Why Ned Towle chose West Cornwall
This part of New England is beautiful and quaint and the cottage, brook, river, and West Cornwall town are a wonderful rural get-away. The cottage is surrounded by lovely woods and is a quiet place for relaxation and being in touch with nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
We like the sound of the bubbling brook, the quiet of the woods, sitting on the deck surrounded by an amphitheater of 100 foot tall trees, jogging along the dirt road on the other side of the Housatonic River, walking through our woods or down our road to the River, the Covered Bridge and shops in West Cornwall, kayaking and rafting on the River, hiking the nearby trails, going to the movies in Millerton, and visiting the nearby towns of Lakeville, Salisbury, Sharon, Kent, Amenia and Millerton.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, and fully equipped with everything we needed for the week, just as advertised. The location was excellent, being centered among quaint towns and natural sights, and close enough to enjoy an afternoon swim at the pond. We are really happy to have found this spot.
Very happy to have had you as a guest at the cottage.
Nice days around river
Very nice location...
It was a pleasure having Jose and friends at our cottage.
This place suited our simple needs perfectly. Attention to detail was much appreciated, clearly a woman's hand was behind this. The furniture and decore were not to our taste and the lighting leaves much to be desired but this was not relevant to our limited requirements. The beds were most satisfactory.
Sweet and Cozy, Problem with Ventilation in Bedrooms
We spent a nice weekend in the cottage with our kids. The cottage is sweet and cozy, and the owner is super responsive and kind. The yard lawn is amazing and so is the creek. In the cottage all was comfortable to cook, relax, eat and just be together. The WI-FI was very good and the location was fine (although we expected it to be very quiet and it is actually near a road so we heard cars passing close by the house). We enjoyed the free pass to Sharon beach very much- what a nice spot!!
The only thing that bothered us during our experience at the cottage was the quality of the air in the bedrooms- there was a strong smell of mold (probably rising from the basement) and it was very difficult to get rid of it because the bedroom windows do not open at all.
Thanks for a sweet and cozy weekend in your lovely cottage
ady and the family .
Glad you enjoyed your stay, the cottage, lawn, brook and beach. If you want to return, I would note that each of the bedrooms has an air conditioner that can be used as a fan to bring in fresh air and that the bedroom window by the brook opens.
As I believe you noticed, there is no mold in the living quarters. Sorry if you experienced a musty smell; I will give the basement a scrub down and that should take care of any problem.
Retreat in the woods
House was exactly as advertised plus a great lawn for activities. Thanks!
What a little gem.
The cottage is just as described: comfy, rustic and charming. The large lawn allows for plenty of sunlight while the woods give a sense of seclusion. The kitchen is spacious and has all the basics and the bathroom is stocked almost like a hotel. (There's even a hair dryer available.) On the deck the table and chairs (both dining and Adirondack) are comfortable and the umbrella provides ample shade.
Ned & Linda are the most welcoming hosts we've never met. They've thought of everything to make staying there as comfortable as possible. From detailed lists of where to find things in the cottage (such as aluminum foil or extra blankets) to local tourist maps to accompany the information packets they've written out with suggestions for where to go and things to do.
We liked it so much we even considered not writing this review because we don't want to run the risk of it selling out before we can book it again. Lol.
Thanks Ned & Linda for doing so much to make our experience special. We'll be making our reservations early next year.
Other activities include: walking, jogging, or biking along Upper River Road which runs three miles alongside the Housatonic River in West Cornwall; walking, jogging or biking on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail; visiting and walking in the Emily Winthrop MilesWildlife Sanctuary, 4 miles away; hiking the Appalachian Trail which passes through West Cornwall. Winter activities: The cottage is 10 minutes from the Mohawk Mountain Ski Area - 5 trails, 4 lifts and $30 lift tickets; and 45 minutes from Butternut Basin in Great Barrington, MA, and Catamount Ski Area in Hillsdale, NY.; there is snowshoeing or XC skiing at the Harlem Valley Rail Trail; and horse-drawn sleigh rides through the New England countryside at Loon Meadow Farm in Norfolk.
