Beautiful Lake & Mountain Views from your front Porch

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with another couple~We brought our own blow up & but was an enjoyable stay for all. The Big front porch was our favorite hang out place when the guys weren't fishing or us girls site seeing. Very tranquil & relaxing especially with the Hot Tub.

The Peace & Quiet was just what we all needed to rejuvenate!

If I had a complaint~it would be the distance to the water from this cabin~It was my fault thinking directly on the water~But the brief walk was enjoyable.

Was easy to book & I've already gotten my deposit back as well. Enjoyable Relaxing Stay!

Owner's Response: Yes, there is a large deck that guests love to hang out on with great views of the lake and water. Its a quiet cove on the lake that is tranquil, relaxing and a large hot tub to enjoy and a big gas grill to cook on. Its just a short walk down to the lake where guests have a boat slip and a complimentary canoe. Being a short walk to the water also gives you more privacy and a better view. Thanks so much for the nice review. We always appreciate any kinds words about our little piece of heaven.

Beautiful, relaxing retreat!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Driftwood Cottage for 3 nights and it was just what we needed. My husband had been hiking the Appalachian Trail and was taking a few zero days to rest and recuperate. Even though there were several outdoor activities to do here at the lake (boating, fishing, hiking, etc.), we chose to just take in the view from the big porch, enjoy the quiet, and relax. The hot tub is a great perk. It worked wonderfully and is secluded on the the side of the cottage for privacy. The cottage was well stocked with kitchen needs. It is small, but plenty of room for two or a small family. The cottage is quite a ways from any stores (30-45 mins), so your best bet is to bring whatever you need with you and just enjoy the lake. We would love to come again and stay at some point.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for saying such nice things. So glad you two could enjoy and just relax there. It is nice to slow down and just take in the day and the view from the hotter. Glad you found the kitchen well stocked, our housekeeper tries very hard to keep the property well maintained. For future reference Dry Hill General Store sells breakfast, lunch and dinner for about 5 bucks. It also sells fishing supplies and limited groceries and is only a 7 minute drive from this property. Watauga lake winery is just down the street and a real 'treat' according to guests. Shirley's restaurant is about 15 minutes down the road and is considered a real 'Gem' in this area. If you don't mind the long wait in line to get inside. The Captains Table restaurant is on the water, serves adult beverages and is kid friendly is about a 20 minute drive. All these places and more are listed in the welcome package that every guest receives. Being that you two just came out of the woods after your hike you probably didn't have time to discover but want all guests to know there is stuff around if you know where to go. Again thanks so much for the kind words. They are most appreciated.

Good location, great view. Enjoyed the hot tub. But not a 4 star rental.

  • 3 of 5

Not sure how this rental got such high ratings. Over all, it wasn’t a bad place to stay. The view is the best around, the hot tub was great and the location was good. There were however some things that need to be addressed. Upon arrival and entering the unit there was a VERY strong odor that smelled like someone had recently (with in 30 minutes) smoked a joint(marijuana). Tried to dismiss it as maybe it was cleaning chemicals. Pretty sure it wasn’t the chemicals. The sliding glass door will open when locked with a slight amount of pull. There was a stick that was cut to fit in the track but you had look for it. It was leaning against the wall behind the couch. There were cobwebs in the bathroom. If you are planning on cooking here bring your own cook ware because theirs is not safe to cook with. Our experience wasn’t bad but we felt this was not a 4+ star rental. We would stay here again but be better prepaired.

Owner's Response: Yes, we do get a lot of really good reviews because most guests have a great experience. Sorry this place didn't meet some expectations, but glad the view, the hot tub and the location were enjoyed. Guests were booked back to back the day this guest arrived so we had a quick turn around time, with several of us cleaning. We smelt a burnt smell and found a scolded pot. We also use lysol spray to help with odors. Know too that we advertise this property as non-smoking and ask all guests to not smoke inside. Out here in the country most don't even lock their doors but the added security of the bar/stick is used in may hotels and add security. Not sure why cookware would be viewed as unsafe but will take a look next trip over when we clean.

nice getaway from the heat of Florida

  • 3 of 5

Really nothing to do, but a nice getaway. Lots of rules you must follow. Not the cleanest cabin we have been in. But, overall, nice.

Owner's Response: Glad this guest could escape the heat in florida and enjoy the cooler weather. There's not much to do on the property except kick back in your private hot tub and take advantage of the views. Its a place to rest, relax and possibly recharge. Guests can take advantage of modern conveniences, check emails, watch Tv but the whole purpose of staying here is to get away. If you are more adventures you can follow the extensive welcome package with a long list of things to do in the area. This time of year its too cold to swim in the lake but fishing is at its best. There's also a canoe to go down the river straight into the Cherokee National Forest. Temperatures this time of year reach into the mid 60's during the day making hiking, canoeing, spelunking, fishing a pleasure. If you're not too outdoorsy then take a scenic drive in any direction to neighboring vacation villages outlined in your welcome package. Neighboring towns offer unique shops, restaurants and live music. So if you are considering a stay here know this time of year offers things to do - just reference your welcome package for area activities or sit in your hot tub and enjoy the peace. There are no rules to follow only simple check out procedures that are reasonable and customary in our industry. All we ask is that guests respect the place and our staff members who tried very hard to get it as clean as possible.
