Eden Paradise Retreat is a private natural wonderland just three miles from the historic gold mining town of Julian, CA. It has a comfortable cottage surrounded by 16 acres of pristine natural garden, all behind a locked gate and all for your exclusive use and enjoyment, with a panoramic, birds-eye view of Vulcan Mountain, Granite Mountain, Banner Grade Valley below, and even Mount Laguna off in the distance. It is like being on top of the world, and the view is literally fantastic.
There are two private parks with paths and adventure trails leading to seated viewing spots and lookouts. One park has a walk-in aviary with doves and two little goats to take on walks with leashes. Both parks are native, botanical gardens to explore and enjoy. Just outside the backdoor is a large fire ring and barbeque with some firewood and briquettes provided.
The cottage is 1120 square feet and will comfortably accommodate 1 or 2 couples or a small family. It has well water, a fully equipped kitchen, small laundry room with washer and dryer, and two bathrooms, one with a large bathtub and bubble bath. It has one large bedroom with a California king-size featherbed, a small den or bedroom, a family room with a large futon, a living room with books, LP's and record player, satellite TV, CD and DVD player, a large wood stove and a telescope with 400 and 900 magnification lenses.
There will be a ready to make country breakfast with fresh eggs, buttermilk pancake makings, potatoes, a loaf of freshly baked bread, butter, jams, and coffee. Also there will be a basket of apples, a half gallon of fresh cold apple cider, and a Julian apple pie and ice cream for when you first arrive.
My boyfriend and I booked this place this past weekend for a spontaneous getaway from Orange County and loved every second of it! From the breathtaking views to the charming digs (art-filled walls, wood-burning stove/fireplace, Aztec rugs and tapestries, vintage record player with the most impressively extensive vinyl collection), we were in our own little Heaven from the minute we arrived.
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the passionate owners of the property, a freshly baked Apple Pie, raw cider, and a basket of brown eggs from the chickens in the aviary up the hill, which we were able to visit and feed if we wished. (Of course we took advantage of that!) The goats were a hoot as well and provided some entertainment as we attempted to "walk" them amidst their obvious sibling rivalry and headbutting.
We were entertained enough that we struggled to leave the place to check out the cute Main St. downtown. Doug takes much pride in the miles of various hiking trails he single-handedly carved into the 16-acre property, and there is a very cute gnome and fairy theme throughout to keep with the overall charm of the place. I particularly appreciated the herb garden and white sage that grew just outside the front door. We had the most delicious thyme potatoes with our barbecue on Saturday and fed the scraps to a cute little fox that came to visit that night.
Overall, this weekend was just really good for the soul and we WILL be back. We hate to share our secret spots but felt this place was too good not to share. So, if you appreciate unique charm and quality time out in nature, I highly recommend Eden Paradise Retreat for a Spring-Fall getaway in the mountains.

When we first arrived the homeowner greeted us. He was very friendly and nice. We were greeted with pie that was delicious! Really quaint house. It was nice and it has the most amazing view. There is also great record collection to listen to. I highly recommend this place! It is great and waking up to the mountains made my trip!
