We live in Sherman Oaks, CA. X is a potter (ceramics) and Nancy is a banker. We love Kona and bought this unit from Nancy's mother, who lived at the Casa de Emdeko for 30 years. Some of X's pottery is displayed in the unit.
Nancy Rogers purchased this condo in 2004
We purchased the condo after many wonderful visits to the Casa, where we always met wonderful people.
Our unit has a beautiful view and privacy because it is on the 2nd floor. In our opinion there is nowhere as relaxing and rejuvenating as Kona and you will never run out of things to see on the Big Island.
We spent a lovely 2 weeks at Casa de Emdeko. We were warmly welcomed by many of the other residents, most of whom apparently return year after year. We spent a very enjoyable Thanksgiving pot luck dinner at the complex and found everyone very welcoming. It was extremely quiet during the daytime, and we often wondered where everyone had gone, but they all appeared at sunset, and that's when the party began!
The grounds were very well maintained and the pools, both fresh and salt water, were most enjoyable. There were some renovations to one of the suites going on while we were there which were quite noisy, and the water was turned off twice, but not for very long periods.
The unit is in very good repair, and has most of the necessities for a relaxing visit. We particularly enjoyed the lanai and had almost all of our meals there. It was lovely to have the pull-down blinds, as the morning sun was quite hot. We could have used a few more dishes, and a salad spinner, and we did buy and leave some wine glasses, but otherwise, everything was more than adequate, and all of the best quality. There were lots of linens and some very nice swim towels. We did have a little issue with the garbage disposal, but with one phone call the problem was quickly and efficiently resolved.
It was our first visit to the Big Island of Hawaii, and we enjoyed our very interesting (but long) day at the volcano and the many other adventures to various other parts of the island. We now understand why it is called the "Big Island"! and will likely pay a return visit some day. Thank you, N., for your hospitality. :)
I just stayed here for 17 days. The condo was nicely furnished, very clean, and quiet. The bed was new and very comfortable. The lanai has nice views of the ocean. The location of the condo is perfect. Just a few minutes drive to downtown Kona or a 30 minute walk. There are several beaches within a few minutes drive. The best snorkeling beach is just a 5 min drive. I found the complex to be extremely well maintained. The landscaping was beautiful and all the common areas were kept impeccably clean. I loved the salt water infinity pool.
The owners were very nice and extremely helpful during my stay. I am a frequent visitor to Hawaii and I have been to Kona a dozen or so times but this was the nicest overall place I have stayed. I can't wait to go back to Casa de Emdeko and stay in this condo again.
