We stayed for a week with our daughter and granddaughter. At first the house seemed a bit small, but we found that it was just the right size for a week's vacation. Our granddaughter enjoyed the bay beach, swimming out to the floating dock on the gentle bay waves. Lifeguards were on duty every day. For more drama we would drive to the Hampton main beach or the beach in Montauk.
The house is well stocked with kitchen supplies, towels, beach chairs and umbrellas. On a few hot steamy days the strong central air conditioning was a blessing.
The cottage itself is very nice. It is well equipped, with everything you might need. We had no trouble with internet reception. We did not barbeque outdoors, but there is a nice patio with grill. There are lots of beach chairs available. The location is excellent for those who want to get away from it all. You can walk to the nearby beach, which is on the bayside. It is rocky, but there are few people there and it is also convenient for parking with the card Elaine left. The town of East Hampton, with all its amenities, is an easy drive and during the week the ocean beach is available. It is also an easy drive out to Montauk, without having to go into town. Elaine is very helpful and responsive. She even left up a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. We would be happy to visit again.
The owner, Elaine, was lovely and very hospitable. She was very flexible with arrival/departure times as she didn't have anyone booked immediately after us, and not everyone would be so accommodating. With a young child, we really appreciated that flexibility.
The house itself isn't big, but in the summer, with a lovely patio to hang out, grill and relax on the hammock, you don't need that much space. There is however cable TV and a DVD player if you want to be indoors.
The bay beach is beautiful and just a 10-minute walk away. It's rocky, so take some shoes, but there's hardly anyone else there and there's a parking pass provided, so it's very low-key.
Plus there's a bunch of great restaurants in town and on Three-Mile Harbor Road if you don't feel like cooking.
We stayed here in August. Elaine was super easy to work with and always responded in a very timely manner. The house is spotless and comfortable. Kitchen supplies, bathroom towels included. Beds are comfortable. Bay beach was nice for a cool dip without the hassle of driving to the ocean. Bring swim shoes to navigate over the rocks. Lovely spot. We went there 2-3 times. The ocean beaches are a drive away. We went to Montauk twice-Kirk Beach - parking lot is free and we found spots easily. Beaches in Hamptons are beautiful -parking is 25 per day, but worth it. Gerard Point, close to Elaine's house is a beautiful spot to walk or bike. We walked our dog there almost daily. Very pretty spot.
Notes for improvements: Back patio could be improved with a good power wash and some newer, more inviting and comfy furniture. Gas grill would be convenient for guests.
Great restaurants in area. Also enjoyed the winery for an early evening wine tasting. Fried clams along Montauk highway and lobster rolls were a treat on the way home from the beaches in Montauk.
Lots to do in the area. We rented Wednesday-Wednesday which was a blessing, considering the traffic on 27.
The property and house were clean and the house was very convenient to the beach. We walked to and from the beach almost everyday. The surrounding towns were quaint and the restaurants were excellent. It was great place to just decompress and relax.
The owner Elaine was very nice and was easy to deal with .
I've been coming back here for years. Good place for kids, very safe. Elaine is very easy to talk to and helpful. A relaxing, quiet house and yard -- nice patio with a table for outdoor dining with friends. Lying on the hammock feels like the essence of summer.
Other things to know, not mentioned in the description: 11 Orchard Lane is in easy driving distance of Montauk Point, Hither Hills State Park, etc.; there is great bicycling in the area (bring your own bikes); and fresh local produce at farmstands in the summer. At the nearby Springs General Store (where Jackson Pollock used to shop) you can rent kayaks or canoes and paddle around the beautiful still waters of the bay. Highly recommended altogther.
