About Adam Leamy, Owner
We're like many of the guests we've met at Hale Kai O'Kihei over the years -- we've got demanding jobs, and put a lot of effort into our work. So there are times when we just want to get away from the stress for a few days, and get to a place where living is just easier, the demands less. That philosophy guided our renovation and redecoration of our first Hale Kai O’Kihei apartment when we purchased it in 2008 (and sold in 2015). The same approach influenced the additions and touches we've added to this stunningly renovated unit #208, which we purchased in 2011. We've added more “Maui” colour though a restfully exotic paint palette, thoughtful furnishings, finishings, and appliances, and additional locally sourced vintage Hawaiian artwork. We don’t like to pack too much when we come to Hale Kai O’Kihei, so we stock snorkels, fins, and masks, boogie boards and beach chairs right down to binoculars and tropical CDs for our guests and us to use. We’re always learning more about what makes a stay at Hale Kai O’Kihei an outstanding experience for ourselves and our guests. And with #208, one of the nicest units in Hale Kai O’Kihei -- itself the best in boutique accommodation in South Maui -- we’ve perfected the delivery of the Hawaiian experience that we and our guests have dreamt of! So join us in the great Maui adventure at Hale Kai O’Kihei! Come and visit and discover the Hawaiian holiday of your dreams!

Why Adam Leamy, Owner chose Kihei
We’ve been visiting HKOK since 1997, and bought our first apartment in 2008, selling it in 2015. This remarkable place, and the experience it offers, gets in your blood. Departures for us and our guests aren’t the end -- they’re just the start of planning for the next trip. And that’s the best way to finish a holiday -- making plans for the next one. Each time we visit, HKOK delivers. Sometimes we’re doing errands and chores; other times, we’re true ‘guests’ ourselves, relishing the chance to do blissfully, decadently nothing. Just taking in the sights, the sounds, and the beauty of it all. And the great thing is that it’s all there, visible from the private lanai or for direct interaction by way of a few paces across the lawn, through the palm trees to the beach. In March 2011, on a beach walk from HKOK, past the oceanfront estates on Halama St. through Kalama Park, and over a coffee at Kihei Caffe, the decision was made to buy #208. Why? Because in a world of sometimes wearying change HKOK is a welcome, restorative constant. And therein lies the HKOK charm: Shopping and services are a block away and those farther afield run the gamut from Macy’s to Tiffany’s. For us, the real draw continues to be this simple delight: Once we get in the door of #208, and put our groceries away, we're set, and can experience much of what we want from Maui, even whale watching, from our own lanai or our own front yard and beach. The lure of Maui’s beaches, restaurants and places to watch the world slowly go by remains. But 208, uniquely renovated, offers a wondrous Hawaiian experience, all day long -- one many of us dreamt of in childhood on ‘sick days’ in colder climes, when game-show hosts Bob Barker or Tom Kennedy whisked winners away to Hawaii, affording us all a Technicolor glimpse of this exotic paradise. Sitting on the edge of the beach with a glass of wine, long after the sun has disappeared? Still a star-gazer's paradise, and an awesome way to end any day.
What makes this Condo unique
We love walking the beach first thing in the morning, before the sun peeks out over the edge of Haleakala, when ours are the first footprints in the sand. We love the way that in the mid-morning, the water just off the shore is dead calm, and is as many shades of blue, blue-green, and turquoise you can count. We love watching the horizon out past the shallows, where the water turns a deep, alluring blue, when the breaching Humpbacks send plumes of bright white spray into the air. We love the midday when beach walkers and sun bathers take a break from the waves and the sun, seeking shade and sustenance, and a quiet falls over Hale Kai O’Kihei. We love the mid-afternoon awakening when the wind picks up, the waves are more playful, drawing windsurfers and kite surfers to the shore and the challenges beyond. We love the late afternoon, when the sun accelerates its race for the far side of Lanai and the lawn is a velvety canvas of yellows and greens, set against the dark slope of West Maui to the north, and a still-clear sky speaks to the promise of stars and far-away dreams to follow. We love when the sun finally winks out behind Lanai, and those who have assembled on the lawn and beach to watch its farewell hug, kiss, or squeeze hands, in that knowing gesture which acknowledges that this one moment, this one sunset, experienced together, was what called them to Maui, and which they will use, in the years ahead, as the touchstone to remember their trip here, and why it was so special. And then we love when darkness falls, and the two of us head down to the beach, lie back in the sand, and take in the enormity of the clarity and depth of the wondrous night sky.

What a wonderful condo. The rental process, check in, all the info sent to us beforehand made this a dream vacation. Adam was so helpful. We loved the low-key location of this condo, oceanfront. We had breakfast on the Lana’i each morning and watched the turtles pop their heads out of the surf. Great way to start the day. We will be back. Mahalo!
This was our first trip to Hawaii and staying at HKOK 208 played a large role in us saying that it was our first trip, not our only trip. Adam, the owner, has a great attention to detail and anticipating the needs of his and Michelle‘s guests. The communication with Adam via email was warm, inviting and detailed - as well as the instructions at the condo.
Our son gave us the gift of his frequent flyer miles to celebrate the conclusion of my husband’s 32 years at his job. We had our choice of many locations, and found that our choice of Maui (and HKOK 208) was paradise found. The condo lanai offered a different photo op every night of the sunset. We spent our time exploring Maui from top to bottom and swam and/or snorkeled at twenty or so Beaches.
We would definitely stay at HKOK 208 for future trips to Maui!
A great stay.
Thank you Adam for making changes to your schedule to allow us to stay at your place on our way home through Hawaii.
It's a long trip and we increasingly appreciate the chance to stop and recharge at your home before contining the journey back to ours.
The last few trips we were unable to stay with you and had to stay elsewhere. Walking back into your place and settling in reminded us just how much better the experience is when the owner takes as much care as you do. Not only was it like coming home, in so many thoughtful ways, it's better than home.
I read your guest book and clearly you and Michelle had another busy stay. I've never seen the place look better and, as usual, your attention to detail was reflected in our deep pleasure at being back.
Thanks. Your place is the best on the island.
this place is fantastic just like advertised. would stay again
A lovely note from you, and thank you for writing it.
Guests celebrate all kinds of milestones at Hale Kai O’Kihei. Honeymoons, old friends reconnecting, moms and daughters, and dads and sons marking a special time together before college or work in a faraway place — some are big things, others small, but all are special to those marking the achievement or moment. And that makes all of them important to us because of our responsibility to provide an exceptional back drop that allows the memories to be rekindled, and new ones to be forged.
For you, it was your 45th anniversary, and we were delighted to play a small roll in such a fine testament to commitment. Thank you for letting us be a part of it.
Our guests range in age and experience. And not all are comfortable with online interactions. We talked by phone, and you were careful and diligent in making sure that when we had to exchange information by email that you let me know you had received it, and were able to print it out.
Setting up your stay was a balance between the old and the new, and the familiar (the phone) and, I think, the ‘getting familiar’ (email). And it was a reminder to me that taking time, and taking care with each guest makes sure that we communicate in the best way so that they are comfortable in their choice of accommodation, and confident that they have the information they need, and in the form they need it, to make their stay exceptional.
Congratulations again on your 45th and all that says about you both. And thank you for allowing us to play a role in your celebratory trip, and in this special, wonderful milestone. Adam
Second Time, Still Amazing!
This is our second time staying at HKOK208 and we were very glad to be back. The condo is very well maintained, nicely appointed, fitted with everything you need and is quite comfortable. The view from the lanai is as good as it gets and we spent every morning out there. The owner Adam is super communicative and very easy to work with.
For us, Kihei is ideally located, providing central access to the entire island.
I have recommended HKOK208 to family in the past and they have also really enjoyed their stay. I would not hesitate to continue recommending this location for your stay on Maui.
I’ve mentioned this in our notes, but it seemed that you’d only just booked your stay, and your visit had come and gone. I always enjoy our exchanges in the lead-up to your visits, and appreciate the great care you take; to organize your stay and itinerary, and of the apartment itself. Michelle and I are there later this month for one of our longer stays (we visit several times a year for two-or-three days just to make sure all is in order for an exceptional stay for guests) and are at the point now where we’re getting quite excited. As many times as we visit, the idea of returning to Hale Kai O’Kihei always thrills. Just the way of the place. Thank you for returning, and for introducing your family to this lovely gem on the ocean’s edge. It really is a magical place for restoring spirit, energy, and balance. You’re always welcome. Adam
The minute we walked through the door we felt at home. This was our third time at HKOK 208 and we were so blessed to stay six weeks. The sunsets are amazing a different painting every night. The first three weeks of our stay we saw the humpback whales put on an incredible performance. Thank you Adam for providing binoculars.
This is definitely paradise.
Thank you Adam for being so accommodating we appreciated having an early check in and a late check out .
God willing we will be back
Peter and Marianne
What a lovely turn of phrase about the sunsets; “a different painting every night.” Our visits are usually short ones — ten days or so once a year then three-or-four trips of three days or so when gaps in the schedule allow, just to check that all is what we expect for guests upon their arrival and for their stay. So I have to admit that I’m envious of your stay. Six weeks would give you a chance to experience the nuances of the place; the presence of the whales and their departure; the grand and subtle differences in nightly sunsets; and, the change in personality of Hale Kai O’Kihei as the ebb and flow of guests occurs. It’s perhaps easy to think that each day on Maui or at Hale Kai O’Kihei is the same, and indeed, that’s part of the attractiveness of the place, that it will always deliver what you hope for, what you expect. But an extended stay, with you as the fixed point, must certainly reveal the dramatic differences from day to day, from the colour and behaviour of the water as it reaches the beach, to the brilliance in each sunset and the night sky which follows. Well done you for taking the time to immerse yourself in this magical place. I’m sure more than a few of us would very much like to do the same! It’s always a pleasure knowing your visits are on their way, and a delight to know that you’ve settled in. All part of our enjoyment of Maui and Hale Kai O’Kihei. Thank you. Adam
A gently sloping sandy beach leads to rewarding swimming and snorkeling at Hale Kai O'Kihei (two snorkel sets are located in the bedroom closet), with low-tide opportunities to walk along the edge of the reef and experience small, beautiful aquatic life.
