Hale Kai O’Kihei 2019 Construction Update — November 23, 2018
On November 23, 2018, HKOK owners learned from the HKOK Board of three improvement projects to occur in 2019: Retiling of the pool; maintenance and repainting of all lanai railings; and, replacement of all sewage pipes under the parking lot. The HKOK Board is looking to undertake the projects concurrently to minimize risks to safety and to keep inconvenience to a minimum, but the scope of the railing maintenance and the sewer work will require the building to be closed to owners and guests for several weeks.
The Board has suggested a six-week closure of the building. My experience during the upgrade of the pool deck and other amenities in 2016 saw a similar timeline projection turn into a much, much longer intrusion, even though I’d extended the projected timeline by an additional two weeks’ closure of HKOK208 at the outset.
To me, the risk of interfering with a guest’s stay through noise and harmful airborne material, or having to cancel it at the last minute because of a project-management failure, is simply too great. Better to avoid causing guests upset in the first instance.
Accordingly, I’m not accepting reservations for HKOK208 stays during the August 4, 2019, to October 19, 2019 window.
These are welcome and essential projects. As new details emerge on the project, and as timelines are adjusted based on project start dates and evidence of a legitimate completion date, I’ll revisit the HKOK208 closure and adjust it against the backdrop of guest enjoyment and security.
Thank you so much for considering Hawaii, Maui, and Hale Kai O’Kihei for your vacation. With so many wonderful and exotic holiday destinations to choose from, the Internet bringing access to them right to your home, and vacation time and dollars so precious, we appreciate you taking the time to visit our site.
In finishing, furnishing, and maintaining our apartment 208, we started from a simple premise: what do we like about where we stay when we’re on holiday? Whether we’re doing a home exchange, staying in a reciprocal private club in another city, or in an apartment or condo booked through VRBO, we want a place that speaks to intimacy and individuality.
We don’t like cold, impersonal, one-size-fits-all experiences, where the bare minimum is what’s provided. We want to stay in places where our needs are important, where our time spent travelling to the destination and the cost of getting there is understood and appreciated. We want to stay in homes and apartments where the human touch of the owner abounds — where the owner’s attention to detail and focus on our experience are always top of mind.
It’s all about passion. Your experience with us needs to be exceptional. From the moment you walk in the door, we want you to experience an ocean-front home away from home that is warm and welcoming. Perhaps it’s the colours, the cleanliness, or the carefully selected artwork. Maybe it’s the fresh flowers and wine, or the L'Occitane en Provence toiletries. Or perhaps it's one of the dozens of other little touches — like the beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, binoculars — that make arriving and getting started on your time off and time away just that much quicker and easier.
We spend a great deal of time listening to our guests and tailoring our efforts to their needs. The personal touch infuses all that we do, and that passion is fuelled each time a guest returns, or recommends our apartment to family members and friends.
Again, thank you for choosing Hawaii and Maui, and for considering our apartment 208 at Hale Kai O’Kihei. We’d like you to stay with us, and experience our efforts to make your stay exceptional and to keep you coming back, whenever work schedules, family commitments, or the need to ‘just get away’ allow.
