Nestled among some of the oldest Ponderosa Pine trees, and with magnificent views of the red cliffs of the Animas Valley, our cottage is the perfect get-away destination for those who seek to discover Durango, Colorado and the Four Corners region.
The Cottage is newly remodeled, with a new 4 burner stove and full size refigerator, fully furnished, clean, contemporary and fully stocked with everything you need for your home away from home. WIFI-high speed internet , Dish with HBO, and an iPod speaker port keep you entertained and connected. The Cottage sleeps 3: a new queen sized, firm bed features 500 count sheets; the black love seat folds out to form a comfortable twin. Plush linens, additional sheets and comforters are provided. The bedroom has pocket doors for added privacy. It is 500 sq ft., and sits at about 6850 ft above sea level.
CLEANING: Each guest can expect clean sheets and towels, dusted furniture, a clean and disinfected shower, sink, toilet, kitchen ( counters, sink, stove, frig) disinfected light switches, door knobs and remotes. The stained concrete floor will be swept and mopped (the stained concrete has some discoloration from its installation. (We have discovered that some guests think it might be dirty - we assure you it is clean!) If you find anything is not to your liking, please contact Candace! We strive for 5 star reviews!!
A seasonal stream runs next to the Cottage along side wild raspberry bushes, spring bulbs and wildflowers. The Cottage sits on 1/2 acre behind your host's main house. It has its own private drive, carport and 2 parking spaces. Te property has 3 apricot trees, a cherry and an apple tree. A nature/bike trail begins at the end of the drive, heads up to Hidden Valley. Our property backs up to the San Juan National Forest and wildlife is abundant. Elk, deer, wild turkeys, black bear, hummingbirds, chipmunks, squirrel, many native birds, Golden Eagles have been seen on and around the Cottage. Bear do come onto the property when food sources become scarce at higher elevations, therefore it is imperative that summer guests do not leave food in their cars nor outside on the property. Bears love BBQ grills, therefore we do not provide one and enjoy our steaks at one of the many fine restaurants Durango has to offer! Bring your camera! If you are lucky enough to see a bear, you can take magnificent photos safely from inside the Cottage as they make their way across the property. It is an unforgettable experience! Black Bear (No Grizzly Bears!) are mostly herbivores, usually more frightened of people, and will pass on through quickly. Being cautious allows us to live in bear country without incident.
We are located just off US 550 which is known as the Million Dollar Highway. You can take it north to Silverton and visit a working gold mine or south to Farmington if you crave big city life. Durango has 9 movie theaters, a wonderful Rec Center, live theater and show, festivals and of course, the train! No visit to Durango is complete without taking a ride on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad!
The drive back to the Cottage is single lane and paved. The turn around radius is small and large trucks or duelies have more trouble navigating than regular sized pick-ups, cars and SUVs.

Why Candace Richerson chose Trimble
As a rock hound and amateur geologist, the first time I drove up US 550 and saw the glacier cut valley on the north side of Durango, with its towering red and white cliffs, my heart jumped! I looked at houses up and down this valley until I found the perfect place for me. To be able to share this piece of Paradise with visitors is a humbling experience.

Quiet and Serene
My husband and I were looking for a small quiet cottage to spend a week in Durango to get out of the Texas heat and this was it! We also needed a pet friendly place so could bring our doxie companion. So appreciated when owners are pet friendly! We loved the location. Just far enough out to feel country but close to town. Thank you, Candace, for having this very special place!
Cozy and very nice
Just what you need and nothing you don't.
Nice little cottage decorated well. The sunrise every morning over the mountain was beautiful. Enjoyed listening to the train whistles each day. Convient to Durango. We enjoyed our stay. God bless.
Nice and quiet
Enjoyed our stay very much. Hope to stay there again soon!
Relaxing days near Durango
We loved the Ponderosa Cottage north of Durango, on the edge of the San Juan National Forest. The cabin was perfect for the two of us to have a few days of relaxation, with a beautiful view of the red cliffs. Cabin was clean and comfy, nicely decorated, with everything we needed. Our host was friendly, helpful and informative. We just wish we could have stayed longer!
Quiet house in a great location
Nice small home is located near Trimble Crossing which is ideal if you want to spend time at Trimble Hot Springs. The hot springs are walking distance. It's a little far out of town if you want to be in the heart of the activity but it's in a quiet neighborhood which is what I was looking for. Lovely view for the sun setting on the mountains. House is fine for a couple. Would be tight with any more. Bed was OK. Kitchen equipped well enough to make basic food. Relatively clean but lots of dust bunnies that need to be cleaned up. Would recommend this property.
Year-round opportunities for adventure are just outside our door: hiking/bike trails on property, Nordic adventures just 20 minutes away at the Durango Mountain Resort (Ski Purgatory); Trimble Hot Springs Spa is within walking distance; one of Durango's most beautiful golf courses, Dalton Ranch, is within a mile; Historic Downtown Durango and the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is 10 minutes away. Durango's nightlife is legendary with many local breweries and gourmet restaurants. Floating down the Animas river on a hot summer day is truly a bucket list experience. Just a couple of miles north is James Ranch, a sustainable working ranch with the best burgers and organic produce in the area. History lovers will find the ancient dwellings of Mesa Verde captivating. Movie buffs can stand where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid jumped off a cliff or see the cash register where Clark Griswold stole money in National Lampoon's Family Vacation. Make sure your camera is charged or you have plenty of film as our home in the mountains is also home to deer, elk, bear, wild turkeys, an assortment of chipmunks and hummingbirds. Rock hunters, there are thousands of closed mines with traillings waiting for you to sift through them! Geology hammer and loop available upon request. PJ's Gourmet Grocery and a liquor store are located within a mile.
