Lynn & Paul
Our Lake Hodges home was the first single family home my husband and I purchased in 1990. Raising two of our three boys in the home was the best upbringing I could have given them. The Del Dios area is truly a unique place that I could let my children explore nature, canoe, kayak and fish with their friends. In 2001 my third son was born and we had to make a decision to remodel or add onto our cute and quaint lake home. We decided to move 1 mile away on the other side of the lake because taking away the integrity of the home was not an option. Our plans are to move back to the lake home once our youngest son moves off to college. Both my husband and myself grew up in San Diego area and attended college here as well. We are excited for this opportunity to open our house up for guests to experience what we have been able to have in this home.
Lynn & Paul purchased this cottage in 1990
Before we had children we purchased a condo in Solana Beach. When our first son was born we decided that it was time to buy a home. My husband was driving his motorcycle and stumbled upon the community of Del Dios "Valley of the Gods". Because of the excellent weather and of course the lake, it felt right. The small town, it's vicinity and a country feeling was so appealing, it wasn't long before we found our home in the community. At first, we were torn about leaving the beach area but soon became impressed with the total appeal. We lived there for 16 years before making the decision to move where we now, still in Del Dios.

From Beaches to Del Mar race track to the San Diego Safari Park to Disneyland to Mexico, the Lake House is the most centralized location available, the house is great too.
The house is half way up a gentle sloping road. It is one of three homes on the street. The living room has 4 giant picture windows that look out to the lake with mountains as the backdrop. It's about 60 yards to the lakes shore with trails that I have walked my dogs, biked, and jogged more times than I can count over the years. Although it is not a large home, it has an open feeling with the kitchen flowing into the living room. We have three decks that surround the house. One of which is off the kitchen which makes a great place to have your morning cup of coffee or watch the moon at night light up the lake. Over the years the other two decks have provided us excellent places to have family barbecues and gatherings. I have done lots of gardening throughout the years in our large yard, where we have a nice area for children to play in. Over the years we have added many different plants and trees that make for a lovely walk through the yard. We have also built a large kennel for pets which will suit visitors with pets needs when your out on adventures.
My husband and I stayed there with our children and two small dogs. We took advantage of the amazing trails around the lake and took the kids for a boat ride around the lake, it was beautiful. We enjoyed or time spent at the Safari Park, San Diego Zoo, Lego Land, Sea World, Disneyland and of course the beaches. They were convienantly located from the house. My husband and I even enjoyed an evening out at the "California Center for the Arts" and saw a play. We would highly recommend this house, and will definitely stay here next time.
I had an amazing stay in this beautiful and cozy house. It is in a great location for all occasions, the town of del Dios is peaceful but still just a short drive to all of San diegos main attractions. The owners take great care of the property, they keep it very clean and offer a full kitchen, dishwasher, and a laundry washer and dryer. I really loved my stay here and recommend it to anyone who wants to see San Diego or even people who are here for business and need a longer stay.
My son and I rented this home for a Spring Break vacation. The area is gorgeous- beautiful lake and mountain views with winding, hilly roads. The area is away from the hustle and bustle and you have a real sense of peace/serenity. The house is quaint and cute- 2 bedroom with modern amenities and comforts. Everything was very clean and we felt at home. There is a nice new BBQ grill, 3 patios for enjoying the amazing weather, fishing poles for the short walk to the lake, and a kayak, as well as satellite TV for unwinding in the evenings. It was a 30 minute drive to San Diego, but only 10 minutes into Escondido to access local shops, movies, mall, etc. We are from Texas and have never been to this area, so we were tourists and toured the USS Midway, the San Diego Zoo (amazing!!), offshore charter fishing, Tijuana, SeaWorld, and the local favorites, all within a short drive. The owners are extremely attentive and overall great people. I would definitely recommend this rental to a small family or couple looking to have some serenity but still close enough to enjoy what the city, beaches, and other attractions have to offer nearby.
Your home exceeded our expectations. Our family visited almost every day with cookouts and drinks overlooking the lake with the full moon rising over the foothills. Just beautiful, relaxing, clean, lovely. We will most definitely be back next year. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.
Great house and location. Minutes from plenty of shopping and restaurants, yet quiet and secluded area. Plenty of activities, close enough for day trips to the beach and all the attractions. House has everything needed for cooking and you can dine and relax on the back patio in plenty of peace and quiet. Hernandez Hideaway also lives up to all the great reviews. Great place and will definitely be back.
Property is well maintained and is conveniently located to our family and to the outdoor activities unique to Lake Hodges. Quiet and serene, we thoroughly enjoyed our month's stay there.
Beautiful area with easy access to Lake Hodges. The house felt like home and was perfect for our stay. It was clean and amazing and would highly recommend to any future vacationers!
