Come experience a different part of Florida from the very large deck of this great river house. Bring your boat, fishing poles, the kids, and grandma. You will enjoy the large dock, complete with covered boat house, running water, fish cleaning station, lights, and floating dock perfectly suited for tying up your boat. Remember there are alligators in Florida. This house has an open floor plan with split bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms open to the covered deck and have views of the river. The deck and dock are great spots for watching the boats go by. The river is 310 miles long and occasionally will host smaller cruise ships bringing their passengers to tour the scenic and historic St Johns River. This was a popular destination during the Gilded Age. The vacation this home makes possible should not be considered 'luxurious' but instead enjoyed as a return to nature.
This home is clean and spacious with fantastic views and is located very close to the boat ramp, grocery and drug stores and restaurants. You will feel very secluded but can still walk to the market. Wild turkeys, alligators, and fish are very common. Manatees, otters and other wildlife are often seen in and around the river. We have provided 2 kayaks and paddles. You will find an assortment of life and ski vest as well as several floats for your enjoyment. You will need to bring most other fishing and boating items with you.
We have a large dining room table in the 'River Room' which can easily seat 8, with views through the 5 sliding glass doors. Located off the kitchen is a breakfast table that can seat 6.
Palatka is known as the' Bass Capital of the World'. The fishing is great and shrimping is possible in August and September.
This home has been our family retreat for over 15 years. We have decided to share our home with others starting in late May 2011. It is located only 30 miles from St. Augustine and the St. Johns County beaches. We hope you enjoy your stay in our River House.

My wife and I have lived in St. Augustine since 1981. We have always enjoyed traveling, and have made many friends along the way.
Our two children are now off to school, which leaves us more time to enjoy our favorite activities.
David Powell purchased this house in 1996
We bought this property because we love the river. It was close to everything but it is very private.
We bought this river home in 1996 when our kids were very young and spent many weekends and a large portion of the summers and holidays here. This house is so perfect for casual entertaining.
This is a fantastic property and a wonderful owner to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is on the end of a dead end street so it is a quiet ant relaxing location. The view of the river from the large deck was very picturesque. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. We will definitively be booking another vacation here.
Nice view and loved the screen porch. The bathrooms had most of their light bulbs out and the washer leaked some. Also had 3 other bulbs out. Other than that everything was great
My husband and I loved this home. It actually felt like home. My husband kept saying he could live here! We took the kayaks down the river a bit and a 12-foot alligator plopped into the water and scared us to death. We continued down and when we came back it seemed like he was waiting for us. We had to paddle far around him to get back to the shore. Very exciting! On the last day of our stay, I saw an armadillo in the yard. We highly recommend this home!
My family has stayed at the river house for 3 years now....It is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay...We always catch plenty of fish. Mr. Powell is great to work with. He is always available if you need him for something. I cant wait to plan another trip in the summer. Thank you
We were looking for peaceful. We were needing to relax. WE wanted a place where our young teen boys could throw a line out and be able to run barefoot. WE wanted a lazy old rocker on a big porch in old Florida. We wanted the peace of a lazy river. We found PERFECT at The River House on The St. Johns River in Palatka Florida!! From the minute we opened the front door, and we could see out through the house to the big river, we began to forget all the stresses of South Florida and all deadlines and worries. The house is laid out wonderfully with the Master Bedroom and main guest bedroom and the living/ family areas all looking out at the most beautiful long green lawn down to the river! There is a very large well laid out kitchen with all the appliances and set ups that you could possibly need. There is a split bedroom plan so the parents had one side and our kids the other! The living/family area had the most wonderful big comfy recliners, sofas and easy chairs. Everything about The River House is about comfort, and relaxing!! Every morning, we woke up to beautiful views of the river while we drank our morning coffee!! Outside the entire back of the house is a huge walk around porch with old rockers and chairs. I loved sitting in the rocker and reading and watching the boys fish off of the big dock! WE were so content at the The River House, we never went out to eat! I couldn't get the boys to leave the dock!! WE ordered out from the Restaurant down the street our first night and cooked on the grill every meal after that. It was just to heavenly where we were to go anywhere else!! We did enjoy a beautiful day on the river by renting a boat and taking it down to Dunn's Creek. The weather could not have been more perfect. All in all, the entire four day visit was a home run!! We highly recommend The River House! WE hope to return many times in the future!!
WOW! Greater than expected! After long researching for a home on the river to unite with our grown children and enjoy some boating to celebrate 'dad's big 6-0', we decided with this beautiful home. It was much larger than expected from the photos and nested privately yet very close to town, restaurants and boat ramps. Extremely cleaned, well equipped and comfortable. The huge deck was perfect for the entire family (and grand-dog) to party! Enjoyed the kayaks, fishing, and sunsets from the swing on the dock. Our youngest entertained us with flying a helicopter and 2 seaplane RC models off the water, along with a wake-skate water ski show. Had a total of 3 boats with plenty of parking along the dock. We enjoyed boating south to the unique train bridge then through the beautiful channel to Crescent Lake and discovered a cool 'Key's style' restaurant, "3 Bananas". The only downside was not long enough stay! There is plenty more to explore along the St Johns North to Jacksonville, and south to the Silver Glenn and towards Orlando, so we plan to be back! Can't thank the owners enough for sharing their home with our family that made some wonderful memories!
