I am a school teacher. I decided to purchase a rental house as an adventure and to have a place for family and friends to stay when they visit. I am very proud of the property. It is a renovation and I feel like I have contributed in a small way to revitalizing a little piece of Darien. It is our Darien treasure.
Kelly McClellan purchased this cottage in 2009
We liked the location because there are several events in Darien each year that take place in the Downtown area and it is close to the home that we live in.
Darien Fall Festival, held the first weekend in November showcases the wonderful artisans, shops, and restaurants that are signature to downtown Darien. In addition, the 46th Annual Blessing of the Fleet will be held April 2017 on the Waterfront in Darien. This festival is attended by over 30,000 people and features the Blessing of the Shrimp Boat Fleet along with food and craft vendors, McIntosh County Art Assoc. Art in the Park, and the list goes on. This is a wonderful town with so many things to do no matter what your interest. The history of this town and its people, the local seafood, and central location to other area attractions and day trips are all the reasons you need to visit our cottage. So, send me an inquiry and let's get your reservations experience Darien.
The pictures were somewhat deceptive because the house was larger than expected and we loved it! It was charming and in the right location to be within walking distances to the local shops and restaurants. Plenty of space for a large group of friends.
We have stayed here before and love returning. All the comforts and amenities of home, thoughtfully provided. I think all you need to pack are your clothes and toothbrush and toothpaste. This is in a great location and such a short distance to St. Simons and Jeckyll Island which we visited. We love the deck and kitchen and the three bedrooms. The owners are so helpful. Don't even think about a hotel exiting from I-95. There is a lovely little wine bar in Darien which is remarkably good, and B& J's restaurant is fun for Southern fare and Skippers is a good restaurant on the water for great seafood, all within steps of the cottage.
I've only done one other VRBO, but this is no contest, because of the hospitality, friendliness, and flexibility of the owners.
Kelly's beautiful cottage is a wonderful restoration in downtown Darien, close to the waterfront, and within a quick bike ride of everything. The house is in excellent condition with a huge backyard, a big deck and a really nice Weber grill to use. We were in town working on a film being shot down the street, and found everything about this great, pet-friendly cottage extremely convenient. Comfortable furnishings and a really nice kitchen made our stay very comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
This house is great! Very well maintained. The owners are absolutely wonderful we cannot thank you enough for your hospitality we were so disappointed that our plans had to change due to hurricane Arthur but we found this home and were so impressed we will be back. Beds are very comfortable. The house sets in a quiet neighborhood but is close to so many sites. The owner went out of her way to make our stay great.
We recently purchased land in Darien and wanted to get to know the area a little better. This property was as advertised. Located in a residential area, it was clean, comfortable, peaceful and as my wife described it, "quaint". Located very close to Vernon square (which is actually a circle), it was close to restaurants and the outlet mall at I-95. There was only the 2 of us, but there were 2 additional bedrooms for families with guests or children. The only thing that kind of caught me off guard was no driveway. I was hesitant to park in the yard at first, but noticed other residents parking in their yard. It would have been a good place for me to write, but we were only staying a couple of nights. But I did leave a copy of my first crime novel, Code of Misconduct, behind for future guests to read if they are so inclined. In summary, we would recommend this property.
Historic Fort King George, Darien Waterfront Park, Smallest Church in America, Geocaching, Birding, Lighthouse Tours, Trolley Tours,Fort Fredrica, Annual Blessing of the Fleet (April 2015), Red, White and Blues on the Bluff (July 2015), Darien Fall Fest (Nov. 2014), Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade (March 2015), Ashantilly Historic Home, kayaking, bicycling and so much more to do!
