Our family has been vacationing in Hilton Head every summer for over 10 years and we have fallen in love with the island! We have finally gotten to build our dream home and are excited to share it with you!
Mackie Dowell purchased this house in 2014
We have stayed in every plantation on the island, and love this hidden area! It is so nice to be able to drive to the house without having to fight the plantation traffic, guard gates and extra fees. It is perfectly positioned mid-island so it is easy to get to shopping, restaurants, golf, tennis and the beach! Our house is only rented out select weeks a year, so it isn't going to have that 'rental home' feel where everything is worn out and in need of TLC. We know you will love it as much as we do!
Completely custom home 300 steps to the beach! Chaplan Park is just as close~ complete with lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, baseball fields and bathroom facilities! There are 3 oceanfront restaurant/bars within a mile of our home, which makes it convenient to grab lunch out while out on the beach. Biking to popular Shelter Cove and mini golf is also a breeze!
This vacation home was perfect for our group of 5 couples! The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to cook dinner. The outdoor space was perfect , with both sun and shaded areas available. We loved the big round kitchen table so we could all sit together and share meals. The location was just a short walk to the beach and was perfect! I look forward to coming back to this home. Owners are wonderful and responsive!!
We celebrated our 50th with two daughters, their husbands, and 6 grandchildren ages 6 to 16. A beautiful house and pool and fun game room. A short walk to the beach which was lovely. You don't need to be a golfer to enjoy Hilton Head as there is a lot to do and staying at this house was perfect. It is better than the pictures show which were beautiful. Alexanders was a great restaurant for our special night out.
Mackie made sure we had what we needed and I hope we have the opportunity to return.
There were 10 of us. Myself and my husband, my in-laws who are around 70, and 6 kids ages 10, 14, 14, 17, 20, and 23. This house is like home - with all of the upgrades and amenities that you would expect for the cost of a weekly rental a few blocks from the path to the beach. The beds were all super comfortable except the bunk beds. One of our 14 year old boys said it was uncomfortable so he ended up sleeping in a king with his sister. No big deal though.
The pool as well as the ocean is pretty warm. Not exactly refreshing, but is was in the 90's. A couple of the pool inflatables leaked so we bought a couple more. They don't last long. No pump at the house so you need to use your own lungs. Sonos sound system was awesome! You can play music either outside only or everywhere.
You can drive anywhere but we had an RV so bike rentals saved the day. Restaurants (the good ones anyway) had several hour waits on Friday night. Probably because it's the tourists last night of vacation. Everyone checks in on Saturday so the road into HHI is a nightmare of traffic. And everyone checks out on Saturday so all the restaurants are super busy on Friday nights. The road out of town Saturday morning was fine though.
The most fun thing we did was rent a boat with a captain and go tubing. My daughter lost a fingernail (the whole thing - yikes!) and we ended up at the ER that night because she was in pain. Note to teenage girls... Do not get acrylic nails before participating in water activities. Ouch!
The beach is not one of the more crowded areas so you have plenty of space. It is a short walk from the house. We thought it was a little too far for going back and forth during the day, so once we were there we stayed until we felt like we'd had enough of sun.
We never used the game room. It's in the basement and everyone preferred to be upstairs. We always seem to gather around the kitchen! It was also a little warm down there - maybe it isn't air conditioned. Not sure. The neighbors are very close so you will get all of the noise if it is loud.
This was our first time in HHI and it is beautiful. We loved all the pine trees and wide, soft sand beaches. We saw just as many Dolphins (if not more) than we saw last year when we vacationed in Marco Island. The island is very clean and well maintained. Very little diversity here. Not saying that's good or bad just depends on what you want. Apparently there is a huge number of tourists from Ohio. Go Bucks! :)
The house is beautiful and stocked with everything you need!! We will be renting here again.
Our family group has been vacationing at Atlantic and Gulf coast beaches for many years. Most often, we try to book a house near the beach for our stay as we did again this year at HHI. I must say that our beach area house this year gave us the very best accommodations that we have experienced to date. The owner (Mackie) thought of literally everything needed to make our stay enjoyable. The house was new, comfortable, spacious, clean and very well equipped, including access to everything from beach and pool toys for the kids to a well furnished kitchen and other amenities. It helped make our stay very enjoyable and memorable. Thanks for a job well done!
Burkes Beach is located between Palmetto Dunes and Port Royal. Easy access with a gorgeous beach!
