Your family will have a wonderful vacation at the beach on the Isle of Palms staying in 309 Charleston Blvd. It does not get much better than a week at the beach in this classic beach house that has a few surprises.

Ideally located close to a beach access path, 309 Charleston is just a short walk to the ocean. The main home was built in the 1952. The Island was much different in the 1950’s than it is today. World War II veterans were flocking to the Island as an affordable beach front community and a short drive to Charleston Navy Base. The Drifters and Tams could be heard at the Surf Deck, located on the Front Beach Isle of Palms just a short bike ride from 309 Charleston. But one thing that remains special today as it did then is the fact family’s love to vacation on the Island and 309 Charleston is the perfect place stay.

One of the surprises featured at 309 Charleston is that it is actually two different homes. The main home features four bedrooms and three full baths. Original from the 1950’s, heart of pine floors paneling and oak hardwood floors highlight the upper floor of this unique home. Like most homes of the era, the screen porch is like a second living room. Dining as well as comfortable seating will provide the perfect location for your family together. The kitchen has been completely renovated, but still features the classic heart of pine paneling. A living room, dining room and two bedrooms are also featured on the upper floor. The lower level of the main home features another living area as well as two bedrooms and full bath.

As you leave the main home you will find an elevated pool deck that features a private pool. Perfect for entertaining your family or just catching some sun, the pool deck is another surprise that awaits your family at 309 Charleston.

A separate guest house is the final surprise feature of 309 Charleston that is very special and unique on the Island. The guest house is a single large room, but features a modern kitchen, queen bed, seating area, full bathroom and perfect views of the pool deck.

309 Charleston brings together many aspects of what life is all about on the Isle of Palms. The classic design reminds you of vacations when you were young with heart of pine paneling and oak floors that were cut right here on the Island. The pool, and media room in the main home are perfect recreational areas for your children. Finally the guest house provides the perfect opportunity to vacation with other family members yet have the privacy offered by having two separate accommodations.

Renovations in 2013 include painting, creation of the media room, improvements the HVAC systems, and many furnishings.

A true South Carolinian, Marcia is from Greenville SC and has been in the Charleston area for over 25 years! She began hospitality right out of college as the Front Desk night manager at the Waccamaw House in Litchfield, SC. She and her late husband, John, ran Sewee Coastal Methodist Retreat Center in Awendaw, on the Intercoastal waterway while raising their four children. Marcia joined the Beachside Team 2012.

1. Enjoys the peace and moss draped serenity of the walking trails in Palmetto Islands County Park. Palmetto Islands County Park is located in Mt. Pleasant and also offers the areas only water park in addition to miles of walking trails. 843-406-6950.

2. Walking the beach from Breaches’ Inlet to the opposite end of Sullivan’s Island at Charleston Harbor.

3. Sunset cruise on the Palmetto Breeze. The Palmetto Breeze is the ultimate sailing catamaran docked in Shem Creek. They offer dolphin sails, tours of the historic Charleston Harbor and sunset sails. 843-886-8133.

4. Kayaking the salt marshes and back creeks of the Intercoastal waterway . Coastal Expeditions offers tours from Isle of Palms Marina and Shem Creek 843-886-9590.

5. Favorite is BBQ shrimp at Acme Lowcountry Grill! Located on the Isle of Palms, Acme Lowcountry Grill is one of Beachside’s favorite recommendations. 843-886-3474.

A great vacation house for extended families.

A great vacation house for extended families. Pool is a good size for young children to enjoy. Close to the beach with a screened-in porch and patio. Only drawback is the small living room but furniture is comfortable.

Family Reunion -- Fantastic Week!

Our extended family of 11 had a wonderful week at 309 Charleston. The house and guest house accommodated our group perfectly. The kitchen had everything we needed. An added plus were the drink frigs in the kitchen and the lower level. Perfect to keep all of our beverages cool. The teens enjoyed the big screen downstairs. Quick and easy access to the beach which was not crowded.

Our trip was centered around a family reunion. The pool, deck, back patio, and front porch were spacious enough to allow us to host a low country boil for 37 family members that were in IOP for the reunion.

We brought our Wheaten Terrier with us and the fenced in yard made it convenient to let her out.

The 6:00 pm Eco-Tour which left from the IOP marina was a big hit especially with the kiddos under age 10.

Favorite restaurants were Acme and Poes. Didn't get out to eat much as different family members hosted dinners at their houses.

My only suggestions would be to add ceiling fans to the screened front porch (there are two floor fans) and the mattress in the lower level bedroom needs to be replaced.

Charming and Comfortable

This was the perfect house for our vacation. 50 steps from the front door to the beach access. She might not be the newest property, but as soon as you step through the front door, there is an warm welcoming feeling that will charm you instantly. The front screened in porch was perfect for that warm stormy night to watch the clouds roll out to sea. The guest house is perfect for the people in your group who may need that extra private space. Every thing about this house will leave you wanting to come back to the island again and again. Thanks for everything, we had an amazing time!

We had a great family reunion in this home. It was very well-maintained, and the landscaping by the pool is lovely. The guest house was wonderful, and it's a very short walk to the beach.
