What makes this cottage unique

Our property is very unique. Not many people get to stay in a real windmill! Our windmill is so quintessential Cape Cod that its place on the cover of our Harbor Coves Association membership book makes perfect sense. Not only is the house itself noteworthy as a windmill, but the location is exceptional. Standing on the patio, or looking out the big bay windows in the living room, we fell in love with our magical spot on Crows Pond. Its small space is more than made up for by beautiful details like custom fit wood cabinets, white washed exposed mill gears upstairs, and sea glass as part of the bathroom tiling.

It is worth waking yourself up extra early just to see a sunrise there! Or watch a full moon rise over the bay from the patio as you grill your dinner.

During the day, walk a few steps down to enjoy the beautiful bay, with all it has to offer. You can launch your sailboat, kayak or paddle board and explore all the little islands just around the corner from us, or simply enjoy swimming in front of the house or strolling the beach. Of course there are plenty of other activities just a short drive away, heading into the downtown area or to famous Lighthouse Beach to look out at the ocean.

Beautiful cozy, charming cottage on the water

  • 5 of 5

I'm fortunate to have spent the last few days in this incredible cottage. Unfortunately the weather was not ideal but I can't think of a better place to spend a rainy, windy couple of days than this charming windmill. It was clean, well stocked and very welcoming with a gorgeous view of the bay and a private beach. Sleeping up in the windmill loft was the icing on the cake. We will definitely be booking this again.

Cool Cottage, Magical Location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our 2 week stay at the windmill. It is wonderfully charming and very functionally laid out – surprisingly easy for 2 people to work in the kitchen at one time. We knew it would be tight when we booked and indeed it felt a little crowded when our family of 4 (plus splayed-out-golden-retriever) were all there due to the lack of separate areas and the kids (12 and 15 yo) not closing up the sleeper couch; however, there was room for me to set up a computer with 2 monitors on a separate desk in the dining room so it is not too small. Pictures are accurate.

Watching the weather and water change out the living room window are the best! We are not really beach people (we were on the Cape for another reason) but the private section of beach and smoother waters of the inlet were excellent the few times we kayaked. We enjoyed the patio. Although the boats in the marina are close, it was quiet. Very nice neighborhood of expensive homes - no sidewalks but low traffic.

Host was easy to communicate with and allowed us to drop things off early which was a big help as we had an overfull car.

Only downside was the size of the upstairs bed; about 52 inches by 72 inches. It was advertised as a queen, but we measured with a measuring tape and it is a custom size and is slightly *smaller than a double*. This was an issue as we slept poorly because we didn’t fit. Host stated there had been some confusion about the size, but there is no need to be confused as a measuring tape will tell you the size. Aside from the size, I slept in both beds as it turned out and they were both very comfortable. Sofa bed topper inflates – best sofa bed I’ve ever slept in.

I love the charm and peace of the windmill and would stay again if I could have the bed to myself.

Location, location

The windmill is a fantastic setting for a getaway, and served us very well. All logistics were simple and easy, photos of the cottage give an accurate impression of the property, and the space worked very well for us. (Note that the ladder to upstairs has widely spaced steps, and the bed is a double). We enjoyed beautiful views, breezes, walking and biking. Boating (or swimming!) from the beach would be great - we wished our kayaks were with us! We were early season, and while superficially fine, it felt as if the spring cleaning might have been missed this year.

Unique property in stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week in this little windmill - loved every minute. Even when the weather wasn't great (we were hit by the tail end of hurricane Hermine) it was lovely to sit and look out the window at the view over Crow's pond. The property is really unusual and rustic which we loved but if you like ultra modern and high tech this may not be for you! You also need to be pretty fit to get up and down the ladder stairs to the bedroom! It was perfect for the 2 of us but would possibly be quite cramped for more than 2 adults. It was wonderful to have our own stretch of private beach - felt very privileged. Loved the area and hope to come back someday. Thank you so much Tsedale for allowing us to stay in your property!

septic problem during our vacation

  • 3 of 5

Lovely location, fun details, and perfect for small children. See my 2015 review for more positive comments.

However, during our second weeklong stay, the septic system failed and all the yucky stuff backflowed up through the shower and toilet and onto the bathroom floor. After some

back and forth text messaging, the owner sent a handyman and plumber who, thankfully, fixed everything within 12 hours. The men who fixed the problem and the woman who cleaned the bathroom were all very nice and compassionate.

For our inconvenience, the owner kindly offered us two free nights in the fall but, when asked to pay the cleaning fee on those nights, we decided not to return.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that our sewer malfunctioned during your vacation, for the first time in 20 years! We have since taken measures needed to update and improve on the system. We're so glad that you saw how wonderful our caretaker and maintenance crew are. They are always there to help in a pinch, no matter how big or small. We offered you three free days, actually. Sorry that you won't want to use them, but we do understand. Lastly, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experience!

Exactly as expected

A Windmill. What ? This place was unbelievable, exactly as the pictures depicted. There were no surprises. The 'private' beach was spectacular. The patio was spacious and relaxing. All main amenities were very close, within minutes. Our stay was filled with quiet and peace. Very little traffic in the area. The Fish market down the road is a must see. I would highly recommend the Windmill to any couple looking for serenity.

Chatham is a picturesque town in a unique area of Cape Cod, right in the 'elbow,' if you see the Cape as a bent arm.

Renowned for its breathtaking beaches both ocean and bay, the town also offers plenty of art, history, and culture and a vibrant main street.

You can choose from miles of pristine white sand ocean beaches, sparkling bays or small ponds. Sail, kayak, windsurf, kitesurf, surf or motorboat. You can bike or walk the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which runs 25 miles from the beginning of the Cape to the very tip in Provincetown. There are ferries to take you to the famous Outer Bar, whale watching, or out to the surrounding islands. Main street offers up great places to eat and shop, with a nice and walkable downtown.
