|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Beautiful, lakeside cottage - the perfect getaway! Begin and end each of your hard earned vacation days by watching the sun rise and set over the water of the lake and nearby hills, while listening only to the quiet, occasionally interrupted by the call of the loons.
The Blue Heron is a 900sq', 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage that will sleep 6 comfortably (but as many as 8 if some of the party are children), with a screened porch, gas grill, picnic table and well equipped kitchen. We include two kayaks to use during your stay. The cottage/condominium complex has a recreation field with volleyball, badminton, and horseshoe pits. There are also several hammocks on the grounds and firepits on the beach.
Additionally, if you are travelling with small children we can provide all the necessities so you can travel light (i.e. pack-n-play, toddler bed, high chair, baby bathtub, exersaucer, booster seat).
We are pet friendly (with additional cleaning fee) and offer lots of room, walking trails and a swimming area for your furry friends.
Our location is geographically ideal for vacationing in Maine. Contact us for details on special deals.
I grew up on Androscoggin Lake in Leeds. After graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy in VT, I returned home to attend the University of Maine. I had an off and on collegiate career and graduated from The University of Southern Maine many years later with a Bachelor's in History and minor in Education. During that drawn out collegiate time I owned my own florist shop, selling ice cream, worked for L.L. Bean, began working in education and coaching basketball and I helped run Angell Cove Cottages. In 2009 I met Scott and we married, moved to Monmouth, Maine and welcomed our daughter the next year. Quinn was joined by her brother Jack in the spring of 2012. And the spring of 2013, we welcomed the addition of The Blue Heron Cottage to our family.
Allison Angell purchased this cottage in 2013
When I was in college my parents began to develop our family homestead and the surrounding acres into a vacation rental business - Angell Cove Cottages. After my dad passed away, I stayed at Angell Cove for over a decade helping my mother, Barbara Angell, run the expanding business. Last year, after Barbara decided she wanted to lessen her work load as she considers retirement, we purchased one of the cottages to rent independantly as well as to use with our own young family. The Blue Heron Cottage and the Angell Cove Condiminium complex truly have an extraordinary spirit to them and we want you to have a wonderful experience staying in our family cottage, just as we do.
Right from the beginning, Allison answered our questions and provided the material for a perfect stay there. We had really good weather for sunbathing, kayaking, swimming, barbecues, etc. Really looking forward to return there for another summer getaway !
The place was awesome. Semi-private beach with incredible views. The cabin is just perfect. Very traditional very cosy and very clean. The best part of our stay was our landlord Allison. She was awesome. She made sure we had everything we needed and everything was on point. Definitely recommended for a gateway from a busy work-life. The place and area is pet friendly with a private beach dedicated for pets.
Definitely coming back!
Wow, the pictures do not do it justice! The home was spacious, clean and well equipped. There were 3 adults and 3 kids. The peace and tranquility of the area is PERFECT! Our two teenage girls enjoyed kayaking, as did we and our nephew enjoyed the sand and splashing around. Loved the fact we could just send them out and keep an eye on them just by looking the window. We are looking forward to coming back!
Spent 4 days at the Blue Heron this summer and were not disappointed! We were coming from Montreal, so I was a little nervous about the 5+ hour drive with 4 adults and a 3 year old. Once we got there all our tension just disappeared. We were not disappointed with the cabin - it was just as described and perfect for us. Allison was so generous, leaving us a toddler bed, stroller, booster seat and a big box of Lego. Not having to schlep that stuff with us was a big help! The cabin is rustic, but clean and fully equipped.
The beach was sandy and shallow - good for little swimmers. Kayaks were fun to get away for a bit and explore the surroundings. Plenty of relaxing areas, but still not so isolated that you can't meet someone new at the campfire. We shared our s'mores with two nice families from New Jersey.
The one day it rained we drove 1 hour and spent the day Portland at the Children's Museum and then headed for lobster at Demillo's. Then we stopped at Freeport outlets on our way back. Everybody had fun despite the torrential rain!
Grocery stores are not far, so we didn't have to worry about what was permissible at the border. And wifi helped to locate them.
I've already told everyone I know with young kids about this place!
This beach was perfect. The cottage was the perfect location from the water and with the water not getting very deep until very far out we were able to run to the cottage for snacks with the kids still on the beach. Gorgeous view from the cottage and the other renters provided other children for ours to play with. We even had a potluck dinner with one family. We brought 2 children, yet at any given time had 6 in our cottage for snacks. It was like a flash back to the safe environment we grew up with. Our chocolate lab loved the water and going for daily hikes and/or runs. The road out front is more like a path, no traffic and perfect for bikes. Our 4 year old learned to ride without training wheels within 10 minutes of our arrival thanks to Allison leaving us a couple of loaner bikes for our boys (ages 6 1/2 and 4). She met us upon our arrival and was at our disposal if we needed anything. The wifi was perfect to catch up on a show in the evening when it rained and the kayaks were relaxing to go out on the water with. We loved every minute of our peaceful stay here at Angell Cove and will definitely be back. The fire pits were stocked daily with fresh wood and the laundry facility was right beside our cabin - perfect! Our cabin was clean and cozy, and the perfect size to be honest! Our only complaint (and it's not even a big one) was the leash law. It was difficult to keep our lab on a leash when he is used to being at our side without one so it took some getting used to for everyone. Overall it was one of our best family vacations yet!!
The is a very nice and relaxing cottage in an absolutely beautiful setting. The cottage is well cared for by the owners and has everything you will need for your stay, from housewares, games to outdoor activities. The owners are wonderful and responsive to any request and make sure that if there is something needed, they will help you get it. I would definitely stay here again, I highly recommend it for a few days or longer to relax and enjoy. I stayed here in July 2014 and the weather was perfect for any and everything.
