Overview

About the property

2 BR, 1 Bath, with sleeping loft too - sleeps 6. Close to spa & paddle-boarding

Top rated Lake Austin spa is minutes away, rent paddle boards at the park down the road, or paddle our kayaks to the nature preserve across the lake and hike up to a waterfall. Our sand volleyball court is regulation size, we have a water trampoline, and diving board. But the serenity of this property may lead you to R&R and forgo all that activity - the screened in porch with antique iron day beds and desk beckons as a writer's retreat. Custom built with cedar flooring and rugged beams. Feels like middle of nowhere but great restaurants (sushi, Mexican, Steiner Ranch Steakhouse) are in the neighborhood, famous sunsets at the Oasis on Lake Travis 7 miles away, and 30 minutes from downtown Austin.

About Shelly Priebe

I grew up in a dreadfully nondescript area of Illinois (cornfields) but my parents wanted more than anything to live on the water and even though they earned a modest income as teachers they succeeded! In third grade we moved into a lakefront home in Central Illinois and it was THE gathering place for my friends as I grew up. They gave me the gift of prioritizing a water based lifestyle. Chuck and I bought this property when we got engaged in 1988 and our 4 children ages 22 to 9 relish the lifestyle I did as a child.

Shelly Priebe purchased this house in 1988

Why Shelly Priebe chose Lake Austin Village

We fell in love with this ethereal part of Lake Austin and bought our home in 1988. It was 2 BR/1Bath with gold shag carpet and we were in heaven. Have added on to our home many times and we built the guest house in 2004 hoping to lure out of state grandparents. We failed at that but have loved being able to host many travelers, church youth retreat weekends, you name it!

What makes this house unique

Every piece of furniture hand picked over time from visits to the semi-annual Round Top antique fair except for the custom made cedar dining table with benches. Nothing matches but everything soothes in this eclectic and comfortable home. Want some activity? A sand volleyball court awaits. Or kayak across the lake and hike up to a waterfall.

Family Trip

  • 4 of 5

Great lake house retreat for families. It has a beautiful view of the water, and is a great place to wake up and drink coffee on the river. It is conveniently located (about 35 minutes) to the UT campus, as well as other favorite Austin destinations like the Congress Street Bridge to see the bats , and Mt. Bonnell for a fantastic Hill Country hike. They owners are responsive, accommodating, and their son and new puppy are super friendly! It is very difficult to find at night, so try to get there when it is still light outside.

Loved the tree house!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the tree house. It was a super cute and fun place to stay and it's right next to the water. We did have a little trouble parking. We have a big truck and a big boat. You can NOT park a boat and trailer at the house or even drive down that road with a boat/trailer. We found a super nice guy named Tom that let us rent a spot from him for the weekend. I believe it was Steiner ranch storage. Other than that, everything was great and everyone was super nice!

Owner's Response: Loved having you stay, and adding Steiner storage to our list of guests resources was a bonus. Nice surprise that Tom turned out to be the sweet sweet dad of one of my best friends!

Owner's Response: We loved this group and even our neighbor mentioned that this group of guests with scads of kids so full of energy and life made her nostalgic for the decibel level of all the years our kids were growing up on the lake. Good times.

owner and property fantastic

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time in this rental- very neat and decorated in a "woodsy" don't know if that's a word...style. Shelly and Chuck are super friendly and supportive and guided the process to make everything very easy. I will be back.

Thanks

Owner's Response: Appreciate the newly coined decorator term....welcome to "woodsy!" These guests gathered family for a staycation and rally embraced a weekend of fun. One funny story - When I walked outside of my house next door to the property and heard country tunes jamming I commented to my son "Oh, I love their music!" Lucky thing as they were sitting out of line of sight behind a tree not far way. Ha!
