Overview

About the property

2 BR, 1 Bath, with sleeping loft too - sleeps 6. Close to spa & paddle-boarding

Top rated Lake Austin spa is minutes away, rent paddle boards at the park down the road, or paddle our kayaks to the nature preserve across the lake and hike up to a waterfall. Our sand volleyball court is regulation size, we have a water trampoline, and diving board. But the serenity of this property may lead you to R&R and forgo all that activity - the screened in porch with antique iron day beds and desk beckons as a writer's retreat. Custom built with cedar flooring and rugged beams. Feels like middle of nowhere but great restaurants (sushi, Mexican, Steiner Ranch Steakhouse) are in the neighborhood, famous sunsets at the Oasis on Lake Travis 7 miles away, and 30 minutes from downtown Austin.

About Shelly Priebe

I grew up in a dreadfully nondescript area of Illinois (cornfields) but my parents wanted more than anything to live on the water and even though they earned a modest income as teachers they succeeded! In third grade we moved into a lakefront home in Central Illinois and it was THE gathering place for my friends as I grew up. They gave me the gift of prioritizing a water based lifestyle. Chuck and I bought this property when we got engaged in 1988 and our 4 children ages 22 to 9 relish the lifestyle I did as a child.

Shelly Priebe purchased this house in 1988

Why Shelly Priebe chose Austin

We fell in love with this ethereal part of Lake Austin and bought our home in 1988. It was 2 BR/1Bath with gold shag carpet and we were in heaven. Have added on to our home many times and we built the guest house in 2004 hoping to lure out of state grandparents. We failed at that but have loved being able to host many travelers, church youth retreat weekends, you name it!

What makes this house unique

Every piece of furniture hand picked over time from visits to the semi-annual Round Top antique fair except for the custom made cedar dining table with benches. Nothing matches but everything soothes in this eclectic and comfortable home. Want some activity? A sand volleyball court awaits. Or kayak across the lake and hike up to a waterfall.

Green, beautiful, and just the ticket!

  • 5 of 5

Oh, my goodness. I can't rave about this house enough! Chuck and Shelly's property is absolutely gorgeous! Packed with options, we were able to feel at home and keep 5 kids entertained all weekend. We had easy access to the river, the kayaks, the volleyball court, and a propane grill. While the kids made use of the water trampoline and diving board, we got the chance to have coffee on the deck and sit and chat with Chuck, one of the owners. The cabin was perfect with comfy pillows, an airy and relaxing vibe, and a bunch of small little nuances you can appreciate. I am already hoping we can come back next spring!!

Owner's Response: We loved having this active family. They were on the lake from early morning until late at night. FYI the "river" is technically Lake Austin because it is damned on both ends and is constant level, but it has the serenity and appearance of a peacefully flowing river.

Great vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our grandkids had a blast on the water and loved the cabin. We took our boat and were able to experience beautiful view up and down the river. The owners were very nice and caring. We had a great time.

Owner's Response: We loved having this busy family go go go! Their pontoon boat pulled in and out of "port" throughout the weekend. Our "river" is actually Lake Austin; it is the Colorado River with cold clear water flowing from the bottom of Lake Travis at Mansfield dam about 3 miles up and into Austin's Lady Bird Lake through the Tom Miller dam about 20 miles down. Come back soon Lana!

Great spot to take grandkids or family getaway. House is spacious and clean. Full access to Lake Aus

  • 4 of 5

Shelley and Chuck were fabulous hosts. We felt like part of their family! Grandkids had a ball on water trampoline and swimming in the Lake. Kayaking and fishing for the older kids. For the Moms and grandmom's, Lake Austin spa just down the road. Close to the Oasis restaurant complex on Lake Travis, there are plenty of boat rentals and fishing charters nearby. . We loved it and look forward to future trips.

Owner's Response: We love having guests with such zeal for all the property offers. Don't think the grandkids stopped.....ever. And bringing out our iguana and bearded dragon for show and tell added to their fun - ha! Come back!

Fun and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this place is awesome. From the beautiful lakefront location, to the cute little (but spacious) cabin like home, to the gracious homeowners! The house has everything for a great time on the lake: kayakd, floats, lakefront deck, beach volleyball and when it gets too hot an air conditioned home. This was the perfect, and affordable, getaway for our family!

Unusual tree house feel- out of the norm home

  • 4 of 5

Overall we loved the stay. Don't expect your normal decor but perfect for a get away and feel that you are in a relaxed environment. The beds are full and so not what we are used to but we adjusted. The large living /dining with tons of windows were great. Of course , the point of being there was the Lake Austin water experience which was perfect. Just steps from the house, the dock and water trampoline was such fun. Kyaks and life jackets were the most fun for all. Check out parking if you have more than one vehicle.

Owner's Response: We enjoyed your fun loving family, especially those lively grand-daughters! Yes, as stated there is parking for two vehicles, we always put that on radar. And, we found out that if one of those vehicles is a Winnebago Minnie we have to get creative with parking solutions. The info in the online profile is accurate for the two bedrooms - one full bed and one queen.

Shelly and Chuck exemplify southern hospitality!!

  • 5 of 5

This property was more than accommodating for 5 guys wanting a little R&R but I would also love to return with my wife and kids in the near future! Will highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy more the natural side of Austin yet still be close enough to not miss out on what the city has to offer.

Owner's Response: These guests are welcome back anytime. I'd have to say it was reverse hospitality....with our guests dishing up and sharing some excellent cajun cookin'! Civilization and its amenities have come to us in the 28 years that we have lived here on Lake Austin. We are no longer "in the country." BUT once on property you'd never know that. It feels remote as ever.
