Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 1 Bath . 3+ Acres In A Great Lake Bomoseen Location Near Everything

Lots of Vermont charm in this home! The bedrooms were originally horse stalls and kids just love that magic! Fully stocked kitchen, Franklin stove as well as central heat & a/c.. Large basement contains a ping-pong table + washer and dryer & small fridge. Outdoors, a very large area of mowed grass creates room for lawn games like badminton & even sledding in the winter! Crystal Beach is up the road and the lake marina is great for renting a boat or there is a site for launching your own. Indoors there is a game closet for rainy days.

NOTE:This home is NOT located on the Lake but is nearby :)

About Alison

We bought the home as a weekend retreat.. Our family enjoyed Winter weekends skiing Killington & Pico and Summer at the beach, fishing on the lake, playing badminton and entertaining family friends who came to visit.

Alison purchased this house in 1971

Why Alison chose Castleton

It is a one-of-a-kind property and we fell in love with the idea of a horse barn being converted to a residence! It struck us as so reflective of historic Vermont. The property size of 3+ acres also appealed to us as a 'playground' for our boys. We played baseball & badminton in the Summer and went sledding in the Winter and it was a great place to invite friends to visit.

What makes this house unique

Just about everything you need for a vacation is there and you have a choice of so many things to do, either on site or sight-seeing around Vermont. It is also such a comfortable place to 'hang out'. There is a fireplace for cool days, plenty of room to play in the basement or outdoors + there is always Wi-Fi and TV.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our 3-day stay at 'The Barn'. What a wonderful spot in the Vermont woods! The cabin/cottage is adorable from the outside with the beautiful green lot, surrounded by forest. The way the Barn was so meticulously preserved is to be commended, in making it cozy. Comfortable, eclectic place to spend some valuable time. God Bless the owners for sharing this magical place.

Beautiful Property and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This property is one of my personal favorites I have rented so far. The property looks a little rough on the outside when you first arrive, but all of the charm is contained within. The whole house is very open, with plenty of room for a full family or two. The rustic feel might not be for everyone, but our group loved the sliding doors and exposed columns. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed and the ping pong table was used a great deal. Day trips to both Killington and Okemo were quick and easy. Will definitely recommend to friends in the future.

Amazing Home

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable! The old stall doors throughout the house add so much character. Lots of very comfortable, top of the line furniture. Kitchen if fully stocked and we prepared amazingly delicious meals. We slept very well and I felt very comfortable and at home in this rental. Our family especially loved playing ping pong and Rummikub. The game selection is top notch. There was lots of snow and the weather was a quite cold 4 degrees yet we were very comfortable. There's plenty of parking as our adult children came to celebrate Christmas (in February). Plenty of hot water for showers, laundry and dishwasher. I would highly recommend this home for a getaway. Can't wait to come in the summer! Thank you Alison for sharing your home with us!

Perfectly Charming

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the barn. Looks are deceiving from the outside with all its charm inside. My boys loved the ping pong table downstairs and we enjoyed sitting in front of the fire during the snow storm.

We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing atmosphere. We left our little snowman out front to show how much fun we had.

I would definitely come back to this lovely home.

Thank you for our memories.

Lovely VT Wintertime Experience

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the 'Barn.' Much larger than we expected from viewing the photos, but it is a barn after all! All conveniences in an interesting space that remains true to its origin. Very quiet and peaceful, which is what we wanted. Well-appointed kitchen with a nice amount of supplies. Comfortable beds and comfortable furniture throughout. Loved having the ping pong table! Boiler a little loud in downstairs bedrooms, so the heavy sleepers stayed downstairs, lighter sleepers upstairs. Appreciated wifi and cable even though used limitedly. Easy access to everything. Will consider a return visit for sure!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the horse house this October was wonderful! What a peaceful setting and a well-kept, well-appointed home. We had everything we needed within the house to make our stay comfortable. The beautiful countryside and foliage was outstanding. The house is centrally located in a gorgeous part of Vermont to see and experience a lot. Burlington was just an hour or so away so we went on a boat cruise of Lake Champlain on the Ethan Allen III, with a yummy buffet right on board, too. We shopped at some quaint stores in Middlebury and visited the Hubbardton Battlefield (only Revolutionary War battle in Vermont), the maple museum, and the marble museum. Just drove around and enjoyed seeing Lake Bomoseen and the stunning scenery from Pond Hill Ranch in Castleton. Would like to bring kayaks next time. Yes, it would be great to go again , there is so much to see and do and just savor the peacefulness. My only comment as a booklover would be more intimate lighting and a cozy nook to cuddle down and read books and plan the next day's adventures.

Great setting for Fall 'leaf-peeping'. The house is set on 3+ acres within walking distance to Lake Bomoseen. Drive North or South Route 30 for great views. Mountain bike @ Killington, outlet shop in Manchester (45 min.), antique shop, visit Fort Ticonderoga or Middlebury(28 mi.), Shelburne Museum etc.Horse-back riding @ Pond Hill Ranch in Castleton. Winter you can ski locally or go north to Sugarbush or Stowe, ice-fish & skate on the Lake. At the house there are indoor & outdoor games and lots of land to play on. Fair Haven is a short drive for stores and supermarket but there are small grocery stores just a short distance from the house too.
