedding anniversary, girls’ weekend, or just a quiet escape.

Summer rentals run from Sunday to Sunday.

You bring your lovebird; The Birds' Nest will provide the atmosphere!

Nestled among tall oaks and lush rhododendrons, this tastefully decorated, 2-bedroom home is conveniently located at 296 State Park Road for year-round accessibility. It is 0.6 miles from Deep Creek Lake State Park and approximately 6 miles from The Wisp Ski Area. The charming little town of Oakland is about 5 miles away.

The lakefront, across the road from the property, offers one of the best views of the lake — the sunsets and star-watching are magical! You may swim or launch your kayak from here, though there is no dock facility.

The downstairs of The Birds' Nest has a well-equipped kitchen, one bathroom, a living room with a propane fireplace insert, a study area with WiFi access for your laptop computer, and a bedroom (double bed). Upstairs is a large bedroom (queen-size bed and a futon) with a sitting area overlooking the woods, a walk-in closet, a half-bath with washer and dryer, and a surprise nightlight! A flat-screen television with satellite connection, a DVD player (with video library), and a CD player are located in the living room downstairs.

High-quality bed linens and towels are supplied at no extra charge; bring your own toothbrush!

Relax in the sunken hot tub in a very private resort-like setting after a day of outdoor activities.

Enjoy the landscaping and seasonal waterfall on the property.

The deck offers a view of the lake and has a picnic table with a gas grill. There is a fire-ring outside The Birds’ Nest for toasting marshmallows and telling tall tales!

We welcome your house-trained family dog, too. Fee required per animal. There is a new dog park beside the HART For Animals facility in McHenry which is free for use.

Wild animals love this location and visit regularly. We do ask, however, that you do not feed the bears!

Our goal is to fulfill the need for a superior rental vacation home that is not a “McMansion”! The house is 900 square feet of well-planned space with high-quality furnishings. It sleeps four people comfortably, with separation between the bedrooms for privacy.

Cozy & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My two sisters and I stayed at the Bird's nest for several days earlier this month. It was perfect for us & provided everything we needed. Several of our nights there were quite cold, but the cottage was warm & cozy. It was fun to drink wine by the fire we made in the fire pit right outside. A special treat was visiting with our hostess, Polly.

Owner's Response: The Birds' Nest was a great place for these ladies (three sisters) to get together. The cottage is furnished and equipped in an attempt to provide everything needed for a fantastic vacation. The hot tub and fire pit make it especially appealing on these cool, autumn nights. It is less than a mile to Deep Creek Lake State Park and The Discovery Center where there are live raptor birds and a fascinating interactive museum. Thank you choosing The Birds' Nest!

Nice little getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Polly for letting us stay in the Bird's Nest! We had a great relaxing quiet time. Although the cold/rainy weather didn't cooperate, it was exactly what we needed to disconnect from the everyday routine. This place has everything you may need and more. And talk about that hot tub!!! It doesn't get any more romantic than being with your honey hearing and watching the rain drop from it. We used the hot tub for long hours everyday we were there. Thank you again for being so patient, responsive and flexible with all of our questions and requests. We really do appreciate it and hope to come back again.

Relaxing escape

We enjoyed our peaceful 2 night escape at the Bird’s Nest. Excellent location, and the comfy cabin has everything you need and is well cared for by the owner Polly. I will miss my morning coffee with a view. Will definitely return.

Owner's Response: It is always encouraging to hear that The Birds' Nest helped make your Garrett County vacation a success! The location of the cottage and everything it offers (cozy cottage, hot tub, fire pit, etc.) is fantastic. We work hard to make it truly a home away from home. Thank you for staying here. We look forward to your next visit!

Ideal

  • 5 of 5

The house, location and hospitality created the perfect place for us. We were looking for a quiet get-away and we felt very comfortable nestled among the trees. It was also wonderful getting to know Polly who was a gracious host and helped us in any way she could without interfering with our week. We look forward to coming up as many times as possible in the future.

Relaxing weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent the long Columbus Day weekend at Polly’s property in Swanton. We had a wonderful time! The area is secluded and quiet, and the house is immaculate and well-maintained. We spent every night around the fire or in the hot tub, it was extremely relaxing! I must say we were sad to leave on Monday but we would love a return trip!

Owner's Response: What a perfect location The Birds' Nest has for the Savageman Triathlon! And, yes, the hot tub must have felt great after a day of swimming, running and biking. In addition to its fantastic location, the cottage provides a feeling of home from home. Lots of unexpected things, not usually found in a vacation rental, are right there for the guests' convenience and pleasure. I look forward to your next visit!
