Roaring Fork Chalet is named after the 200 ft. waterfall directly behind the chalet. In the winter you can hear the waterfalls and the relaxing effects are something only Mt Mitchell can bring to your soul. In the summer you can escape the heat and cool yourself off in the high mountains of the Great Smoky National Forest which borders the property line.
The chalet has a loft master bedroom with a locally grown and built red cedar king size log bed. In the mornings you wake up to a beautiful view of Mt. Mitchell and the huge valley below. Sip your coffee as the clean cool mountain air gently wakes you up.
Hike some of the local trails which are everywhere. Wade in the mountain creeks and rivers in the cool mountain water. Visit some of the most scenic waterfalls in the world as there are three very close to the chalet. Roaring Fork Falls, Setrock Falls and Crabtree Creek Falls are all less than ten minutes away. If you're up for a mountain hike you can hike from the chalet Roaring Fork Falls behind the chalet.
Come spend time in total peace and quiet away from your daily routine.
I live outside of Asheville, NC. I love to hike, ride mountain bikes, play with my chocolate lab Nellie and orange tabby BB, cook and enjoy entertain family and friends. I thoroughly enjoy talking about these old mountains and all they have to offer, so please don't hesitate to ask me any and all of your questions.
Ron Mashburn purchased this chalet in 2006
I bought this chalet in order to get away from it all. Getting back to nature, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and enjoying a round of golf every now and then was a priority.
I enjoy the peace and quite. The fresh air and there's always a gentle cool breeze blowing. Sitting on the front deck and looking at the peak of Mt Mitchell has always relaxed me as well as my family and friends.
Thanks for much for the wonderful night at your chalet. It made our 5th anniversary perfect!
Hope to return soon.
Absolutely wonderful and quaint place to enjoy our stay. Very well-appointed and romantic.
Huge kudos to Ron Mashburn for providing my friend and me with a truly fabulous NC mountain experience. Right from the beginning I felt that this property was special, and I was not mistaken.
I received a virtually instantaneous response to every single communication I sent to Ron prior to, during, and even after our stay. He was unfailingly warm, positive, and ready to help in any way. The directions to the home, and the instructions once we arrived, were organized and detailed. The chalet itself is utterly charming: spacious, impeccably clean & fresh, and truly beautiful. The level of thought and care that had been put into the smallest details (right down to night lights in the bathroom and at the stairs to the loft!) made us feel secure, comfortable, and very much at home. This is a lovely home that even smells wonderful! You can be very content simply staying put (with lots of room inside, as well as a peaceful, tranquil deck and a friendly fire-pit). Or, there are many things to do in the area, especially if you enjoy nature - starting with the not-to-be-missed Roaring Forks waterfall, which is conveniently close to the house and involves a completely non-strenuous half-mile stroll on an old logging road to the falls.
A couple of notes for prospective guests: 1) Despite what your GPS says, if you are coming from Asheville and, like us Floridians, are NOT used to driving winding, twisty steep mountain roads, the time it takes to come south to the chalet through Burnsville is absolutely the same - and far & away less nail-biting! - than the trip north via Marion. 2) The secondary road up to the chalet is steep and winding, but it's paved every bit of the way and isn't difficult (even for us flatlanders, who didn't feel the need to put the car into 2nd gear once - even in the rain!). 3) Not only were we unused to mountainous terrain, but (even more embarrassingly) we seem to be directionally challenged on occasion, and despite the very clear instructions it took a while to actually FIND the back door! Just in case any other visitors should be similarly disadvantaged, from the parking area walk to the LEFT end of the house and around the corner, and - voila. :))
Ron, many thanks again for all your assistance, for the serenity of your beautiful mountain paradise, and for being - so - NICE!
I definitely intend to come back.
The cabin was perfect for the four of us. We spent a lot of time at the fire pit and enjoying the amazing views of Mt. Mitchell. The snow on the ground was an added bonus for the views.
The cabin had everything we needed, and was quite comfortable.
We would definitely recommend a visit.
My boyfriend and I had a nice time with our dog at the chalet. A pretty location with lots of hiking options. The cabin itself is rustic with all of the necessary amenities. My boyfriend and also my cousin who visited for a day both said that it definitely seemed like a hunter's cabin, with the chosen decor and overall feel. The beds were nice and comfy. My only complaint is that the cabin wasn't as clean as I would have liked, cobwebs and dust were pretty abundant, the bathtub didn't seem super clean and I went to grab a saucepan lid and there was grease splatters all over it. Overall good experience though.
My wife and I stayed at the chalet for 4 nights. The chalet was clean upon arrival and is tucked away nicely in the mountains. It had everything u needed and the location is the best part. We were about a 5 min drive to the blueridge parkway. We were both very pleased with our stay and we plan on coming back. Excellent value and excellent location if you want to get disconnected and enjoy nature this is the place to go. Only knock on the place is the WiFi being unreliable.
My husband and I stayed for a 4 day weekend and really enjoyed ourselves.
We cooked every meal while there, and ate them all on the deck. The deck has a lovely view, outdoor speakers, and plenty of space. We had amazing weather so we were lucky enough to spend the majority of our time outside.
Basically everything we needed in the kitchen was provided. The kitchen is small and a bit cramped while cooking, but 1 person can fit in there to cook. That's all we needed! Plus there's a dishwasher so that is very helpful! We used the grill on the deck to make a couple meals and that is quite handy. There were very few nearby choices for dining out, but we expected that and brought groceries. The trip to Marion is long due to winding roads (not mileage), but its not too bad if needed or wanted (we went for delicious ice cream!).
Access to the Parkway is quite close. We hiked at Craggie Gardens, Crabtree Falls, and Linville Falls, all off the Parkway. All were not too far for day trips and all are awesome. We also went to Roaring Fork Falls near the cabin and its lovely and secluded.
The neighbors ARE close. I assume this is often not an issue, as you can't really SEE them...but during our stay the neighbors were partying constantly and incredibly loud. This was a bit annoying, but not the chalet's fault in any way. It was Memorial weekend so I assume they were there to party (and possibly a rental also).
The Master bed is divine - so comfortable. We did not use the other room, but we love that we could invite friends here to join us in the future if we want. It would be fine for 4 people.
We brought our 2 dogs and they had a great time. They got to roam around outside, sleep in the sun on the deck, and go hiking with us. They were happy pups! Mainly they just came inside to sleep after exhausting days.
We did use the provided firepit and that is another great feature - we enjoyed that quite a bit.
We had absolutely no AT&T service (nowhere nearby), but the available wifi helped us be able to watch Netflix a couple times. Since we came here to get away, being a bit disconnected was lovely.
I would say that if you're looking for a small, rustic place to relax and be near hiking, this is the place for you. We'll definitely be back.
Tons of hiking and mountain biking trails. Trailhead to Mt Mitchell only two miles from chalet.
