Why Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals chose Tennessee

You have the best of both worlds with water and surrounding mountains. Beautiful view from the deck. Many travelers choose to stay here because it's economical. The nightly rates at this property are less than a hotel room and with so many things included like canoe, a boat slip and a hot tub + hiking trails throughout the area you don't have to spend more $ on activities. There's so much to do right here if even its just soaking up the view and sun shine from the deck. Pontoon boat rentals thru the local marina's or bring your own.

What makes this mobile home unique

The canoe trip from the dock takes you straight into the Cherokee National Forest. This is a feature most travelers appreciate. A gentle trip through forest, tress, & boulders is just gorgeous. Lots of caves to discover and explore. If you like a diamond in the rough you have found it! Pontoon boat rentals thru the local marina's or bring your own.

Beautiful, relaxing retreat!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Driftwood Cottage for 3 nights and it was just what we needed. My husband had been hiking the Appalachian Trail and was taking a few zero days to rest and recuperate. Even though there were several outdoor activities to do here at the lake (boating, fishing, hiking, etc.), we chose to just take in the view from the big porch, enjoy the quiet, and relax. The hot tub is a great perk. It worked wonderfully and is secluded on the the side of the cottage for privacy. The cottage was well stocked with kitchen needs. It is small, but plenty of room for two or a small family. The cottage is quite a ways from any stores (30-45 mins), so your best bet is to bring whatever you need with you and just enjoy the lake. We would love to come again and stay at some point.

Awesome place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place. We had an amazing view, so we spent the majority of the time on the huge deck. The place was absolutely adorable, & offered some really nice privacy, unlike a lot of the cabins available which were on top of one another. This one is situated in its own little space. The hot tub was wonderful, clean & private. We needed to spend a bit of time unwinding. This was absolutely perfect. We will return!

Sleeping difficulties

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed the hot tub after we got it working with the help of Chris and Rose (who are awesome). The deck, fire pit and canoe were the best part of our trip. Their is only one cable box so you have to watch the same station whether you are watching on the TV in the bedroom or living room. The fold out bed in the living room is terrible and almost impossible to sleep on because of the bad springs in the sofa bed. We were also expecting the dock to be directly across from the rental but it is actually down the road a bit not too big of a deal. The property is clean and maintained very well.

Great stay at a small cozy place

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay here at Driftwood Cottage. Small but Cozy and best of all clean. Views were better than pictured with lake and mountains in the back ground. There's a really large deck with seating, a gas grill and a large, bubbling hot tub that we really enjoyed. You have a boat slip down at the water and a canoe comes with the place. We were provided with an extensive welcome package that cover all the nearby attractions, restaurants, marina's etc ... We didn't rent one but know there's boat rentals too for anyone wanting to really explore this very large, very beautiful, mountain lake. The reservation process was a breeze and we had several payment options offered to us. The place was clean and as advertised. We'll more than likely return and recommend to our friends.

Close to the lake and very clean

  • 5 of 5

Great view of the lake! My friend and I truly enjoyed our stay. It is definitely better size for 2 people depending on the length of stay. We took the canoe out and explored the lake and that was a lot of fun. If you are willing to make the drive back down the mountain for dinner, both the Captain's Table and Monsoon (even though it's tiny) are wonderful. My friend and I even went to Off The Gridountain Adventures on Friday when the weather was cloudy and had a blast on their zip line, swing, and base jump. I would stay here again!

Not what we expected.

  • 3 of 5

First I have to say that the owner seems like a nice fellow. Attentive. When we drove up my wife and I were pretty disappointed in the overall condition of the trailer. I actually apologized to her and offered to go somewhere else. The pictures in the ad are old and need to be updated. The notebook in the trailer is also out of date and needs to be updated. If you are simply renting the trailer for fishing and it's a guy thing, then this trailer will do. It is NOT a place where you want to bring a spouse or GF. Stains on the couch and dog hair on the bed cover. Somewhat limited on silverware. Bathroom did have an odor as a previous reviewer mentioned and a rock was on the bathroom floor. I guess to keep the door open. Best part was the grill. Old fishing boat in the front yard. Overall kinda dumpy for the price. Should be around $80 a night. Also we didn't mind cleaning the dishes but we were asked to start the washing machine for the maid. We paid a cleaning fee. That is her job. This is the second property that we rented over a 3 week period and the other property was also in poor shape. I firmly believe that reviewers need to be accurate in their comments and that owners need current pics and to highly maintain their properties. If the property is not in tip top shape...don't rent it! I am sure that the owner will offer some excuses for the condition but there really aren't any that justify the price and the inaccurate ads need to be corrected.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the compliment. Yes, as owners we are very attentive to our guests and respond to their needs quickly. Driftwood Cottage is a very clean, well kept mobile home that's perfect for folks who are on a budget but still want a vacation on the water with all the bells and whistles like hot tub, gas grill, boat slip & complimentary canoe. The old boat in the front yard is a nostalgic yard ornament. This property has such a large yard I never imaged it bothered anyone. Every guests gets a brand new welcome package emailed to them that is 100% up to date. We emailed your welcome package to you several times, there was really no reason for you to use an old one left inside the cottage from a previous guest. Information changes, door codes change etc .. using the welcome package sent to you for your dates of stay is encouraged. Yes, after taxes that's about what you paid remember taxes go to the gov't not the owner. After meeting you & your girl friend it was obvious she wanted a 'real' log cabin & not the mobile home you had chosen. Sorry that it wasn't in the budget but that disappointment isn't really our fault. Know we also have log cabins for those looking for something a bit more up scale - the choice falls on the shoulders of the guest to choose what works best for them. Housekeeping has a pretty big job, hauling off your trash, mop, vacuum, change linens. Its a heavy load, starting the dishwasher is just a respectful thing to do when staying in someone else's home. The other accounts you mentioned just aren't true and were not mentioned when we came over to help you. Sorry that you aren't having good luck with rentals that are family owned and not meeting your expectations.
