Todd and I have been coming to the east side of the Big Island for many years. We love it and are so happy we now have a home to share!
Melanie and/or Todd Houston purchased this house in 2011
The Big Island is by far the most diverse of all the Hawaiian Islands with 11 of the world’s 13 climate zones. View waves crashing on to the cliffs or walk on white, black or green sandy beaches!
With private pool, beautiful hardwood floors, granite countertops, All memory foam mattresses and custom designed bathrooms, you can relax in comfort and style!
What a great experience for our family! A wonderful well cared for home with plenty of room for three kids to get some space after a long day looking at the great sights the Big Island has to offer. I can tell Melanie is a sweetheart even though we only conversed via email. Prompt with replys to any questions and makes sure everything is just right for your arrival. The pool is outstanding and the neighbors are very friendly, great place from which to explore Mauna Kea, Kilauea Crater, Black Sand beaches, abundant waterfalls and The Hilo Farmers market. We live on Oahu so the whole Hawaii scene is nothing new but we had a simply awesome time and Melanie and Todd allowing us to stay in this beautiful home just added to it. Thanks again Melanie!
A beautiful home awaits as the gates swing open and you are greeted with a driveway lined with trees and other flowering plants.
The home was very clean and the layout worked very well for us. My parents and sister enjoyed the two large bedrooms upstairs while I used the downstairs which functioned as a small apartment on its own. The upstairs is very open and air with high ceilings and a small lanai off the dining area. There are views out to the back yard which is beautifully landscaped and features a lovely pool which we enjoyed every morning during our stay.
The location works very well for exploring the eastern half of the island. A short 5 to 10 minutes stroll will get you to some views of the ocean. If you are willing to venture a little further down the road, a 15 to 20 minute walk leads to Kaloli Point, where you can stand on the old lava flows and watch the waves crash against the rocks. A truly worthwhile experience while staying at the house.
We also explored some of the southeastern coast with a short drive to Lava Tree State Monument and MacKenzie State park for more views of the crashing ocean waves. The drive along the coast heading toward Kalapana also brought more spectacular views and leads toward the county lava viewing area. It was also a 30 minute drive to Issac Hale Park, the launching point for many of the lava boat tours, another unforgettable experience.
The town of Pahoa, with several delicious restaurants was only a few miles south and Hilo is approximately a half hour north with many more restaurants and attractions to see. We also made time to stop at Volcanoes national park which was less than an hour away. We also drove north of Hilo up to the Wai'pio Valley Overlook and stopped at Akaka Falls on our way back to the house.
The owners were very easy to deal with and very quick to respond to an questions we had. We would definitely stay in this house again on a return trip to the island. Thank You for sharing your piece of paradise with us.
This was a Beautiful Home! In a gated and safe country like location . A good spot because there are many thing to see and do in the local area. By the way ,staying home and enjoying your pool and landscape is not a bad idea either.
Consider this One as it is a great value offered by folks that make your visit pretty easy.
Lovely house in quiet, Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood. We stayed for five days of a ten day Big Island trip. The house was immaculate with beautiful wood floors in great room and plush carpeting in the bedrooms. Simply and beautifully furnished, beds were very comfortable and very large chef's kitchen had everything we could have needed to prepare wonderful meals.
Security gate and automatic lighting gave us a sense of security and privacy. Bathrooms and entire house were immaculate, as was the beautiful and relaxing in ground pool with lighting for night swims. What a great way to cool off and relax at the end of the day.
We rented the upstairs two bedroom unit and enjoyed coffee on the lanai in the morning as well as Mai tais in the evening. Beautiful ocean breezes flow through the many windows and the sound of the nearby surf and coqui frogs were a beautiful sound in the evenings. We will probably rent the downstairs unit next time for easier access to the pool area, but loved the layout of the house, the spaciousness and beautiful finishes. Landscaping is also very beautiful.
Booking was very easy and the owner was great about staying in communication and answering questions. Deposit was waiting for us when we returned home. Great location for East side of the island for day trips and volcanoes park explorations. We will definitely stay here the next time we come back!
Wonderful rental house with a fabulous pool. We stayed 2 weeks and were thrilled at how well the house worked for our vacation. The location on Kaloli point is perfect for a stay in the South Hilo area. Hawaiian Paradise Park is a beautiful neighborhood with lots of great activities and incredible views. The walk to the ocean is short and the coastline is so cool. We saw whales and turtles right from the shore. The house is as gorgeous as it looks, and by far the cleanest Rental home that we have ever stayed in (we rent at least 2 or 3 times a year). We highly recommend this house for your future vacation.
What a great experience for our first vacation in Hawaii! From the gated entrance, through the house to the pool in the back everything was wonderful. This spacious, well cared for home and beauty of the garden and pool made us feel so lucky to have found this gem.
The attention to detail, good quality of things in the house, the well equipped kitchen enhanced the beauty of the house, garden and pool.
Melanie and Todd you really know how to treat your guests so expect to hear from us again and be sure we will highly recommend your beautiful home to friends and family!
I was absolutely delighted from the moment I stepped onto the property. There's a gate at the entrance, before a gravel driveway, to the house. Major bonus points for that security feature, even though it's a lovely, safe neighborhood (my dearest friends live there and can attest to that fact).
It was easy to see the grounds were well cared for, and the house was no different. Living in the tropics, so close to the ocean, it's a lot of work to keep a house in good condition and yet, this one is pristine. The pictures are current, representing the house as is -- beautiful and clean.
Nearly every detail was taken into account. Melanie leaves a guest binder near the front door that gives thoughtful, clear instructions on various aspects of the home that may be helpful during the visit. It's written in a kind, easy manner that immediately made me feel welcome.
Everything I needed for an extended stay was available: washer/dryer, towels (including beach towels), dishwasher, a fully stocked kitchen (equipment, not food ha!), even blankets (it gets a tiny bit chilly at night), and...can't forget...
Wow, it was gorgeous, in a private, lush setting (I have to comment again on how well maintained this was, too). The only (tiny) downside is that the deck is slippery, so keep your flip flops nearby as you're getting in/out of the pool and walk carefully. But since we were in Hawaii, with nothing but time, nowhere to be, and no rushing, we took our time strolling back to our chairs.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Melanie over the course of a year, she was nothing if not extremely gracious and responsive.
Hilo is my favorite place, besides home, in the world and I was grateful that Melanie and Todd's gave me the feeling and comforts of being home. I'm already looking forward to going back! I highly recommend it!
