Becket Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps: 4-8

Two bedrooms, two baths and a fully equipped kitchen make this cozy cottage a wonderful vacation retreat. Across the road from a quiet, no-wake lake in the heart of the Berkshires, this is the perfect home base to take advantage of all the area has to offer. Spend a summer afternoon at the grassy beach just a 5-minute walk down the road and take the provided inflatable boat out on the water. Fire up the gas grill for a tasty dinner at the picnic table on the deck. On a cool night in the fall, start a warm, cheery fire in the wood stove.

The fully updated cottage has two walls of windows and is sunny throughout. One bedroom has bunk beds and a queen-sized pullout couch. The other has a king-size bed, along with a private full bath. There is also a sleeping porch with a small convertible sofa and twin bed – perfect for a warm summer night. The kitchen comes completely stocked with dishes and cookware.

In addition to the comforts of home, the cottage is close to many of the Berkshires' great attractions. It is less than 10 minutes to Jacob's Pillow dance festival (free evening performances at a stunning outdoor stage) and 30 minutes to Tanglewood. The Appalachian Trail is just 15 minutes away. Easy access to the Norman Rockwell museum, Edith Wharton's 'the mount', Berkshire Museum, MassMoca and the Clark. And the Lee premium outlets are close by as well.

Great rental

  • 5 of 5

This rental was perfect for our family. It was clean upon arrival, the layout is very open but definitely easy to find privacy. The beds were comfortable and bedrooms were roomy. The lake is a short walkable distance from the house and we had it to ourselves for the entire week. The water was beautiful. The owner is very helpful and gave us a lot of information for the stay. If you're on the laid back side, definitely check out Dream Away lodge for dinner in Becket. We met some locals hanging out at the fire pit and had a great meal and great time. Thanks for a wonderful week.

very comfortable place

  • 5 of 5

The place was impeccably clean, beds were comfortable, nice deck, well-cared for lawn. Communication with the owner was always prompt and easy. The inflatable boat and flotation devices were a nice bonus. The house is quite large and can easily accommodate 8 people. The kitchen was well stacked with all you need for cooking, and the grill was very easy to use. I wish the house had a fire pit - nowhere to make bonfire at night. We did make fire in the wood stove on a rainy day and the house got very hot very quickly.

Absolutely charming and secluded, a true gem!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was exactly as described, quiet and cleanly and perfect for a weekend getaway. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to get back to civilization when necessary. The hiking in the area was perfect, couldn't have asked for a better central location to all of the most popular trail systems. Pristine Lake proved to be true to its name, pristine and breathtakingly beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for some time to venture in the woods or just some R & R. The property owners were wonderful communicators and provided great customer service, we will definitley be back for another stay in the future!

Lovely tucked away Berkshire retreat

  • 4 of 5

We've stayed with four adults and two young kids (0 and 2 yrs old) at this lovely Berkshire retreat and would definitely return. The house is spacious enough - love the outdoor area and BBQ - and accommodated our party well. All facilities are there - in good shape, clean and easy to use. Do note if you consider going here that we've brought the kids' beds with us as all beds at the house are for adults or older kids. The owners are amiable, professional and easy to communicate with. They provided us with a good manual - both for the house and for getting around.

The immediate surroundings are really nice and quiet. We really felt being away from 'reality'. There's a lake only a short walk away and it has a lovely spot on which to hang out and enjoy nature.

We've visited Tanglewood which is only a 30 mins drive.

Definitely a place we'd recommend!

Not clean... but a repsonsive landlord

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I have been renting homes through the internet and agents, sight unseen, for 20 years. We've stayed at homes throughout the US and Europe- in cities and countryside Unfortunately, this place has been one of the worst places we have stayed. However, the landlord was very responsive.

It was not clean. The cushions were grimy, the owners' personal items (clothes and shoes) were in the common rooms, and every dish and pot had to be scrubbed before use. The toaster oven, cutting board, and salt and pepper shakers were beyond washing but should be thrown away. The linens felt grimy, and the bed pillows were fragrant of previous sleepers.

Cabin smell. Even after 6 days with the windows open and fans running, the place smelled damp and fetid. There had been a lot of rain; however, a dehumidifier or other items could have helped.

In general, it felt shoddy (knobs came off the cabinets and a chair had torn seat). The master bed (actually two twin beds pushed together) was soft.

The house was roomy. Perhaps appropriate for a large group of students... but NOT for a couple or family.

There is really no view of the lake, and we could not even swim in it because it had e coli. We left early; the only reason we stayed as long as we did is because we had tickets to shows in the area and could not find another suitable place (plus we had prepaid for this place). The front and rear decks were nice.

With all this said, the Berkshires are beautiful and have great cultural events- dance, art and theater. . We look forward to returning to the area again-- however, NOT here.

Owner's Response: This review is decidedly out of date. We have had several additional renters this summer, and they have been very pleased with their stay, as the above reviews attest. The house is in fine shape and an excellent value and location. Also, when you brought a problem to our attention, it was fixed within 24 hours. I regret that the hot, muggy weather affected the quality of the house (and caused the high bacteria count in the lake) but that was clearly beyond our control.
