Overview

Lake City Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 2 story home nestled under tall maples and stately cedars

This urban Tree House is private and secluded, yet only 10 miles from downtown Seattle and minutes away from Lake Washington. Custom-designed to take advantage of its unique environment, the house sits in a ravine slightly below road level, surrounded on all sides by western red cedars and big leaf maples, providing ease of access with the privacy of a natural, leaf-shaded canopy. In this woodsy location, the Tree House’s contemporary design inside and outside emphasizes its location in a setting that is both rural and urban, the perfect blend for experiencing Seattle.

Simplicity is an art, and one that is needed when traveling. The Tree House does a good job of keeping the space clean, uncrowded and functional, yet architectural features such as high ceilings, large windows and exposed overhead beams supply a calming sense of space as well. Coupled with all the amenities needed for comfortable stay of a week or longer, this Seattle Tree House is the perfect home port for your return at night, or a quiet place to chill during the day.

**The Urban Tree House was featured in the National travel show 'Sweet Retreats', one of three homes in the Seattle area.

About Kirk Douglass

I've spent my life (50+ years), living and working right here in Seattle. Having taken advantage of what this area offers with a plethora of outdoor activities, moderate 4 seasons, and urban amenities, I'm constantly surprised that there is so much that I've yet done/discovered. I've put my heart and soul into this little piece of property (literally), custom designing it to take full advantage of the site. I hope it will become an important part of your Seattle experience, allowing you to enjoy the great Northwest the way the big guy upstairs intended it to be experience.

Kirk Douglass purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Kirk Douglass chose Northeast

This property gives a very unique Northwest experience. Seattle is full of little gems tucked away, not many available to the traveler to live in. My property is located in a deep ravine listed as a Critical Environmental Area. Although the Tree House is close to the road, it's still buried amongst the towering trees, giving it the privacy a thick Northwest forest provides. Walk to the back of my property and you're overwhelmed by the acres of untouched nature and year-round creek; truly a calming environment. There are not many areas you can be in the “woods” and still be in the heart of the city, 10 minutes (on a good commute, 20 on a bad) from downtown.

a TREEmendous experience

  • 5 of 5

... the treehouse was an awesome experience, hidden and secluded between the trees, it was the perfect setting for our romantic getaway. the building standard is fantastic, and it really gives you all you need for a few days away from home. upstairs you´ll find a complete kitchen, a nice little lounge area and a great terrace where you can enjoy your meal in the fresh air : )

downstairs you´ll find the bedroom, in a cozy orange color theme, with a nice bathroom, and not to forget the most important thing, the jacuzzi, nothing beats the feeling of sitting there in the dark with your loved one, and just enjoying the moment and quietness.

we loved the place, and have already booked our return :-) ...

We really enjoyed our stay at Urban Tree House. I'd love to stay there again the next time I'm in Seattle. It's nicely decorated, very clean, private and so comfortable and relaxing. Loved it.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband surprised me with a trip to Seattle for my birthday and we stayed in Kirk's amazing urban treehouse. I felt a peace and calm energy about the place, inspiring art work, and overall natural beauty. It was nicely tucked away from the city but not too far. The hot tub was a nice feature, soothing after a long day of being tourists. We didn't get to cook, but the kitchen was fully equipped. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for an inspiring place to stay in such a beautiful and green city.

Peaceful Retreat in Seattle

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at the Urban Tree House. I am sure we will be back. We really like it. It is very peaceful and relaxing. It feels like we are in the woods even though we are in the middle of the city. The decor is pleasant and it has all we need for a pleasant comfortable stay such as a well-appointed kitchen and washer and dryer. We really like the hot tub too, which adds a feeling of luxury. The bed is new since our previous visit and is much better. Kirk is a caring host and it is easy to communicate with him if we need anything.

Owner's Response: Nice to have you back. Your chalk art again is amazing, I take it you did get out and do some Nordic Skiing (for those that haven't seen their drawing, the subject of their art). And you are right, Texas does grow the best Pecans; thank you!

The Treehouse is everything it was said to be.

  • 5 of 5

Our time at the Treehouse was wonderful. Not only did it have every creature comfort but it was beautifully decorated and just a relaxing place to be. Since we were there over Christmas, we were able to bake and cook our favorite Christmas dishes.

Kurt was a thoughtful host and readily available for anything we might need. Thanks, Kurt!

Complete Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

Kirk's property was perfect. He included amenities that I never expected in a rental. The washer and dyer were even cute..with their happy little song when their cycles were complete and detergent was provided. The basket weave tile and towel warming heater in the bathroom and the space saving shower doors were all appreciated...as well as the shower gel that smelled awesomely fresh! The fully stocked kitchen included all the K cup style coffee that we drink, several different cooking oils and a complete spice rack. We even enjoyed the whipped topping and honey in our coffee. The dishes included stainless steel cookware and 2 strainers. A beautiful floral arrangement was the best welcome a girl could get. Even a world map to pull down for a bedroom window shade. Kirk even visited the home to turn on a dishnetwork tv box that had been inadvertently shut off. I loved this property!

Well located for exploring the city, or as a jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding area. For those wanting to experience Seattle like the locals do, the Burke-Gilman bike and walking trail is an easy mile from your home. The trail connects to countless others, taking you to the wine country of Woodinville and Redmond, the sand beaches of Golden Gardens, boat rentals at the University of Washington, or touring neighborhoods throughout the city. Lake City has its farmers market on Thursdays, a great place to stock up on fresh produce, meat, and flowers, or to get a bite from one of many food vendors. Many neighboring areas have farmers markets on other days throughout the week. Seattle has so many festivals, events and activities to enjoy year-round, and this location provides easy access. Just step out and explore!

Your choice of down comforter or blanket, down or fiber-filled pillows. We really tried to make it luxurious. It has a small closet, a six-drawer dresser and plenty of storage for luggage and more under the lift-and-store platform bed. Cable TV, alarm clock with 2 USB ports for phone charging, clock radio, his-and-her reading lamps. The bedroom is the only room that has a privacy shade for the window (go figure!).
