About Claire and Malcolm Hendry
Claire, husband Malcolm and their family are Caribbean nationals who have lived and worked in several West Indian countries including Barbados, Jamaica and the Commonwealth of Dominica. Our diverse backgrounds reflect in our lifestyle. We enjoy the island way of life, culture and history and the long hours of daylight year round; wonderful climate and food. Our many 'roots' are firmly Caribbean!
Claire and Malcolm Hendry purchased this Villa in 2012
Why Claire and Malcolm Hendry chose Vuemont
Here we enjoy a quiet, relaxed lifestyle on the beautifully landscaped Vuemont estate with pools, gym and tennis courts; cool breezes through the patio and villa year round, and with little effort, access to the great array of choices that Barbados offers its visitors - a visual, cultural and culinary cornucopia! 'Island Breeze' is furnished as if we live there - it is our island home. We are happy to share this lovely slice of Caribbean island life with like-minded visitors.
What makes this Villa unique
'Island Breeze' is spacious and because of it's elevated location enjoys cooling breezes year round, which form a pleasant contrast to coastal areas. The lovely views, privacy, excellent facilities and landscaping, amenities and security at Vuemont help to make this a wonderful vacation location. Island Breeze is a short stroll to the estate's infinity pool, gym and tennis courts. From our patio we enjoy uninterrupted views across one of Barbados' famous gulleys (dry streams) and the cane fields to All Saints Church in one direction, and the Caribbean sea in another. With all this, we are just 20 minutes from the capital Bridgetown, still closer to west coast beaches, and to the many island attractions. With so many roads, we can easily access all parts of Barbados. Our home is your home. Come and enjoy. Please treat it with the same love and care!

Loving the Island Breeze
We stayed at this property for three weeks and you really need to see it to believe it The property outside and inside was as described and as depicted on the website. However, one can only understand how great the property is until you have experienced it. True to its name, it is the ‘Island Breeze’. We had the pleasure of feeling the breeze every day as this property is situated on a ridge. The view from the veranda is delightful with beautiful flowers and around dusk you can see monkeys foraging about.
Claire and Malcolm are extremely engaged hosts and while this was our first long-term stay at a home from VRBO, any and all questions were thoroughly answered and any concerns we might have had were laid to rest. Having two small children (7 and 5 years old) we were concerned about safety and security and this community of properties is very well-maintained and secure. We met a number of owners, local folks visiting and of course the staff and everyone was extremely friendly and personable.
The children had a wonderful time experiencing the infinity pool (approx 40 steps away) and tennis courts.
The amenities within the property are also very clean and well-maintained. Kitchen is fully equipped; bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed. Truly one would have no issue staying there and to our pleasant surprise there was a fridge with the basics of what we needed such as milk, eggs, bread etc.
When staying in Barbados it is advisable to have a car in general but in particular to get to this place, a car is necessary.
Finally, as stated, Claire and Malcolm are very good hosts and take the utmost care to ensure their guests are well-served by the property. Their property manager, Jeanne was wonderful and also very attentive to any questions or concerns we had on the ground once we arrived.
All in all, a wonderful experience at Island Breeze. If you are considering going to Barbados, this is truly the best place to stay.
Thank you for taking the time to write this detailed review. This is much appreciated, and we will pass your compliments to our property manager and other staff who work with her to maintain 'Island Breeze'. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again.

Great home and wonderful back porch
We stayed for a week at Claire's and Malcolm's home. Ahead of time, the info sent and booking was easy and the owners were very receptive and responded quickly to any questions. The property manager met us at the home to give some explanations and was kind enough for leave some basic groceries which was greatly appreciated since we arrived late evening. My husband had to hug her as she had bought a few Banks beers so he was in heaven! The home is a great size with spacious bedrooms with air conditioning that work really well in each bedroom. The back porch looking into the yard and landscaping are wonderful. Big table on porch for breakfast or dinner or playing board games. The bed and linens and towels were also very good. The kitchen had every dish, pan and cooking item imaginable - best so far in 4 years of VRBO rentals. The booking was easy and lots of good information from the owners in advance. The property is farther away from beaches than we normally stay, but fact that is was quiet, secure and had a grocery store a couple of minutes drive was awesome. Neighbours were friendly as well. And our teenagers enjoyed the pool area. Beautiful 28C days every day. One item that could be improved would be to have beach chairs available to bring with us as there were none. The beach towels were large and there was a cooler, so we made it work. Overall, a really wonderful home with plenty of room and great amenities. Would love to return and book this home again!
We are very pleased you enjoyed 'Island Breeze', and thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay.

Wonderful villa, equipped perfectly for long or short stays.
We spent most of February 2019 in the Hendry's villa at Veumont and loved it. The villa was well equipped to cook and Jeanne, the property manager, even left us some food to start off after a hard day on the plane. The back patio is incredible, overlooking a raven with monkeys and birds and flowers. The villa is called Island Breeze for a reason -- it's incredibly windy, which is lovely --no humidity! And the location is amazing, the pool is right across the street. We had a great time and thank Malcolm and Claire for sharing their villa.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay at 'Island Breeze' Michelle. We are very pleased you had such a good visit, and hope to welcome you back another time. Best wishes, Claire and Malcolm
Great villa to stay in.
Very roomy, well equipped. Always a breeze coming in. Very private back deck. Pool area right across the street very nice. Everything clean, tidy. Friendly neighbors! Only thing missing is a BBQ which we really missed!
Many thanks for your kind comments Susan, also, for leaving the property in such excellent condition when you departed. We hope to welcome you back on a future visit.

I am confirming without a doubt that this is absolutely the best way to enjoy the best that Barbados has to offer
Amazing villa and facilities
We stayed at Island Breeze for just about 2 weeks. Everything about it was great; pre-arrival information package from Claire and Malcolm, service during our stay and the villa + surroundings are just as seen in the pictures...actually even better! Highly recommended.
Veronique, thank you for your lovely comments about our Caribbean home. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Island Breeze and hope that you will return.
Island Breeze provides you with easy access to the magnificent white sand of west coast beaches including Mullins, Paynes Bay and Sandy Lane, also, the spectular scenery of North Point, the east coast and Bathsheba.
St Nicholas Abbey - a carefully preserved plantation estate, steeped in history with guided tours featuring sugar and rum production is 15 minutes from Vuemont; so too, is the Sir Frank Hutson sugar museum and Arlington House, an 18th century 'Great House' museum. Codrington College on the east coast - and the Barbados Museum in Bridgtown also provide great insight to island history. The Barbados Wildlife Reserve and Flower Forest show off the animals and plants of the island. At the reserve, if you do not see them in the wild, you will find the Barbados green monkeys. Harrisons Caves offers a comfortable tour of the world beneath your feet.
Top class golf courses on the west coast include Royal Westmoreland, Apes Hill and Sandy Lane.
Should you need a culinary treat, eating options can be found a short ride from Vuemont along the nearby west coast, from homestyle 'Bajan' cuisine to international fare with local ingredients and menus.
Barbados has sailing, boating, surfing and wind-surfing, fishing, scuba diving, submersible dives on 'Atlantis', international music festivals, polo, cricket, horse racing, art galleries, duty free shopping, museums, sports bars, night clubs featuring local and regional music, the ‘Cropover’ festival which marks the end of the sugar cane season…..and so much more.
We and our property manager will be happy to make suggestions if needed on things to do and see, to assist the enjoyment of your visit to Barbados and 'Island Breeze'.
