Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 2 story home nestled under tall maples and stately cedars

This urban Tree House is private and secluded, yet only 10 miles from downtown Seattle and minutes away from Lake Washington. Custom-designed to take advantage of its unique environment, the house sits in a ravine slightly below road level, surrounded on all sides by western red cedars and big leaf maples, providing ease of access with the privacy of a natural, leaf-shaded canopy. In this woodsy location, the Tree House’s contemporary design inside and outside emphasizes its location in a setting that is both rural and urban, the perfect blend for experiencing Seattle.

Simplicity is an art, and one that is needed when traveling. The Tree House does a good job of keeping the space clean, uncrowded and functional, yet architectural features such as high ceilings, large windows and exposed overhead beams supply a calming sense of space as well. Coupled with all the amenities needed for comfortable stay of a week or longer, this Seattle Tree House is the perfect home port for your return at night, or a quiet place to chill during the day.

**The Urban Tree House was featured in the National travel show 'Sweet Retreats', one of three homes in the Seattle area.

About Kirk Douglass

I've spent my life (50+ years), living and working right here in Seattle. Having taken advantage of what this area offers with a plethora of outdoor activities, moderate 4 seasons, and urban amenities, I'm constantly surprised that there is so much that I've yet done/discovered. I've put my heart and soul into this little piece of property (literally), custom designing it to take full advantage of the site. I hope it will become an important part of your Seattle experience, allowing you to enjoy the great Northwest the way the big guy upstairs intended it to be experience.

Kirk Douglass purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Kirk Douglass chose Seattle

This property gives a very unique Northwest experience. Seattle is full of little gems tucked away, not many available to the traveler to live in. My property is located in a deep ravine listed as a Critical Environmental Area. Although the Tree House is close to the road, it's still buried amongst the towering trees, giving it the privacy a thick Northwest forest provides. Walk to the back of my property and you're overwhelmed by the acres of untouched nature and year-round creek; truly a calming environment. There are not many areas you can be in the “woods” and still be in the heart of the city, 10 minutes (on a good commute, 20 on a bad) from downtown.

a TREEmendous experience

  • 5 of 5

... the treehouse was an awesome experience, hidden and secluded between the trees, it was the perfect setting for our romantic getaway. the building standard is fantastic, and it really gives you all you need for a few days away from home. upstairs you´ll find a complete kitchen, a nice little lounge area and a great terrace where you can enjoy your meal in the fresh air : )

downstairs you´ll find the bedroom, in a cozy orange color theme, with a nice bathroom, and not to forget the most important thing, the jacuzzi, nothing beats the feeling of sitting there in the dark with your loved one, and just enjoying the moment and quietness.

we loved the place, and have already booked our return :-) ...

Pretty Cool!

  • 4 of 5

This was a lovely place to stay - very private considering you are in

a family neighborhood. Lots of greenery to conceal most of the

building. The driveway was rather steep with a few bumps so was

kinda hard to maneuver. We enjoyed our stay a lot. The upstairs gets

a little warm on hot days so its nice the bedroom is on the lower level.

Thanks!

Cozy, modern tree house.

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a few days to attend a wedding. After looking at a lot of overpriced, bland condos in the city, I found this home and like it immediately. It is just north of downtown in the University district.

Kirk responded immediately and confirmed our stay. The instructions to get in were clear, and we arrived very late that first night. The home is cozy and modern at the same time, with the perfect amount of space for two people. The second story is surrounded by trees, with large picture windows on two sides of the living area.the full size kitchen is well-equipped with newer appliances. There is a small catwalk/deck with a grill and seating area.

We met on the third day....we were out most of the time. He lives on the property and is very friendly....he let us know that he was available if we had any problems.

We stayed a total of 5 nights and had a great time. We plan on returning to visit our relatives and will definitely stay here again.

Well located for exploring the city, or as a jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding area. For those wanting to experience Seattle like the locals do, the Burke-Gilman bike and walking trail is an easy mile from your home. The trail connects to countless others, taking you to the wine country of Woodinville and Redmond, the sand beaches of Golden Gardens, boat rentals at the University of Washington, or touring neighborhoods throughout the city. Lake City has its farmers market on Thursdays, a great place to stock up on fresh produce, meat, and flowers, or to get a bite from one of many food vendors. Many neighboring areas have farmers markets on other days throughout the week. Seattle has so many festivals, events and activities to enjoy year-round, and this location provides easy access. Just step out and explore!
