Fairfax Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Guest House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Beautiful inside and out! This sunny, garden guest house is a high-end vacation property -- nothing old or funky about it; modern construction, with high quality appliances and fixtures (built in 2012). It is situated on a large, sunny lot landscaped with gardens and patios to feel like a resort. The Honey Bee was designed with privacy in mind -- from both the main house and the neighbors, and has its own private patio with furniture and a bbq; like your own vacation island. Built in 2010 to code, including a fire suppression sprinkler system. The furnishings were purchased new, and the art is locally sourced. You'll love the high ceilings, fireplace, granite counters, and natural light, -- a generous 650 sq. ft. with lots of closet space. It even has it's own laundry area, as well as off-street parking. You won't want to leave.

Please check out our reviews; we get wonderful 5-star feedback about both the guest house and the gardens. Even if you are visiting on business, you can feel like you are on vacation.

Voted Best Marin Town in 2011 -- the quaint village of Fairfax is lively, with one main intersection, lots of great places to eat (health food, Indian, Thai, Mexican, Italian, and more), a 6-screen movie theater, several live-music clubs/bars, multiple coffee houses and bike shops, grocery stores, a weekly farmer’s market, several yoga studios, and a large new, upscale health food store. The town is surrounded by nature and miles of hiking and biking trails on and around Mt. 'Tam' (the birth place of mountain biking over 30 years ago).

Centrally located in sunny Marin County's best weather area, Fairfax is a destination in it's own right. And it offers easy access to the entire Bay Area -- San Francisco (by car, bus, or ferry), 'the Bay,' Mount Tamalpais State Park, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, West Marin and Point Reyes National Seashore, the Pacific Coast beaches at Stinson Beach, Muir Beach, or Bolinas, and the world-famous Napa/Sonoma Wine Country. And don't forget the other charming towns in Marin, including Sausalito, Mill Valley, San Anselmo, Larkspur and San Rafael.

About Amanda Martin

My husband and I love living in Fairfax. We raised 2 girls who loved growing up here. We feel so lucky to live in a place that really has it all. Our favorite toast to each other is 'Living the Good Life.'

Amanda Martin purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Amanda Martin chose The Bay Area

The sunny mild weather (Fairfax was originally a community of summer homes for people from San Francisco) and walking distance to downtown Fairfax. The large, private, flat lot. The quiet neighborhood with large trees. The friendly community vibe.

What makes this cottage unique

Fairfax is unique. Fairfax's motto on t-shirts and bumper stickers is 'Only in Fairfax.'

Peaceful, beautiful, and walking distance to shopping and restaurants

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a nice quiet location to celebrate our 40th anniversary and the Honey Bee could not have been more perfect. This wonderful cottage is equipped with everything you could ask for and the gardens are beautiful. Our biggest decision of the morning was which patio area to have our coffee. Located in a very quiet residential area, but certainly close enough to walk downtown where there are grocery stores, unique shops, amazing restaurants and great places to have a coffee and pastry. I would recommend this cottage and location to anyone with access to a vehicle.

Quiet upscale hideaway in Marin County

  • 5 of 5

The Honey Bee Guest House was just as described in the listing. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely stay there again. The owner, Amanda, was easy to communicate with, and even though she was not home when we checked in, the instructions she provided were perfect, and we had no problems getting settled. The guest house is new, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. We stayed for 6 nights and felt that we could have stayed much longer and still have been quite comfortable. There is a laundry room available in the basement of the main house, and it is readily accessible through a door close to the guest house without disturbing the owner. The neighborhood is quiet with lots of beautiful trees, and the house gardens are sunny and inviting. We were on the go and didn't get to spend much time relaxing, but we did enjoy a few tomatoes that we picked in the garden. It is a short walk to downtown Fairfax, and we had fun shopping at Good Earth Natural Foods. It is a short drive (15 to 30 min) from Fairfax to anywhere in Marin County; we had dinner in Sausalito twice and took the ferry from Larkspur to downtown San Fran to take in the Saturday morning farmers market. All in all, highly recommended!

Fantastic private cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Honey Bee with my three year old son earlier this month and had a completely wonderful experience.

The cottage is private and very well appointed. We were here for a week in early July and some days were quite warm, but the large ceiling fans kept both the living space and bedroom very comfortable and we both slept very well here.

I was a little worried we would be living on top of one another while we shared a one bedroom, but that wasn't the case at all. It is well thought out and there was plenty of room for my son to play and for my parents to come over to visit.

We also really enjoyed the several sitting areas in the gardens -the gardens are great! We enjoyed the shade of the beautiful fig trees and really enjoyed watching the bees do their work.

The owners were extremely accommodating and welcoming, and overall we had a very relaxing stay here. I love this area and this was great neighborhood, very quiet and peaceful.

Thank you for letting us create memories of a great trip home at the Honey Bee. We loved it!

A perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage. It was charming and tastefully furnished, and had all of the essentials needed in the kitchen. The flower gardens and sitting areas were beautiful. There are even honey bee hives in the garden.

Loved the location. You are actually in a neighborhood so you feel like you live here. We enjoyed walking the streets and redwood forests. We were in Fairfax for a wedding. Our cottage was within walking distance to Deerwood....where wedding was held!

Amanda was the ultimate host! She provided us with all kinds of information. Where to walk, eat, shop, even how much time to allow to return rental car in SF.

I would highly recommend Honey Bee cottage. It's the model for VRBO!

Simply perfect

  • 5 of 5

Came from Los Angeles for a long weekend and left feeling like we'd had a much longer vacation. Managed to get to the city one day, explore Marin area the third and ended in Berkeley. The honeybee was the perfect location to explore. The home itself is just gorgeous; top notch high end details, impeccably clean, great kitchen, lovely deck area and quiet garden surroundings. Owners were not there but were 100% attentive and responsive. I had changed emails and missed a payment deadline and they were extremely understanding and easygoing. Overall, this property was fantastic and we would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful, tidy, clean, warm and hasslefree

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 3.5y old daughter and I were in the process of moving out of our FFX house and needed a place to decompress that was still near home. The Honey Bee was not only as beautiful as described, but it was an oasis from the stress of moving. We got there late afternoon after moving all day in the rain and the lovely warm gas fire was waiting to welcome us. The kitchen was more than complete, the bed super comfortable, and my daughter slept on the pull out sofa without issue. I can't say enough positive things about Amanda and The Honey Bee guest house. If I had to say something negative, I 'd come up blank. Thank you Amanda, for making our last few days in Fairfax well rested and comforting!

The Bay Area has it all!!! Fairfax is a destination in its own right (with great weather), and also an excellent home base for visiting and vacationing in the Bay Area. Enjoy SF culture, natural beauty galore, the Bay and Ocean, explore Marin, and tour the Wine Country -- or stay 'home' and nap on the garden patio.
