What makes this condo unique

5 miles of uncrowded beach, whale watching in Maalaea Bay which is the Humpback Whale calving and breeding grounds during the winter months (November through April) right in front of the property! Ocean swimming, boogie boarding and surfing (during south swells), and windsurfing! The Pacific Whale foundation is a 10 minute walk from the property so you can walk to your whale watch tour, or take educational classes without a car! Their is a charming local store called 'Tradewinds' 5 minutes by foot, for local meat, fruits and vegetables, liquor. Their fruit cup is a must!

Condo is right on the ocean less than 10 steps to the water’s edge if you could walk off of the 5th floor lanai! Fabulous wide open ocean view! Just a short stroll to the longest beach on Maui, (5 miles of sugary golden sand!). Within walking distance to restaurants from casual to fine dining, Maui Aquarium, public transportation and family sports center that features; (mini golf, water bumper boats, extreme trampoline and rock climbing) gas, shopping and the harbor!

The "absolute best" property we have ever stayed!

My wife and I have been visiting the Islands for over 37 years. We have stayed in condominiums on many Islands. Our stay in Island Sands Unit # 512 on Maui was undoubtedly the "BEST STAY" we have had in all those years. igomauireservation@gmail.com was our contact for our rental. The Island Sands Unit # 512 is reportedly one of the largest on Hauoli St. in Ma'alaea . It sits direct ocean front with spectacular views. Everyday we were treated to viewing numerous sea turtles at the water's edge. The unit was extremely clean upon arrival with beautiful orchids placed throughout the unit and cold drinking water in the Sub-Zero refrigerator. This unit has two lanai's with seating, wonderful furnishings, newer televisions, artwork, beautiful bedding and much more. There are many close by attractions to visit within walking distance, the Maui Aquarium, marine activities and restaurants. Everything at the unit was better than advertised, clean and inviting. We would strongly recommend this property for the best service provided and a most memorable trip to Maui !

A well furnished and clean place, the property managers provided great service. The views from the balconies looking into the ocean is fantastic. This location is ideal to visit all parts of Maui. We loved our stay here.

Maui not so wowi

I'd like to start by saying I own a property that I rent out. There are certain things that need to be done to maintain a 5 star rating. The property was clean. We were allowed to set our suitcases in the unit while the ladies were cleaning. That was helpful since we landed at noon and check in was not until 3pm.

The linens were in good shape and were not pilled as we had read in another review. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cookware. The knives were dull. Need to be replaced. The light fixture in the shower is rusted and not working, needs to be replaced. I don't want to shower in a run down looking room.

The unit is advertised as having a/c. Let's be CLEAR what that means. There is a "window" unit that is near the floor, and blows on the end of the sofa. It only cools the den area if you close all of the doors to the bedrooms. They provide an oscillating fan in the second bedroom. There was a cross breeze in that room if all the slat windows were open. However the unit did not cool down until after midnight when the ocean breezes had cooled off. There are ceiling fans in both bedrooms as well as the den. Temps got into the upper 80's during our stay and the instructions say to shut off the a/c unit while you are away. This meant coming home to a hot condo everyday.

All of this being said, the area shows its wear and tear and yet is located in a great area to access all parts of the island easily. So that brought the rating up to 3 stars.

It is an older property and it shows. Furnishings are dated and yet adequate for living in. Having the washer and dryer in the unit was great for being able to wash clothes. We had been on vacation for a week and were continuing for another week and a half. Laundry facilities meant we packed enough clothing for one week, washed and started over.

There was a statement in the check out procedures that asked you to not leave too much laundry. I wasn't sure what that meant, and as a Property host at home I love when I walk in to clean and the guest has stripped the beds and towels. So I washed the beach towels and started the bath towels in the laundry. Sheets were all removed from the bed as well. I hope this satisfied the request to not leave to much laundry....

I would recommend this place to someone as long as the understand the a/c unit is not as advertised. Don't stay in the heat of the summer and you will be fine.

Owner's Response: Happy to hear that the condo was found to be clean, well stocked and in a great area to access all parts of the island. We love the area too for the same reason (convenience) and of course there are few places on Maui with condos that are this close to the waters edge. Our goal is that guests always enjoy a great experience with us and do everything we can to accommodate their needs or special requests. It saddens us to find out that their were disappointments as that is opposite of what we try to achieve. We have a history of 5 star happy reviews and it's important to retain that. The pilled sheets was a comment from 2012 but that was rectified and no comments to that since. We were not aware of some of the items mentioned but have already addressed. The requests regarding a/c, laundry or check out procedures are not mandates but very much appreciated. We want guests to be comfortable in the condos especially during hot spells and anticipate the guests to use the a/c as they see fit that is no problem and we do not expect guests to clean house while on vacation, we gladly take care of that! We currently have 27 beach and ocean front properties to choose from and a few with central a/c or split systems in each room, so those might be better options for some. Hopefully this guest will give us another chance to earn the extra stars. Overall you will find that the reputation of our condos are clean and well maintained and our reputation to please our guests is truly 5 star. :-)
