In short I am sharing with you everything I require for myself, being a bit spoiled!
The street Melhagi is one of the most sought after location in Reykjavik.
A prime location.
Two minutes walk to the popular geochemical swimming pool Vesturbæjarlaugin, with steam room and sauna. Next to a great supermarket, café and a pharmacy.
Three minutes walk to Radisson SAS, where the fly bus stops.
20 minutes walk to the center of Reykjavík
My name is Gísli Örn Lárusson. I am Icelandic.
For past twelve years I have been spending most of time time abroad in London where I have a base, but do travel a lot.
Still my heart is were my home is in my apartment at Melhagi Reykjavík, where most of my personal things are - apart from my books, which I have not managed to unpack.
You will no doubt note that in my apartment Buddha is dominating, for the reason that his wisdom has influenced greatly my own life.
I do sincerely hope that you will feel comfortable in my tranquil home
Gísli purchased this apartment in 2007
This property is different from most apartments offered in Reykjavík, designed to host guests mainly during the summer season.
My apartment is my home, where I am offering to share with you, as mentioned above.
My sister Erna Svala, who is moving back to Iceland first week in July after having lived in various places for past 14 years.
She will be managing my apartment, living only 5 minutes away
Her profile includes for example - She will be delighted to advice, arrange and recoman where to go for dinner etc.
British Embassy in Denmark
April 2008 – August 2010 (2 years 5 months)
I organised all events, dinner parties and other gatherings done by the British Embassy plus other companies working in co-operation with the Embassy. I was also in charge of running the Residence of the British Embassy and the staff working there
We loved our stay here. Gisli and his grandson Beggi are responsive to questions and are very helpful. There is wonderful artwork on the walls, meditative Buddhas, and light from the windows. We were comfortable and 20 minutes walking distance from Reykjavik center. Located near a cafe at the end of the street with coffee, pastries and wifi. Also in walking distance is a neighborhood store and the coast line in the other direction close by. The address is within walking distance of the Raddison Saga Blu Hotel so one can be picked up there conveniently for tours or for taking the bus back and forth from the airport. Note: The apartment is above another and so one must be careful not to make too much noise late at night.
Much better value than a hotel. Host was accommodating on early arrival. Written information on trash removal and oven operation would be helpful.
Beautiful apartment host very gracious. Jodi's was very helpful. Calm and welcoming approach to Vrbo rental. Will likely return
The owner, Gisli was very easy to communicate with and was very responsive. I was met the day I arrived by Gisli's nephew who was extremely nice and helpful. The apartment is very comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and a very good shower. The coffee pot is a French press. There is a small grocery around the corner from the apartment called Melabúðin, which served all of our needs. If you plan on cooking dinner, buy any of their delicious seafood. Within 5 min. walk is Radisson Blu Saga hotel where you can be picked up for all of your tours. Some tips: Favorite restaurants: Kaffivagninn on the waterfront for lunch. It is located by the Coast Guard ships. Excellent seafood. For about 26 Icelandic krona you will get soup, a delicious hot lunch (we loved the artic charr) and coffee. Happy hour in town: The English Pub from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Best lamb dinner, Geyser in the heart of town. On Thursdays visit the famous and beautiful Hallgrimskirkja church at 12:00 noon for meditation followed by lunch. We enjoyed the Saga museum for the history of Icelandic settlers. When we took the bus tour to see the Northern Lights, we were lucky to have a spectacular one hour light show! Hopefully you will see the same. All of our bus tours were just great! Don't miss the Blue Lagoon. The people of Iceland are warm and friendly. There is no need to change your money if you use credit cards, since even the smallest purchase can be made on a credit card. If you wish to buy wine/beer/spirits, the easiest place is the duty free shop upon arrival, since there are hardly any liquor stores in town.
Stayed here from Dec 26-Jan 1. Set back in a quiet residential area, about a 20-min walk to downtown, which was easy to do. Coordinated with the owner easily via email/text to arrive and depart. The unit itself was spacious. Nice foyer leads into anteroom. There is an office and living, both of which we did not use because we were always out exploring Iceland. The bedroom was a nice size and has plenty of cabinets/closets to hang your stuff, so you're not living out of a suitcase. The bathroom was modern and also spacious. Kitchen has a nice 4-person table and all the tools to make a meal, if you chose. The location is PERFECT for New Year's Eve...Iceland allows fireworks and the entire city was illuminated by a huge show, with their citizens lighting fireworks in the streets. Also for New Year's Eve, walk (5-10min south) to a great bonfire in a public space where many gathered to stay warm and watch the fireworks. I would highly recommend staying here!
Radison SASm Hotel Saga, has a spa, treatment centre and a hairdresser.
Melabúdin, a great supermarket is 3 minutes walk.
5 minutes walk to the seaside, where a walking, running, biking track is around Reykjavik
