“Elk Valley Ranch is an incredible adventureland for families! The open space and scenery is unparalleled and the proximity to Boulder Mountain and Capital Reef makes it possible to do more things than you thought you could in a short amount of time.
Beyond the surroundings, the beautiful converted barn (built in 2004) will exceed your expectations! It is the perfect place to bring your large family and grandchildren. The attention to details are perfect. The large open main floor of the barn is fabulous with an open beamed ceiling, antiques and comfortable furniture. The kitchen will feel like home with granite countertops and great space to prepare meals for our large group, as well as having enough seating for all at two large beautiful tables. There are great spaces for all of the adults to visit as well as kids. In the Great room is a pool table, flat screen TV/DVD, film and book libraries, game table and board games, as well as free WI FI. The spacious bathrooms are great with three sinks and in one and two in the other. The Cliff Overlook bedroom has a king size bed and the Gone Fishin' bedroom has two queens. Another queen bed is nestled in one corner of the Great Room. The loft is perfect for children who feel like they're having a sleepover.
Most meals are enjoyed on the large flower surrounded patio complete with BBQ, smoker and oversize griddle.
'Let's go to the Ranch' has become the constant cry from our family since 1970. We purchased this Ranch as a getaway from a busy life in California and a place for our kids to learn how to work hard and play hard. For over four decades the Ranch has become our family's favorite place to be. We know your family will love it too, there's a magic about the Ranch that will make you want to return.
Allan and Sandy Dietlein
Sandy Dietlein purchased this lodge in 1970
Sandy was born in Utah and along with Allan felt that owning a piece of property there would be a benefit for the family That has proved true as our 60 plus family members have all become best friends from their stays at the ranch.
It's great for families
Great for vacations
Great for adventures
My wife and I and our three kids, with three grandparents, explored Capitol Reef NP while staying at the barn. It's big, and probably perfect for large families. We had more than enough space -- could have fit ten more kids. It was cold, so we largely stayed indoors, although it seemed like there was lots to explore just outside. Highly recommended as a memorable place to stay.
We were a party three families, and had a great time. Only stayed two nights, which was too short! The owners have a great six day itinerary in the binder on the kitchen counter, wish we had enough time to do all of their suggestions. This is a quirky, personal place with interesting books and decor. The bathrooms are a bit non-typical, and we only figured out on the last day that there are door stoppers that can be used as "locks" to them. The kids loved the playroom; the hosts are very kind. It is a bit of a drive south to spots in Escalante or Boulder, but Capitol Reef is close.
This cabin was the perfect getaway for spring break! Our kids went crazy for the lofts where the kids slept and played. They loved flying kites in the surrounding fields, dyeing Easter eggs on the back patio, and swinging on the porch swing. We all felt like we had arrived at a family property, as we felt so comfortable in the cabin. It was well stocked with most everything we needed and had enough space for everyone to have room to settle in and relax. We loved the many bathrooms on the main floor as it seemed like everyone wanted to shower at the same time. The beds were very comfortable and there was dining space for everyone. We couldn't have asked for a better setting for our weekend away. Capitol Reef National Park has always been a favorite and now that we've found this cabin, we'll visit even more often. Thank you Allen and Sandy for providing such an inviting place.
Family loved it, had a great time. Would love to stay here again. Just can't say enough good things.
We stayed at the barn for a week at the end of September with my in-laws and our two year old daughter. Everyone had a wonderful time both hanging around the barn and ranch as well as exploring Capitol Reef and Boulder area. The baby loved the horses outside and climbing on all the comfy sofas and couches in the barn. We cooked at the kitchen and sat out looking at the stars at night. Decor of the place is rustic lux Western and very comfortable with lots of areas to lounge. Not child proofed per se but not hard to watch the baby with the open floor plan. The spiral stair case maybe a bit of a challenge for those not in good shape but was not a problem for us at all. There is also a bed downstairs if elderly and cannot climb the stairs. The Dietleins are fantastic hosts and very responsive to our questions. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.
This facility and location were a great place to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family. We loved the location and the herds of elk and deer that were in the fields surrounding the property. It was wonderful to feel so isolated in such a beautiful setting. The house itself was beautiful and accommodated our family and grandchildren perfectly. It has plenty of comfortable space for everyone to relax and simply be together. There was also ample room with the 2 huge bathrooms and showers so we did not feel crowded. We will hopefully be visiting again soon. We loved everything about staying there.
For those who love great hiking in slot and gorge canyons, or fishing in high mountain lakes or valley streams, or mountain biking, hunting, visiting one of America's most unique National Parks, Capitol Reef, this is the perfect place. It is Utah's best kept secret!
