It is secluded, but easily accessible, peaceful, quiet and beautifully landscaped. Everyone who comes, finds it to be a paradise and much more than the photos indicated. The 1000 sf. duplex is clean and tastefully furnished. As you enter your own private entrance into the great room, with 20' ceiling, you will find a very comfortable, spacious seating area looking out to an intimate Japanese Garden. There is a separate dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs is a large bedroom with a queen size bed and stocked with fine linens. The second bedroom has a double bed and large skylight and a contemporary tiled, skylit bathroom with luxurious Egyptian towels. The Hudson River is nearby as are trains to NYC. Skiing can be found at several local mtns and golf courses are abundant. We've got miles of rail trails to hike or bike. HITS is nearby and really something to see in the summer/fall months. The fall colors here will blow your mind. This area is truly a four season get away and this property is very special! Now that HomeAway is taking "service fees" from renters, which is generally not a small amount, to save renters that fee, I ask for payment by check sent directly to me. If you still want to use a credit card and pay that service fee, that's fine. I just wanted to offer a less expensive option to renters.
The artist in residence, Ruth, built this magical place and has improved it yearly for 40 plus years now. Her paintings are hung throughout the home. You won't likely see her while there unless you need something. Wonderful host!
When you gaze out on the lake and the mountains you will know why she built here and has never left.
Secluded, quiet, wooded, lake, pool, minutes to it all.
Our labor day weekend felt like an oasis at Ruth's property in Saugerties. Her wonderful property sits on several acres of land surrounded by tall trees as well as a lake and mountain views. Walking the property with our two dogs, who absolutely loved it, we felt relaxed and surrounded by nature. The rental is comfortable and cozy with all the basics and a spacious kitchen that is ideal for cooking. We took several trips to neighboring towns, such as Woodstock and Hudson, which are a short drive away and had a great time shopping and dining. Overall, Ruth and Max (her adorable and very friendly German Shepherd dog) were wonderful and gracious hosts.
My husband and I recently stayed at Ruth's property for a week so that we could have a quiet, secluded place to write as I needed to work on my PhD thesis. We brought our two dogs and they LOVED it, Ruth's property is entirely fenced in so it was great and we could just go out and play fetch or let the dogs jump in the lake. The pool is really nice and it was great to take a break from writing and go swimming in the afternoons. The property is conveniently located in between the town of Saugerties and Woodstock which both have shops and good restaurants. It's also pretty close to Kingston, which is a great town and we recommend checking that out on Saturdays for the farmer's market. Would definitely recommend Ruth's place, it is very quiet and the gardens and property itself are quite picturesque. The apartment is really open and stays quite cool so we didn't have to use the air conditioner very much either.
Ruth is wonderful! She was very accomodating of me and my Family. Her home is beautifully decorated and the landscaping around the house is very well kept. Her home is near woodstock which has some really nice shops and places to eat(check out Garden Cafe). Ruth was always a phone call away when we needed anything. With ample space for outdoor activities or just lounging, this is a perfect for a getaway from the city. Would love to visit her place again in the near future.
First of the property is AMAZING!! As stated in the description definitely secluded, definitely accessible. The grounds are just magical. It was perfect coming from NYC looking to relax and get away from the daily "noise". Ruth is just a wealth of knowledge and wonderful stories of days gone by,,The absolute perfect hostess.Myself, husband and dog cannot wait for our return trip,,There are plenty of shops and restaurants in early Woodstock as well. The Red Onion is excellent...Anyway I can go on and on,,Fabulous spot!!
My son, husband and mother recently stayed here over a long weekend. It was a wonderful trip and we all very much enjoyed our stay! Ruth was an excellent host, very accommodating but also gave us our space which is was exactly what we needed. The pool was wonderful for our 3 year old son, and the lush and tranquil setting really allowed my husband and I to relax and enjoy being in nature. The space was comfortable, spacious and well appointed. We loved grilling out in the evenings too. We are looking forward to returning soon!
This is my first visit to the Hudson Valley and to Artists Lake Retreat! We was pleasantly surprised how much more beautiful, in and out, then the pictures showed and the amount of privacy! The mountain views, the lake and the pool were fabulous!! Meeting Ruth and seeing her paintings was really nice. It was such a great, short drive, getaway from the hectic city. We definitely will be back real soon! Oh, the linens/pillows were the most comfortable!! I will have to find out on my next visit what brand :)
Wonderful location for this beautiful home. Tucked way back in the woods with no neighbors to be seen. Fronting on a private 14 acre lake with an available canoe. Minutes to eclectic little towns to shop and great restaurants. The property is to die for with 40 plus years of landscaping and plantings to enjoy. Beyond a gorgeous location.
